Highly Recommended Reading -- add yours!

I've been reading up a storm this past 6-8 months and have SO many titles and authors to share with you! I have Grace (Gaudrey), my dear friend, to thank for loaning me so many of them from her seemingly bottomless and wonderful library! Thank you, Grace!

I'm not going to say which of these are my favorite, because each time she sends me a new series I have a new favorite, lol!  I've loved each and every one of these books, most of which are series.  I hope you'll add your favorite authors and titles to share with us all!

    NANCY MOSER

    THE SISTER CIRCLE SERIES

     The Sister Circle

    'Round the Corner

    An Undivided Heart

    A Place to Belong

    THE MUSTARD SEED SERIES

    The Invitation

    The Quest

    The Temptation

    THE STEADFAST SERIES

The Seat Beside Me (not officially a part of this series, but one of the characters appears in the other books -- it's also good as a stand-alone!)

    A Steadfast Surrender

    The Ultimatum

    BRANDILYN COLLINS

    THE BRADLEYVILLE SERIES

    Cast a Road Before Me

    Color the Sidewalk For Me

    Capture the Wind For me

    KANNER LAKE SERIES

    Violet Dawn

    Coral Moon

    Crimson Eve

    Amber Morn

    HIDDEN FACES SERIES

    Brink of Death

    Dead of Night

    Stain of Guilt

    Web of Lies

This series doesn't have a name that I can find, but they go together:

    Eyes of Elisha

    Dread Champion

    ANGELA HUNT

    HEAVENLY DAZE SERIES

    Island of Heavenly Daze

    Grace in Autumn

    Warmth in Winter

    A Perfect Love

    Hearts at Home

    Uncharted (an unofficial follow-up)

    KAREN KINGSBURY

    THE 9/11 SERIES

    One Tuesday Morning

    Beyond Tuesday Morning

Any and all of Karen Kingsbury's books are wonderful and I know they've been discussed quite a lot, so just search on her name and latch onto any series -- you won't be sorry!

That's all I have to share for now, but Grace has supplied me with lots more Nancy Moser books for my trip to Cozumel next week, so I'm sure to have more reviews then! In the mean time, I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Mary, thank you for asking me to share this with you all!

    Hugs!

One of the better books I've read in a long time is, "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett. It's big at 900 some pages, but it covers differing people, each with a differing point of view or reasoning behind the same instance.

I copied the list you posted for future use!

    Thanks

    :)

To every one who likes to share a reading of books.... I like to introduce this Irish Book Paddy (it is soon St.Patricks Day) from GrandmaMoses Brother, Dan Doyle (author)

     Paddy

    An Irish Hills Stagecoach Adventure

the book is called Paddy by the Author Dan Doyle this is the Brother of GrandmaMoses (my dear friend for nearly 6 years), she lives in Canada and he lives in Michigan with their family.

The book came out 6/6/2005 and what a pleasure to read this book, "GrandmaMoses, I liked it from the beginning to the end".

you can read more on his web-site http://www.dansdoyle.com/

also on this web-site lots of information about the Civil War and the era it was written in

    http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/9931/index.htm

    About the Book

Paddy is a novel about family life in Somerset, Michigan during the first year of the American Civil War. It's a novel of adventure, intrigue, romance and comedy set in a background of historical places, many of which you can still see today as you drive along the Chicago Road from Jonesville through the Irish Hills to Clinton

    My Susie,

I was a bookworm from the start and am always looking for a good read.  There are those that are indulgences like potato chips you munch just for fun and then there are those dense, meaningful books you carry with you forever.  I love both kinds for different reasons.  I am taking my sleepy self off to bed soon so I'm sure there will be more to add.  For now I leave you with these, in no particular order.

"Stuffed" by Patricia Volk.  It's about growing up in a restaurant family.  Funny and tender.  After borrowing this one I had to buy myself a copy to have with me always.

"Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt.  I know, I know, very depressing for some, but I found it cleansing and redemptive somehow.  I read voraciously, but I'm telling you I couldn't pick up another book for a month or two because Frank stayed with me so long.

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini.  I will never look at Muslim women the same again.  Incredibly moving.  Right up there with Angela, if you ask me.  Highly highly recommend it.

"Under the Tuscan Sun" and "Bella Tuscany" by Frances Mayes.  These books pretty much describe my childhood.  They were like going home.  This author captures the italian's joie de vivre and spirit perfectly If you've not been to Italy they may not strike you the same way, but they are still great reads.

"The Knitting Circle" by Ann Hood.  Very sweet, captures the relationships of several women who meet while knitting.  Knitting fool that I am, that made it even better for me.

"The Joy Luck Club" by Amy Tan.  Any of her books really, but especially this one.  I read it a long time ago...should visit it again.

All of Jan Karon's books...the Mitford series especially.  Love them for their sweetness, innocence and simplicity.  Not quite potato chip books, they're more substantial than that.

"What's so Amazing About Grace?" by Phil Yancey.  Non-fiction...Anyone seeking an authentic relationship with God should read this one.  It's honest and real.  I love it.

