Walking slowly thru…no *running* today…been doing too much of that!!! I have the night off from Dad’s and I am veggie out!!! We had a whopper of a storm today!! The lightening is horrendous!!! We are back home with AC fixed, thank God!! Our hottest temps this year this week!!! Yikes!

Peg, I'll have to try the frozen mango. It must taste and feel terrific on a hot day. Imagine having a mango tree in your own yard - I just paid $1.89 for a single mango. Geez!

Hope everyone is safe from Dolly, and other assorted weather patterns. We've just got a thunderstorm arriving so I'll turn this computer off and lie low.

Grace - that recipe sounds delicious !!! That's a must try. I agree about the lime. I also like to slice them, freeze in a single layer and then bag. You can grab one and just eat it frozen - really refreshing. I've had a dwarf mango tree for about 6 years and it just produced fruit for the first time last year and it's got babies on it now.

Margaret E, do you have a recipe for Sherry Trifle? If you do and it's not a secret family recipe could you post it? I'm collecting authentic English Trifle recipes. I have one from my mother-in-law, and some of TJ's aunts. They're all very similar but each one has one or two differences according to each taste and inclination. If any of you are planning to get some mangos, please try it with lime juice. Trust me! LOL!

Nancy B, couple of links on how to peel and cut mangos. Both of these make a little hedgehog, then cut it away from the peel. That's the easiest way I found to do it and works like a charm.

I'm home from the doc, who sez the nerves may take another 2 weeks to die, and not to give up. He also gaveme a chit for another pain med. Some make me throw up, so think I'll take the 1st one at nite and see if it helps when I get up in the morning.

I hope Bob will find something he likes better - that nursing home doesn't deserve him and don't appreciate him. He sure wouldn't have problems finding work here. Any chance that nasty nurse at the hospital will leave so he would go back there?

Good afternoon from a cooler Indiana, it's only 73 out there & quite pleasant, the AC hasn't even kicked on.

Happy Birthday to Betty, hope you have the best one yet.

Zora........know how hard works as DD is a nurse also...........she worked for 10 years in a NH, not always pleasant. Works in a plasma donation center now & loves it.

DH picked green beans yesterday, have a big bag in the frig to cook tomorrow, got them all snapped yesterday. Took some in with potatoes, bell pepper, onions & corn, they were both pleased, will have a feast.

Just got our bedroom cleaned, going to the beauty shop this afternoon for a much needed cut/color, will pick up a sandwich on the way home.........don't want to cook.

Ant Lion Larva

Have you ever heard of a "doodlebug"? Well, you're looking at one right up above! It is actually an insect called an antlion. The antlion gets its name because it is a voracious predator of ants and other insects. Actually, it's only the antlion larvae that is a predator. They capture ants and other crawling insects which accidentally fall into their circular pits. These pits are usually 1 1/2 to 2 inches in diameter and about the same depth. The antlion larva, or doodlebug, waits at the bottom for an ant or other insect to slip on the loose sand and fall in. As soon as they do, the antlion has its next meal. In the process of making their pits, antlion larvae create spiral-shaped trails in the sand. These trails are why they get the nickname "doodlebug", because it looks like someone has been doodling in the sand! The pits are usually found in dry places like under shelter of farm buildings. Some species hide under bits of debris or wood and attack passing insects.

A blazing orb shines with a white glare from the washed out blue of the sky. Trickles of salty moisture will soon be running down my face. Folded bandanna lies on the desk near me for whenever I step out the door. I use it as a sweatband as the "stretchy" ones made for this particular use always slide off of my head, doing nothing more than causing irritation/frustration with futile attempts to keep them in place.

I am a few hundred miles from the storms wrath. All we may get from it are clouds, humidity and a big wish for rain.

Good Morning Everyone!

Last night we had a real light show. It was ceiling to ground lightning all night with some really big boomers that shook the house. Neither one of us slept too well. The dog had to be in the basement tie....the only way she will stay calm. We discovered that if we tied her she calmed right down and quit shaking. We had one boomer that was so loud it sent Fraidy scuttleing to the basement, and he spent the night there with the dog. You know its loud to scare a cat!

