LOL at you Mary!! Free Birthday cake indeed. When I was a child, there was a particular supper club that indulged birthday diners with a wonderful little cake. My folks took each of us kids to this very special the year we turned 12. It was just mom, dad and whoever it was that was celebrating that last year before the teens. We's get dressed up in our Sunday finest. The folks would find someone to stay with the others, who got have either pot pies or frozen pizza for supper that night, which was a special treat for us back then. Then mom and dad would whisk us off the that magical place where fine linens graced beautifully set tables. We'd be greeted by the hostess who would wish us a Happy Birthday and we marveled at how they could possibly know. We'd be seated and a waitress would come and take our drink orders. A Tom Collins for mom, a whiskey sour for my dad and for US? A kiddy cocktail, of course!! :O) Oh how special we felt. We could order anything we wanted off the menu and at the completion of our meal, the chef would come out with a small birthday cake, complete with candles and present it to the 'guest of honor'!! I'm sure our eye bulged out of our heads at that sight. It was and still is a very special memory and why your comments brought it to mind, I've no idea! But thanks, Mary, for jogging that memory!! I shall be smiling all day remembering back on that simpler, magical time!!