Gosh, I could go on and on.  That's enough for now.  Night night...happy reading!  Lisa Apron

Tee Hee...that should have said My Dear Friend Susie...not My Susie!  I thought I had worked through my territorial issues, but I guess not!  I'm as bad as Casper (sleeping on the couch curled up in a tight ball, pink nose and whiskers barely showing above his warm legs).

Thanks Susie for the book list, which I have copied with great relish as I love reading and am always looking for new books. Other than Angela Hunt's 'Heavenly Daze Series' which I have, the other series are new to me and I'm looking forward to seeking them out. Have a wonderful time in Cozumel.

P.S. A series I highly recommend is by author Diana Gabaldon - The Outlander series. The first book is entitled 'Dragonfly in Amber'. It tells the story of Jamie Fraser, a Scottish Highlander from the 18th century and his time traveling wife Claire, a nurse during WW II. A fantastic time travel romance/adventure series. There are 7 or 8 books, thus far.

Anne, I have the book A Breath of Snow and Ashes, I got it for Christmasn and the

Audio book from the Outlander on 28 CD's both by Diana Gabaldon,

Nearly done with MAYADA  Daughter Of IRAQ  by Jean Sasson

One Woman's Survival under Saddam Hussein

I am also reading The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver a story told by the wife abd four daughters of Nathan Price, a fierce, evagelical Baptist who takes his family and mission to the Belgian Congo. What follows is a suspenseful epic of one family's tragic undoing over the course of three decades.

    Covered Wagon Women

Diaries and Letters from the Western Trails, 1840-1849, I bought that at a Museum were they had a store on the 49er route.

Morgan's Run by Colleen Mc. Cullough, Author of The Thorn Birds

It is about the first fleet what arrived  at Bottany Bay on January 19th,1788,    582 males and 193 females who were sentenced to transportation to Australia, their suffering had not ended there when they set foot on Australian soil, but just started. Of those convicts Richard Morgan stood out. This is a powerful love story full of drama, passion, hatred and adventure, (I think they have to make a movie from this great book) It is the beginning of the Australian settlers. Excelent

I am needed but will share more good books.

Dear Susie, Nothing goes better with evening Tea than a splendid book! I love your list and plan to be as greedy with reading them as I am with my teas.

If you have a cup of tea in one hand and a cookie in the other....where do you put your book? I know! You balance it on top of your head and practice perfect posture all the way to your favorite curl up spot! Your friend, Mary

Well, Susie, it has taken me a while to get myself in gear and respond to your sweet post. Thanks for the kind words. You know how I am about reading and I just have to tear myself away forcibly to get anything else done. But I would like to add another author to the list:

SYLVANIA BAMBOLA: So far I have 3 of hers and have read the first one twice already. Definitely not potato chips nor what I call "fluff."

Tears in a Bottle - Very powerful novel dealing with abortion. Your heart will break for the girl.

Waters of Marah - 1st in a series

Return to Appleton - 2nd of the series

    Susan,

Did you say 28 C.D.'s from the Outlander series?? Wasn't aware that these came on C.D.'s, but what a good idea - that's a whole lot of C.D.'s!!            Anne

Since you've been gone, Susie, and I don't have you to talk to, I been reading up a storm! LOL Here are 3 new (to me) authors and their series. I've finished the first 2 authors' series and am halfway through the 3rd. one. Hurry home, girl, before I go broke buying books. [[Okay, I'm editing one more time to try and get this in a more readable form.]]

JOE HILLEY: (This series puts me in mind of Mickey Spillane, but without the strong language. It seems to me to be a "guy series" but I always liked Mickey Spillane, so liked this one even more.)

    Deposition

    Double Take

    Electric Beach

    Night Rain

    Sober Justice

BRANDT DODSON: (Another "guy series" but I loved it too. Really great characters - very human.)

    Original Sin

    Seventy Times Seven

    The Root of All Evil

    The Lost Sheep

White Soul (Just out and I have it ordered. Can’t wait!)

EFFIE LELAND WILDER:  (Love, love, love this author! She wrote her first book at age 85 in 1995 when she was in a nursing home. She runs the gamut of emotions in her writing, so be prepared to laugh, cry, sigh, and most of all enjoy! Sadly, she passed away last July at age 97.)

    Out to Pasture

    Over What Hill?

    Older But Wilder

    One More Time

Oh My Goodness (I doubt I'll ever read this one since the lowest price I've seen for a USED copy was $110! I only paid $1.00 each for used copies of the others.)

I edited three times and still can't get it to print the way I wanted it to. Hope you can understand it anyway.

Couldn't leave it alone and edited it 2 more times. It's better but still not perfect. Maybe it makes more sense now though.

Grace, thanks for the new recommendations -- hope everyone keeps them coming!

I read Nancy Moser's Time Lottery in Mexico and am reading the sequel right now....I think she may be my favorite author!

Thanks for blessing me with all of these books, Grace!