Going to try to get some laundry done today. The last few days it has been too hot to run the dryer, even at night. Not much going on here, every one in Dolly's path stay safe. They are still not sure if we will get any strorms here from it. Apparently when hurricanes come ashore they hook up and back to the direction from whense they came. Not many hurricanes accounts for our drought they say. What was the Lord thinking? For me to have good tomatos Zora has to get whacked. LOL. I am sure that after all the rain and warm weather I will be canning green beans tomorrow. Good thing they are my favorite vegetable. Guess I will put up some quarts for Green Bean Casserole at Christmas. Well, better get busy if I want to finish my morning work and work on a painting. Love to all

I remember buckwheat pancakes from my childhood, and can almost taste them now. I don't even know what kind of flour that is.

Only going to be 82 today, which I love. My yard guy comes this morning to deweed, which I also love. Wish I could do it myself.

No ants this morning so far. They sure were persistent. Never got the message that I don't have food for them to take their queen.

I like mangoes but never have figured a way to slice them nicely. I see more in Fla. stores than here. Nancy B

Good Morning Everyone!

Happy Birthday to Betty! We surely miss your smiling face, I hope you have a Great Birthday with lots of birthday cake and ice cream.

Our power went out about 10 minutes after I posted last night. We got very little rain but lots of lightning and thunder. About 11:30 they got it repaired so the AC was back on, after a 99° day yesterday that was good news. This morning it is very humid and another hot day in store with thunderstorms possible again this afternoon.

Zora, Hugs for you and Bob as you update that resume. How frustrating to be a good conscientious, very much needed nurse and be dumped on. In the end the patients are the ones who will miss good care because of the ‘big wigs’ who don’t know or care about the patients.

Margaret E, good to see you drop by this morning. I hope you got to enjoy your garden yesterday.

I have been cutting some fabric for a quilt, I can start sewing on it today. It is fun knowing that I will be able to quilt it in a couple of days instead of weeks doing it by hand. This one is in fall colors and maybe I will try to sell this one if it looks good when I get done.

Coffee is ready and whole wheat pancakes mixed and ready to cook when Jim gets up. I may have lunch with my friend today and pick up a few groceries while I am out. I better check the ads to see which store I want to go to.

I am adding armloads of hugs, prayers and well wishes to the baskets this morning as I repeat the group prayer.

Anne! It's so good to see you! We've missed you. Did I tell you I got a new computer a month ago? It's a Toshiba laptop hooked up my regular monitor, keyboard and mouse. That way I have a desktop computer but I can take it with me wherever I go. Hint, hint.

Zora, it's hard to believe what goes on at Bob's work. That's insane! Somebody has to look after the patients no matter what it takes. Must be awfully stressful for Bob and you. Hugs to you both.

Mangos are the best fruits ever, especially cut up, chilled and sprinkled with lime juice. I'm also attaching an heirloom (since 1987 anyway ) recipe for beef with mango. It's quick, easy and tastes wonderful, and my family loves it. I serve it quite often for company, too. Have never met a single person that doesn't like this meal.

Normal 0

BEEF WITH MANGO

8 oz (225 g) Fillet of beef

1 large mango

4 tbsp. oil

1 tbsp. fresh, shredded ginger

1 shallot, finely sliced

Marinade

1 tbsp. white wine

1 tbsp. soy sauce

1 tsp. corn flour

1/4 tsp. sugar

1/4 tsp. fresh ground pepper

Cut beef into thin bite-sized pieces.

Blend together the ingredients for marinade,

add the beef and leave for 20 min.

Peel & slice the mango.

Set wok over high heat, add oil and wait until almost smoking.

Reduce heat to moderate add beef & ginger and stir fry for 1-2 minutes.

Remove beef and ginger with slotted spoon.

Toss mango slices in hot oil for a few seconds,

return beef & ginger to the wok, add shallots.

Stir fry for a further few seconds. Serve immediately.

Well after all the extra work and shifts by himself did Bob get a thank you or a pat on the back or anything special??? No way Jose!!! He got sent home early today with a chewing out for putting in too much overtime in the past two weeks. The spineless b***tard that calls himself head of nursing services got chewed out by the CFO of the hospital for Bob putting in too much overtime the last two weeks. So he chewed out the head nurse and told her to send Bob home right then and there would be no more overtime for anyone at anytime now. The head nurse would give out meds if the floor nurse was sent home. So that means with the lack of staff there now, they are going to be working mostly alone and the head nurse is going to give out a lot of meds because the floor nurse was sent home.

Guess what I do today!! I find Bob’s resume, update it some and he spends the time off seeing what else is out there for an old nurse. What he may do is look into private health insurance and work PRN for now.

Peg-I may need a new doll soon!! LOL
