HAPPY TGIF!!! Rainy and T-Storms tonite and tomorrow and snow as soon as Saturday. They aren't making any predictions as they are hoping it'll be a mix and not stick. Me toooooo!!! I've picked up Sunday night because nobody else can order. There's me, the girl that broke her arm, a RN who is on vacation and another girl who rarely orders and won't pick it up. Well, it was me or me. Bummer but it'll give me 6 nights next week and "cha ching".

I went and looked at a house to rent last evening. Uff da, am I in for a search. I found out there is a major problem with my credit report and until I get it cleared up, (it could take months) I can't finance anything let alone refinance to lower my payments right now. I could have to do the unmentionable that so many Americans are having to do with their debts. The worst part is I've tried so hard to keep up. I'd need at least $65,000 over fair market to break even - like that's going to happen. My house appraised at $50,000 more than fair market listed. That's a bummer. Anyway. The house wasn't bad just not what I'm use to. Sandwiched in between two other houses, no front yard to speak of, back yard about the size of my front yard width, needs a good cleaning, a bit run down...... I just don't know. The good side is main floor laundry area and for $25 more a month I can keep Taffy with me. Well, Taffy is non-negotiable. The cat yes, Taffy no. I didn't even bring up the cat. Wish me luck on that search.

Well, better go finish chores. Mary, strong coffee in the am please. Got any contraband snacks to share?? LOL

    Good Morning Everyone,

The coffee is ready!! No contraband snack to speak of....wish there were!! I am not too into baking because I would eat it if its in the house.

Michelle, I  am sorry about the house.  I still feel something will turn up for you.  That is nice that you picked up Sunday for some extra cash!!!  I sure hope you don't get snow and if you do, I hope it doesn't stick.  Our weather next week is alot cooler, but it might be a good time for me to get caught up inside with the endless closet cleaning.

Hauke, I am glad you are home.  I am sure it was an awesome experience seeing Heather graduate.  I am anxious to hear all about it!!! How is your weather? Still snowing.

It took me forever to get on this site this AM.  I don't know what is going on with the computer, so if I don't return, you know its computer problems.

Wishing you ALL a GREAT Friday.  Tonight we are going to DD's for granddaughters birthday party. DD is making supper!!! Yeah....no cooking tonight!!!

    Hugs,

Good morning Mary!! Thanks for the coffee. Sorry about no contriband tho LOL. You're right, if we had it we'd eat it and then there wouldn't be any to share LOL. Sigh.....

Don't worry about the housing situation. I mostly needed to vent and come clean about what's going on. I know I'm not alone. I'm calling a lawyer today. I need to make sure I wouldn't be held accountable for whatever the mortgage company doesn't get for the house. I'm also asking if it'd be better to sell the house first, get what I can, pay that to the mortgage company then file. I don't know. I just don't know. I do know I'll never get enough to pay both mortgages off, I won't be able to get a loan to cover that - go deeper in debt to pay off debt. How much sense does that make??

I'm off this weekend but back Sunday night. Have a great couple days everyone. Sending those fuzzies out to all!

Michele - I'm sorry you got stuck with working Sunday.  But as you say, cha-ching!  I do wish you luck in the house search.  It is tough.  Enjoy the days off that you do get.  Try to get some rest.

Nancy - Yes, it does feel good to sleep in a little bit every now and then.  I bet everybody was glad to see you at the Senior Center yesterday and you were able to chat with friends.

Sandy - We are to have a cool down, too, starting tomorrow.  We've gotten spoiled by these warmer temps.  I like roasted veggies, too, but I've never tried them with all the seasonings that you add.  That sounds wonderful.  I'll try that next time.  I usually just put salt on them.

Mary - Are you and Ron going to fly to WI?  Be sure to get your reservations in early so you can get a good deal.  Have a good time at GD's graduation party this evening.

Hauke - I'm glad you got home safely.  Hope you got some good rest last night.  I'm anxious to hear about the graduation.

We weren't busy last night.  I had my big document to finish, then had to proof it.  They cut it down from 350 pages to 210!

