What a day I have had!! After a night of getting to sleep late due to nausea, I woke up, used the restroom and was bleeding! Very alarming. I got the kids (except for Tommy who was home sick) off to school and called Ray. Since it was still very early, my OB office wasn't open yet so I went to the ER. Long story short - everything now is fine. Ultra sound showed a strong heartbeat for the baby 176 bpm! and after an examination it was confirmed that my cervix is still closed. But it took soooo long to figure this all out! I was in the ER for 5 hours, didn't have to wait to be seen at all, just all the 'in between' time. Then come to find out, I need to have a Rhogam injection since I am A- blood type. I knew this all along since I had to have injections after my other pregnancies, but because it was never brought up, I didn't mention it today. Well then I had to wait even longer while the lab sent down the injection. Meanwhile poor Ray and Tommy were waiting in the waiting room not knowing what is going on. So, not bleeding any more, but was told to take it easy until I get further word at follow up appt with my OB. I was surprised to learn that bleeding during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy and having everything be okay is not that uncommon.

On to the rest of my day....Was able to get Tommy in to see the doctor this afternoon. He has asthma and his breathing has not been good the past few days and he says it feels like someone is pressing on his chest. But he is a kid that does not slow down for anything - as a baby he had a broken arm and we didn't even know it for 24 hours because he didn't cry or slow down from play, etc. Anyway, the doctor today said his lungs sounded very bad, She thought at first he had pnemonia , but the fact that he doesn't have a fever and is not vomiting indicates that it is just a bad asthma attack. so she checked his blood oxygen levels and they were low. She said it was at 92 and she couldn't let us leave the office until they increased to at least 95. So in the office she gave him an albuterol treatment and his levels increased to 96. She sent us home with liquid Prednisone for him, and a new kind of inhaler called Asthmanex she wants him to use that throughout the winter. In addition to these meds he is to continue with his allergy regimine of claritin, singulair, nasonex and albuterol treatments as needed (right now we have to give those to him around the clock, every 4 hours even during the night!) He will be missing school tomorrow and can't play in his last baseball game on Saturday.

As you can see I have had a hectic and stressful day. I am just so thankful right now that Tommy is being treated and will be okay, that so far my pregnancy is safe and also very thankful for Ray being such a wonderful husband. He didn't hesitate to come straight home from work this morning and take the rest of the day off to help handle things around here. In fact he did the dinner dishes, took Jason to tennis and is at the pharmacy for me as I type this.

I am hopeful that tomorrow will be uneventful and I can check in with you ladies in the morning.

I am heading up to bed for what I hope will be a good night's sleep!

I usually make some kind of dessert for afterwards. I haven't made that in years. My husband always loved that cake. So anyway, thank you for giving me an idea for the meeting tonight! Florry.

Greetings

I am a new member and look forward to joining the conversations in this community.

I have to agree that when we try to "help" others, they need to take whatever responsiblity they are able to handle, etc., I am thinking of the time my church helped a woman who had become overwhelmed with life and a house that was in a terrible state. It seems that people who have serious hoarding and cleaning issues do not know how to keep it maintained. It was an overwhelming situation. May God give us strength to follow the serenity prayer!

Blessings to all,

Boston Cream Pie

Cake:

1 1/2 c cake flour or 1 1/4 c all purpose flour

1 c sugar

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

3/4 c milk

1/3 cup butter

1 egg (I usually use 2 whites as I need 2 yolks for the filling)

1 tsp vanilla

Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 8 or 9" round cake pan. Measure all ingredients into bowl and blend for 1/2 minute on low then 3 min on high. Scrape bowl as needed. pour into greased/floured and I put wax paper on the bottom of the pan.

Bake 35-40 min or till cake tester comes out clean

Cool 10 min then remove from pan and allow to cool completely.

Filling:

1/3 c sugar

2 tbsp cornstarch

1/8 tsp salt

1 1/2 cups milk

2 egg yolks

2 tsp vanilla

In medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and slat and mix. Mix milk and egg yolks together and gradually pour into pan and mix well. Cook, stirring constantly over medium heat until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 min. Remove from heat, add vanilla and allow to cool to room temp.

Chocolate glaze:

Melt 2 oz unsweetened chocolate and 3 tbsp butter over low heat (or microwave). Stir in 1 cup confectioner's sugar, 3/4 tsp vanilla . Mix in about 2 tbsp hot water, 1/2 tbsp at a time until it reaches desired consistency. A thin icing.

Assembly:

Split cooled cake in half. (I use a bread knife and just saw carefully around the edges moving into the middle until it is completely cut.

Take one half off and put on a plate and put the other on the plate you will serve on.

Cover top with cream filling.

top with rest of cake.

Pour glaze over top and some will drip down the sides. That is fine.

Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hrs before serving.

I often make this the day ahead.
