Correction: Patterson's -- and Maxine Paeltro's -- latest is THE SWIMSUIT. Professional reviews sounded good on Amazon, but synopsis of readers gave it a mere couple of stars. Mary Kay

Thanks for bumping us up with a nice greeting, SHARON! Happy Fourth to everyone. Aren't we lucky to be Americans?! I thoroughly enjoyed TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN, Curtis Roosevelt. I didn't want the book to end. I enjoyed remembering that era. I'm deciding whether to start Lee Child's THE HARD WAY or to wait until my friend drops off one of Patterson's latest -- THE SWIMMER? Not sure of the title. Sunny and warm here at The Jersey Shore.

Last night I finished BLUE SCREEN by Robert B. Parker. I picked up an older Tess Gerritson one, LIFE SUPPORT. I read a few pages while waiting for lunch to finish cooking. It has been so cool here. I can't wait for warmer temps.

I am about to begin Knit Two, the sequel to Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs. Dakota is a freshman at NYU and runs the yarn shop with the help of members of the knitting club.

Another day of rain. Hoping the weather clears so everyone can enjoy a beautiful Fourth of July.

Has anyone read Janet Evanovich’s FINGER LICKIN FIFTHTEEN? I just started it and I was totally surprised by the language. I’ve read all her books and I don’t remember this much or type of language. Really, I’m not a prude. The story, as always, is very funny. Just wondering what others thought.

EMR Thanks for your recommendations of Lynn Austin titles. I'd like to recommend her books CANDLE IN THE DARKNESS which is followed by FIRE BY NIGHT (the 2nd title parallels the characters in the first one) Both are take place during the time of the Civil War and I enjoyed them very much. I then read DAUGHTERS OF THE LOOM by Tracie Peterson an Judith Miller, which is the same style of book, but about women's role in the Industrial Revolution. These are easy reading, and in the same "personal" style of Beverly Lewis (IMHO).

Sharon, there are a couple by Lynn Austin that I really enjoyed -- All She Ever Wanted, and also A Woman's Place (not quite sure on that title -- it's about women working in defense plants during WW2).

ZOE -- I have not read anything by Lynn Austin, but I do have her Civil War trilogy on my TBR list, so hope to get there eventually. Thanks for the recommendation.

Zoe, I haven't started Under the Banner of Heaven yet. I will probably get into it this weekend. I have read Escape by Carolyn Jessop and was riveted by it. Hard to believe that women are treated like this, in this century, in the United States of America.

Just got The Shack from a co-worker so I need to get that one read too, as another co-worker wants it after I finish with it! So many books ... so little time!

Wow what exceptionally good reading & recommendations this week! Since it was the wettest June on record in our part of the country, it leaves a lot of "indoor" time. That's good for reading, although not good for most other summer activities!

I agree with so many of your opinions. AvidCook: I too really enjoyed LOVING FRANK and Joy Fielding books (both have unexpected endings!) but agree with Margaret and MaryKay that STILL LIFE was definitely not Joy Fielding's best book.

Troublecat: How is Janet Evanovich's "15" book? My friend said that she nearly fell off the couch laughing so hard and that the character Lula was especially good in this book!

EMR: I have enjoyed Jon Krakauer's books very much, but thought that UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN was not his norm. I thnk that it goes along with ESCAPE by ---- Jessop. and believe that it is important to remember that these are fundalmentalist extreme groups What do you think of the book?

Sharon: I too have enjoyed many of Beverly Lewis books. Have you read any by the author Lynn Austin. Although they are not about the Amish, they have (IMHO) that same "feeling".

I'm reading THE 13TH TALE by Diane Setterfield and enjoying it very much. It's very imaginative and I love the style and description of writing.

Mary Kay, Normally I'd be on the waiting list at the library for Fingerlickin Fifteen, however I joined a book club recently after my puppy totally destroyed a library book. I ordered the book he destroyed as part of joining the club and the library accepted it. Much cheaper than me having to pay full price for the book. I only had to buy 3 more books and that is done so now I'll quit the book club. AND... now I make sure my library books are tucked away in my bedside table!

I just finished "The 8th Confession" by James Patterson. I had been on a long waiting list for it. So I read it this weekend to get it back to the Library for the next in line. I have read the entire series. Wonder if he will come up with a 9th or tenth.

Before that I finished a recent Jodi Piccoult book about a baby born with osteogenesis imperfecta. It is along the lines of My Sister's Keeper, which I have not read. I have been on a waiting l ist for it. Since it is being made into a movie a lot are now checking it out. I have become a very frugal reader, and I buy a lot of my books at estate and garage sales or check out the library. I recently read The Last Lecture which I bought because I got a gift certificate. I am getting very savings conscious in my older yrs. LOL

Ready to start Nicholis Sparks" True Believer. I do not always read books when they first come out due to my cheap habits! But they are just as good when some of the smoke disappears, you know. BTW, I got the Sparks' book on Sat. at a Garage sale for 50 cents.

Hi all! It is hot and sunny in Idaho!

I've been reading light romances for the last couple of weeks- they fit in my purse to have for appointments, etc and they are quick!

A Heart for the Dropped Stitches by Janet Tronstad. Sadly, this one is #3 in a series and was just plain dull. I didn't finish reading this one.

Everything but a Groom by Holly Jacobs. Fun story line of a grandmother who thinks she has cursed her family so that no one can enjoy a beautiful wedding.

Winning the Single Mom's Heart by Linda Goodnight. #4 in the Wedding Planner series- fun, quick read.

Married to the Mob by Ginny Aiken Entertaining, and I loved the visits to theme parks in Orlando.

His Bundle of Love by Patricia Davids Moving story with info about preemies.

I'm in my summer mood apparently- I'll get back to more "meaty" reading as we head in to fall. I'm enjoying what you are reading though!