When I was driving home, I saw a police car with lights flashing coming from the other direction, so I pulled over.  He pulled into the Long John's Silvers.  Then I noticed about 10-15 other police cars and they had police tape up.  I don't know what happened but I figured it was something big.  But there was nothing in the newspaper about it.  So strange.

The kids are off from school today, so I'm thinking maybe I'll call to see if maybe we can all have lunch together.

It looks like a nice day so far, but I know it is to cool down.

Re: DC Conversation - Friday, April 25

    Hi all.

I have a couple of food things to share today.

First I bought some Joseph's Pita Breads at Wal-Mart today.  Boy are they good!!  They are made with ground flax seed, oat flour, and whole wheat flour.  They're 60 calories each and I think 3 carbs.  Another goodie to use for a sandwich or even a pizza.

Next is this yummy recipe for Roasted Asparagus with Lemon.  I've made this twice in the last month.  It's a great, healthy way to serve asparagus.  It was posted by salsarose on the recipe BB.

    Roasted Asparagus with Lemon

Cooked to firm perfection, these spears are easily eaten with fingers.

    Ingredients:

    1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
    1 teaspoon olive oil
    1/4 teaspoon lemon zest
    12 asparagus spears, trimmed
Salt and coarsely ground black pepper to taste

    Procedure:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Mix lemon juice, oil and lemon zest in a glass
baking dish. Add asparagus, turn to coat.

    Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Roast asparagus until crisp and tender, turning occasionally, about 20 minutes.
    Serve immediately.

It looks like it's going to rain any minute here.  And like Joyce and Sandy it's supposed to start getting colder.  The weatherman is saying 30s in the mornings next week.

Kenny & I worked upstairs yesterday getting rid of alot of things.  The city is doing spring trash pickups this week and next.  Tuesday Kenny put out alot of things from the basement and attic of the garage.  He also took a truck load of stuff to the junkyard.  He made $53 on it so it was well worth the trip.

I was going to make Arelabs recipe for Beef in a Bucket.  I found a nice roast at Wal-Mart for $8.  Went to the cupboard to get the gardinera (sp?) and the pepperoncinis and I didn't have either one!  So I'm making it Mexican instead of Italian.  I seasoned the roast with chili powder, cumin, oregano, garlic powder, smoked seasoned salt, and pepper.  The I added a jar of mild jalapenos, Mexican tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and a can of vegetable broth.  I figure it will make good taco salad and tacos.

I'm off to see my Mom.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Warm, muggy greetings to all.  Whew!!  The sun is out and the humidity is up, up, up!!!  Storms late tonight, altho we had a brief heavy rain this morning.  Did my Curves and ran some errands, sat outside while Gracie did some hunting, ate lunch and decided to check in.

hauke, glad you made it home safe and sound.  Can't wait to hear about the graduation.   We can all see you beaming.

Good thing Mary didn't have any contraband sweets for Michele or else the food police would have been all over this thread!!!LOL   Mary, we are to get the cool down starting tonight.  Good luck with the closet cleaning.  Have fun at the b'day party.  What is your decision on Wi?

Michele, I know that you will do what is right for you.  And for any comfort it may bring, you sure are not alone in struggling to make ends meet.

Joyce, I hope you were able to have lunch with the kids today.  It is so nice out, I'm thinking youy could be on a picnic right now.

Well, time to get ready for the fish fry.  Later all.

Re: DC Conversation - Friday, April 25

    Hi everyone!

I have a great sleep and feel very rested... which is great as I had a lousy sleep in the hotel the night before.  We couldn't control the heat and so the room got SO HOT that I felt like getting up at 3 am and opening the door to let the snowstorm in to cool off the room.  Found out later that my parent room was just as hot and mom wanted to open the door too.  LOL

Isn't is amazing how our own bed always feels the best?  I think so.

Well, here's the scoop.  We all went in dad's car and he did the driving.

On our trip to Calgary, I stopped counting cars / trucks in the ditch after I got to 16... and we were only 45 minutes out of town.  These were cars in the ditch from the storm earlier in the week - you could tell that some of them had been there a day or two as they were completely drifted in.  A couple had fresh tire tracks and looked like they had happened that morning.  The further south we went, the fewer snow drifts at the side of the roads.

