Today is World Hello Day to promote world peace. The theme of this day is "Greet ten people for peace". It is really easy to participate in World Hello Day. Simply, say hello to the people today. And, voice your concern for world peace.

World Hello Day was created during the 1973 conflict between Egypt and Israel. The creators of this day, Brian McCormack and Michael McCormack, believe your efforts can help to promote global peace. They believe it starts with communications, hence the greeting to ten people.

So, let's all make a difference. Get out on the streets today, and say "Hello" to at least ten people.

Good Morning All!!

LOL “New Moon Rising” or something about the new moon is opening tonight at midnight. It is suppose to be the follow up to “Twilight”. Did any of you go see it? And if you did could somebody please tell me what it is?? Do they put things like that on the news just to make me feel old??

I had a mess this morning Bob knocked a jar of coins I had on the dresser off and broke it. So I had a mess to clean up but at least I did not cut myself cleaning it up.

My finger is down to a bandaid now mostly to keep me from having to look at it. Bob brought home several big rolls of gauze the other night. They were suppose to burn it since it was out of date. It was not sterile any way so why is a roll of gauze out of date? And you wonder why hospital bills are so high!

Thought for the Day-Take note today of all the opportunities you have to offer a helping hand to another person. You can notice too many times a friend, or even a stranger reaches out to us in a helpful way. The opportunities to contribute to life's flow are unending. BRR!! It is cold down here. In the low 40’s which is cold for us. I got my flu shot today. Don’t make me feel bad but my arm is a little sore from that. I thought about not getting one but Bob brings home everything that is going around from the visitors at the center and I am the one that gets sick. So now I have a boo-boo on my right arm and a boo-boo on my left finger. I am in bad shape! LOL Glad I am not a baseball pitcher.

Good Morning!!

Yikes DDinlaw has started selling Tupperware!! She is about to drive me nuts to buy something. I like the stuff but have more now than everybody in the neighborhood would ever use!!! I even have three big black garbage bags full in the storage room that I have no room for. Not the mention the two cabinets full I have. Any suggestions on how to tell her to back off without causing friction? When she was selling scrapbook stuff I got out of it by not scrapbooking and when she sold baskets I bought a few but how many decorative baskets do you need? Kelly just laughs and says she will get tired of that soon. I sure hope so!!

Today is French Bread Day! New Orleans French bread is unique. You won't see anything like it anywhere else in the world. Certainly not in France. There the loaves may look much the same in shape, size, and color, but the texture is much denser and the flavor quite different.

Today is Button Day. A fun day to collect, use, and just enjoy buttons. Button come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, colors and designs. There is an amazingly endless variety of buttons for your collection.

But, wait a minute.... is that the meaning of this day!? Maybe, the purpose of this day is to wear buttons. You know, those diverse buttons that send a message for political purposes. Or, ones that have funny sayings. Or, a button with a smiley face to cheer everyone up.

Today is National Philanthropy Day. Over the course of history, Philanthropists have made great contributions to those in need, and to worthy causes.

According to the official National Philanthropy Day website, this day is set aside to "recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives, our communities and our world."

Great philanthropist are known in history for their many and frequent monetary contributions, big and small. Many of them do so in a quite way, not looking for recognition.

While we commonly view Philanthropy as a monetary contribution, the voluntary efforts at fund raising is also within the definition of philanthropy. So, if you have little extra money to contribute, you can turn your labor effort into charitable cash contributions by participating in fundraisers, making you a Philanthropist!

Maybe this should be a day to honor Tippy as she seems to always be doing for others!!

Good Morning!!

Careful it is Friday the 13^th!!

LOL!! We made a trip to Atmore again today to “save” money on chicken food. We really didn’t save a penny but it was a beautiful day and a fun trip.

It is a little chilly down here tonight down about 48 but not according to some of you. It is so funny our different perspectives on cold and heat too for that matter.

