Mac and cheese tuna bake recipe sought....

When I was a kid my mom used to make this fabulous dish called Mac and Cheese Tuna Bake.

It was extremely delicious, I remember helping mom shred the cheese and it was alays made for my birthday meal.

I remember her making a sauce or gravy that got added to the cooked macaroni, it had dry mustard powder in it.

I would love to have the recipe, mom has mental problems and cant make it anymore and dont remember the recipe.

Over the years my mom has had thousands of pen pals from all over the world and I bet some one has her recipe.

    Tuna, Cheese & Macaroni Casserole

    Ingredients:

    • 8 oz. elbow macaroni - prepare as directed

    • 6-1/2 oz. can of tuna in water (drained)

    • 1/2-cup chopped green olives

    • 1 cup Velveeta - melted

    • 1 cup milk

    • 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup

    • 2 eggs - beaten

    • 1 tsp. garlic salt

    • 1/4 tsp. mustard powder

    Directions:
Combine all ingredients in large casserole dish.  Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 minutes, covered.  Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes.  Serves 4.

Sharp Cheddar would likely be very good in lieu of Velveeta. ( Guess maybe because I do not eat Velveeta. (Smile)

I cannot imagine mac and cheese and tuna together.  We had tuna casserole growing up but not w/mac and cheese.  Hmmmm, now I'm thinking I might make tuna casserole for dinner tomorrow.  Been a while since I've had it Smile

DH and I loooove this easy recipe.  You can easily change it up to fit your family's tastes.  I will put some of my changes in ( )'s .

    Golden Tuna Casserole

    1 pkg (7 ¼  oz) macaroni & cheese
    2 tbs butter or margarine
½ cup chopped onion (I just start chopping onion, don't measure)
¼ cup chopped green pepper (don't always use)
1/3 cup milk (I like to add a little more milk than this)
1 can cr of celery soup
1 can (6 oz) tuna, drained
1 jar (4 ½ oz) slice mushrooms, drained
1 jar (2 oz) diced pimientos, drained
½ cup velveeta cheese, diced   (I like to use the Kraft Cheez Links-garlic  flavor, when I can find it)  (can use any cheese you like)

Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside.  Saute onion and green pepper in butter.  Return macaroni to the pan with the onion and green pepper.  Add milk and contents of cheese sauce packet; stir until smooth.  Stir in the soup, tuna, mushrooms, pimientos and velveeta.  Simmer over low heat, stirring often, until heated through or until cheese is melted.  This is where I add the extra milk, if needed.   (I sometimes add a can of sliced water chestnuts, drained)
