    We Have it Good

    By Dr. James MacDonald

“When Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.” Hebrews 9:11-12

What would your life have been like if you had lived one hundred years ago? The average life expectancy was about 47 years, so that would settle it for some of us almost immediately. Six people out of one hundred graduated from high school. Only 14 percent of homes had a bathtub. If your family had a telephone, you would have ranked in the top 8 percent of the country. (Too bad a 3-minute long-distance call to your uncle in Denver cost almost a month’s income.) There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S. to drive on 144 miles of paved roads at a maximum of 10 mph. Ninety-five percent of all births happened at home, and 90 percent of all physicians had no formal training.

Sometimes we have to look back to realize how good we have it.

Hebrews 9 was written to help us do that. It describes in detail the precise regulations that the Old Testament saints were required to follow to approach God. Even then, it was a system of barriers: two lamb sacrifices every day, sin offerings, grain offerings, scapegoats, Sabbath rules, temple taxes, mandated tithes, what you could eat, how you could prepare it. 793 times the law said, do this, don’t do this, do that, don’t do that.

That was the way it was without Christ. The path to God was regulated, remote, restricted, religious, ritualistic; all of it saying, Step back from God-He’s holy and you’re not.

But verses 11-12 tell us when all that changed. “ When Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.”

In the old system, God was a long way away, and it was impossible to approach Him with any confidence whatsoever. To chance it meant risking your life. But all that changed when Jesus stepped into the gap. “But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come…” Jesus became the hinge between sinful humanity and a God who is so holy that He dwells in unapproachable light and indescribable glory. First Timothy 2:5 calls Jesus the “Mediator between God and men.”

How did He do it? Hebrews 9:26 says it amazingly simple: “[ Jesus] put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” Jesus, the sinless, holy Son of God, became the last sacrifice necessary for the forgiveness of your sin. Through Christ, the barriers were lifted, the gate was flung wide open and a permanent sign was posted, “Come on in.”

If you’ve ever wondered how God would receive you if you knocked on His door, here’s your answer: No sin is too big, no time or distance away from God is too great that He will not receive you with open arms. The old system is gone; 793 barriers to God became a new and living way: Jesus Christ (10:19). Come boldly to His throne of grace (4:16).

No question about it-we have it good, real good.

    Hi All!

Charlie, I was just telling Hubby a little while ago how blessed we are. We don't have the best of everything but we have enough. But even more than physical things--we have Jesus in our hearts and He's worth more than all the things this world can give!  Giving God Praise for the Gift of His Dear Son!  Thank You, Jesus, for dying for our sins and for giving us Eternal Life!  To God Be the Glory!

DS asked us yesterday to go to Church today with him and his GF.  He wanted to surprise her--both with his attendance and ours.  And we did! :)  Then we all (along with her Aunt who's like her Mother) went out for lunch.  We had a nice time. :)  But the "real icing on the cake" for us was that our son whom I've been praying for, for SO long--was in Church with us!  Praise God!

Now I'm going to have an early night.  Meeting with my "Golden Girls" --that's my old school friends--for lunch tomorrow .;)

    Praying for all!

    God Bless! Nite Nite!

Hi All!   God bless each of you today!!

Well, praise God!! I am not sore except for just a bit of soreness in my arms, but my back is not sore at all!  I was pretty worried, but for nothing apparently!

Continuing to pray for Deb and family and especially that all things related to the funeral for her dad.  Praying for Dot that she would be comforted. Deb, how is your mom doing?

Good morning. Another busy day for. Laundry of course, and since the kids are off all week for spring break, I want to get some extra cleaning done too.

Tomorrow the kids and I are going to my mom and dads. Mom is going to help me knot the quilts that I made for my girl's beds, and the boys are going to help Dad with some jobs that he can't do anymore because of his eyesite.

Plus we have meetings at church all week. There is a minister going to be preaching/teaching about prophecy. That should be interesting. Then on Sunday evening, my nephew is getting married. So, I don't know how much I will be on here this week. But, know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers, even if I'm not here.

Live in such a way that those who know you but don't know God, will come to know God because they know you.

Kaye:  Thanking the Lord you are not sore!  I love how He answers prayer!

     Linda:  Afternoon!  How are you?

LindaZ:  Great to see you, honey!

Mari:  I wish I was there to hear the teaching!   Wow! You do have a busy week, but it sounds like a pleasant one.  Praying you through it.

Treasa:  LOL!  Was there any food left?  Sounds like a wonderful time.  How is the little guy?  Did they figure out what was wrong?   Willpower!  I need that!

Chris:  I have another busy week coming.  Just trying to get things ready for spring, and deep cleaning done.

Deb:  "Dear Lord, I just ask that You put your loving hands upon Debbie and her family, and extended family.  That your love and grace will be as a balm in Gilead.  Give them rest and comfort in you Lord.  I also ask that you give Deb the ability to sleep well, and to be able to go through everything with Your peace on her heart.  I plead that you keep her sugar levels in check, and her overall health good.. Oh my God, you know the sorrow in their hearts that is mixed with joy.  Wrap you arms around them and hold them close!   One more boon do I ask, and that is that those of the family that are not walking with You will see their great and dire need of You in their lives and come to the foot of the cross.   In Jesus' name.   Amen"
