Rec/Rev Cheese Straws :) Thanks Star and Dorothy!

OMGoodness!  This is the Best recipe!  Thanks for sharing Star and Dorothy!  And everyone else who helped make this such a great treat for dinner tonight!  I read over all your notes!

** I used shredded cheese, no problem.  Used my K/A mixer w/dough hook, but added 2 T water to the dough.  Perfect!  And used the cookie press.  Baked the Cheese straws @ 350 for 13 min, took them right off the pan and onto wax paper!  I think I may need Weight Watchers now!  LOL!  Those are so yummy and perfect with bean soup!

    Hugs!  Cool

If you're a Southern girl, then Cheese Straws are an institution. They serve
them at all the wedding showers, all the "teas" or socials, and all the
receptions. We always have them at Christmas. Most people around here have a
similiar recipe, but I wanted to share these if you've never made them. They
    are just delicious!

    Cheese Straws

2 cups plain, all purpose flour
1/2 lb butter, soft enough to blend well with the cheese
16 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese(shred your own, it makes a difference)
    1 tsp dry mustard
    1/2 tsp red pepper
    1/2 tsp paprika

Cream butter and shredded cheese together. If you have a food processor, you
can use that. I  usually do it by hand. If the butter is soft enough, it's
not difficult to get them mixed up good. . Add dry spices. Mix well. Add
flour. This is the hard part, it doesn't mix well and makes a very crumbly
dough. When your dough is ready, pick it up and "pack" it into little balls
or shape into straws. If you have a pastry tube you can pipe it out that
way. Since I don't,  I generally shape them into little oval "biscuits"

I'm also going to edit this recipe to say to bake them on parchment paper.
I don't ever add any "added" grease to the cookie sheet, but I don't want
    them to stick either.

Bake at 350 for about 18 minutes for little biscuits. Dorothy tried them as
straws and said that they didn't need to cook that long, so I'd go for 14 or
    15 probably.

    Do not brown them.

Thank you for the addendum Miss Dorothy.

I LOVE these things right out of the oven. They are so good!

Oh, thank you so much for trying these. I'm so happy you liked them. I think it's a great little recipe, and those are the kind that I love to share! Be sure and remember them for appetizers when next year's Holiday season rolls around. They're very popular.

    Thanks for letting me know.

DD's liked these so much, I'm making a batch for them to take back to college!  They are going to try to freeze them for the Super Bowl!  But I have a feeling with all those kids, they will be gone in no time!  LOL!

They love to take back baked items!  LOL!

I made cheese straws several years ago with my cookie press; they are really delicious and easy.  After reading all the great reviews on this recipe, I need to make it after I wash my old cookie press. I look forward to homemade cheesy doodles!  I did run across my little recipe book that came with it while I was searching Christmas cookie recipes, old standards, going to make some ladyfingers soon also.  Many thanks.

My posts were also as homebody2 and others. There were numerous log-in problems with the old BB and my 3 different dial-up ISPs, when trying to use my posting name and denied entry; it would make me get a new name saying, I "was trying to use a name already taken", so adding up all my posts is over 10,000, mostly recipes.