Thought for the Day-Broccoli is the best reason to buy a steamer insert for a saucepan. It's a gentler way of cooking that gets the job done better than boiling or microwaving, and allows you to catch the vegetable after it stops squeaking but before it turns to mush.

Today is National Broccoli Day. The broccoli crop around here is peaking right now. It and the other cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage are also being picked, fall vegetables for the Thanksgiving table.
Broccoli is a hybrid of cauliflower and a wild cabbage. It was originally a thin-stalked plant with small florets. Over the centuries, new cultivars came along with much bigger heads, made of thousands of small flower buds. The stems became bigger, too, in response to consumer demands for a fleshier plant.
Broccoli inspires either love or hate. Few people are in between on it. Supertasters--about twenty-five percent of the population, they have more taste buds and a more acute sense of taste--can detect flavors in broccoli that most people cannot. They hate broccoli, because that extra taste is not a good one. If you hate broccoli, then, you may well be a supertaster.
For the majority of us who like it, though, it's an essential vegetable. It looks good and tastes good. And it makes a stronger contribution to your health than most other things you eat. I like broccoli steamed then drowned in melted butter. (You can feel the healthy broccoli and the unhealthy butter fighting it out inside you.)

Today is Veteran’s Day honoring all members of the Armed Forces who served this country valiantly, and in a very big way. They served and fought to protect us, to keep our country safe, and to preserve our way of life. Veterans gave their time, and risked their lives for you and me. In some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice.

This holiday originally was called Armistice Day and was first celebrated in 1921. In 1954, President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran's Day in honor of those who served and died from all wars.

On November 11 at 11:11, 1921 the U.S. France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World War I. This began the annual Armistice Day holiday. The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11. In keeping with this tradition, work stops on this day and time each year for a moment of silence.

Good Morning!!

Well it is raining cats and dogs and the storm should hit Mobile with maybe 60MPH winds about midnight. No biggie for down here over the next few hours we might have 3-6 inches of rain. It is all I have heard all day so it must be a slow news day. LOL We even have a curfew from 10-5 in the morning for Baldwin County.

Today is National Scrapple Day. Now there's a terrible food, made by mixing sausage with cornmeal and re-forming it into another sausage. No wonder whoever started this one cannot be found to explain it.

Boy 8-0 sounds good for the Saints. It was a toughie but they did manage to pull it out at the end!! Woo-hoo! Miami here we come!!

Just when we down here on the Gulf Coast thought it was safe to put away hurricane supplies, Ida pops up! They say it will be nothing but rain, which we need, but the thought of a hurricane this late in the season has me worried.

Good Morning!!

Ouch!! Bob got home a little while ago and changed the bandage on my finger like he does twice a day. It had bled just a little today and the bandage stuck so it is hurting. I have orders not to do much with the finger tomorrow. And that is hard!! Plus the bandage is white and does anybody realize how dirty their hand gets everyday. It is almost gray when he changes it.

One down and one to go on the Football games. Bama played wonderfully this afternoon now if the Saints can do as well Sunday!! 8-0 sounds good doesn’t it!!

Good Morning!!

This weekend, Alabama and Saints are both playing big games. So you know where I will be LOL!!

It is getting very close to our bed time as Bob has 2 12-hour days this weekend. I was going to start this earlier but DS called and was having Facebook problems and wanted to know if I was too. I wasn’t but he was with his and was all upset. Then he got all upset when I told him it was only a game!! LOL

Today is Marooned Without a Compass Day. Which direction will you take today?

How is your sense of direction? Do you often find yourself going around in circles? Do you feel hopelessly lost? Do you know where you are? If any of these questions describe your current state of being, then you are in tune to this special day.

A Boy Scout leader sees this special day as no problem at all.He would just navigate the day (and night) by the position of the sun and the stars. He would use his orienteering skills. And, he will check the trees for moss..... moss grows on the shaded, north side of a tree trunk.

Viewed in another way, being marooned without a compass for a day could be a good thing. Our busy life styles seldom leaves time to relax. We can just kick back and enjoy being marooned. Tomorrow, we can head east when the sun rises. In the meantime, I think I see a shady tree.....

Good Morning!

Boy, I sure am thankful I did not have the problems with Mom’s clothes when she was in the NH. But the main reason was the woman that had done Mom and Roy’s clothes for years knew the women that worked in the laundry. She let it be known if anything was missing they would answer to her. So Mom never lost a thing!!

I read on the Treasure Mania board on Facebook that Monday it was changing. Who knows if it is the truth or not but I kinda hope it is. For all my Facebook buddies, please start playing it is a lot of fun and the ones of us that do could use all the digger friends we can get!

Today is National Oatmeal Day. Oatmeal began to be eaten as a hot breakfast porridge in Scotland, and most of the ways we eat oatmeal in this country are similar to the Scottish recipes. There are two kinds of oatmeal, both from the same grain. Steel-cut oatmeal--made by chopping the grains--is preferable, but takes longer to cook. Rolled oatmeal is made by steaming the grains, then squashing them between rollers. Since oats are historically grown in cold areas, that's where you find most oatmeal. The competition from grits as the preferred hot cereal in the South adds to the relative rarity of oatmeal there. Lost cookie recipe

I am looking for a lost cookie recipe. You roll the dough in a log and refrigerate. You also make a log out of coconut and egg whites and refrigerate this. After they are chilled you cut them and put a slice of dough on a cookie sheet and then a slice of the coconut on top. You then put a piece of cherry on top and bake. Can anyone help me find this?

Good Morning!!

I was going to do this while I watched the Saints game but I was too busy yelling and screaming for the Saints to stop the Falcons. They are on the way now one win against the Falcons but we have to play them again on their home turf.

Morning all!

Or rather I hope I am right. This stupid DST has me all messed up. I once heard someone say only a fool or the government would think cutting something off one end and adding it to the other would have an effect on time.

Today is the Christian holiday of All Soul's Day paying respect and remembers the souls of all friends and loved ones who have died and gone to heaven. It is a time to pray for their souls that they may be received into heaven. Upon death, it is believed that souls have not yet been cleansed of sin. Praying for souls of loved ones helps to remove the stain of sin, and allow the souls to enter the pearly gates of heaven. All Souls Day was started in 998.

Often people will pray to their lost loved ones and even ask for special favors.

Did you know? All Souls Day is sometimes called the "Day of the Dead".

Morning all!

It’s late I’m tired and am coming down with a cold. I know it is this stupid wet weather we are having!!

Today is All Saints Day. The Christian holiday of All Saint's Day honors and recognizes all of the saints of the christian church, many of which were martyrs. The church sets this day aside to celebrate over 10,000 recognized saints. Historically, All Saints Day was known as Hallomas.

Did you know? All Saints Day and All Souls Day was originally in May. They were moved to November 1st and 2and to downplay the Pagan holidays of Halloween (All Hallow's Eve) and Dia De Loss Muertos. Religious leaders felt these holidays were too popular at the time to ban outright. But, if moved the christian holidays to this time periods, the pagan holidays would slowly die away.......

It is really too bad the New Orleans Saints don’t play football tomorrow but Monday Night against Atlanta. What would been more fitting that to become 7-0 on All Saint’s Day.

Morning all!

Beverly, it has crossed my mind several times today to borrow your knife for a few minutes!! VBG My finger is about to drive me nuts. It’s not hurting but itching and very uncomfortable. Bob says to leave it alone since it is healing and looking good, but I say it is just another thing to drive me up the wall.

200 grams selfraising flour

100 grams butter

75 grams caster sugar

100 grams mixed dried fruit

1 egg beaten

2 to 4 teaspoons milk

sift flour in bowl, rub in butter add sugar and fruit.

mix to a very stiff batter with beaten egg and milk.

place spoonfuls of mixture in rocky mounds on well buttered baking tray. leave room between

bake at gas no 6 for 15 to 20 minutes coolon wire tray.

makes about 10 cakes