We made good time and had a good trip.  The roads were bare when we traveled - we were checked into the hotel by about 5:30.  We met up with Heather and BF and she got her shoes to wear for grad.  Then we all went to Chili's for supper.  It was fun!  When we left Chili it was snowing again and we had a good inch on the car to scrape off.  Since we didn't all fit in the car, my dad drove me and Rebecca back to the hotel, then went back to get the rest and drove Heather back to her apartment.  On the way, she took him past where grad would be so we'd know where to go in the AM.

In the morning, we had breakfast at the hotel and then cabbed to grad.  Parking is a real pain at the university and very expensive as well, so taking the cab was a great choice.  Heather told me that you can book a cab in advance, so I did that and he was right in time.  It was still snowing and icy when we left the hotel, so I was sure glad we had come on bare roads the night before.  We got there a little early, so had time to explore the campus a bit.  I can see why Heather enjoyed her time there, as the mezzanine and atrium was a very beautiful spot and had a great food court attached.  There were lots of students milling around, cramming in homework and studying.  Just because Heather was done, not all the departments were done with classes.

The grad all wore their new chef's jackets - part of the grad ceremony.  Each one had their name embroidered on the jacket, just like you see in Food TV.  That was kind of cool.

There were several awards presented and a couple of trophies.  Some were given to first year bread bakers and the rest for the completed program.

Heather was present with an award - for "leadership skills, professional promise, skills development, great attitude and volunteerism".  She's a volunteer at heart - always doing something for someone else or volunteering to organize group events and functions (I think it runs in our family LOL) .... and so when the criteria for this award was first read by the MC I just knew that they were describing my daughter.  There were several other awards I thought she might have been up for, but this was the only one that focused on volunteerism - and I've known how much she's volunteered during and after class so it didn't surprise me when they called her name.

I actually cried.  Not sure why - but as she was heading to the stage, I'm sitting in the back with tears in my eyes.     OK... so I was proud of her.  I admit it.

After the ceremony, I went back to the hotel to check out.  Rebecca went with her dad (who was also there) and they had lunch.  Heather went to the Grad Banquet and the reports I heard was that the food was awesome!  (it was catered by the students of the cooking school and they all graduate today).   No, I did not go to the banquet.  Heather was only allowed 4 tickets and of course her BF had one.  Since her dad refuses to be civil to me, I knew that it would never work if her parents went to the banquet - so I talk her to use my ticket and take my mom instead.  and to take her dad's ticket and take his mom instead.  There was no way I wanted to spoil her day by having such negative energy at the table that there would have been if she had tried to take us both - and I would never have put her in the position of having to choose between us - so I figured it was "our" problem, not hers, so we were the ones who should loose out, not her.  Apparently his mother really objected to this plan, but she did finally agree to come.  My mom and my ex MIL can be civil to each other - due in part to the great women that they both are.  At the last minute, Heather was able to get another ticket, so she was able to take my dad as well.

Everyone enjoyed the lunch -- mom said they had lamb and many many things she's never tried before, but everything tasted great.  My dad even raved about the Brussels sprouts - and he NEVER likes any vegetable other than red cabbage.... so it must have been good!  Yes

By mid afternoon, we were heading back home.  Heather had a grad party  Party!!! to attend that was for students only and she had arranged for her dad to drive here and BF there as it was way across town.  I spoke with her just a bit ago and she says she had a lot of fun and got home some time after midnight.

Monday at 9 am she's on a plane to South America.  ...  Chili....   that's where the student tour is heading.  I know she has a lot to finish this weekend - packing and even some shopping... as she's still looking for a swimsuit.  The next few days will speed by.  Wish I was there to help her and drive her to the airport - but hey, she's a college grad now - so she's quite capable of doing things for herself!  Cool

Well, there's my report.  I know you were thinking of me and you're cheering her on.  I really appreciate that!

Now as for the weather.... well, it's stopped snowing - the forecast is for warm on Saturday and warmer on Sunday so by Monday I would expect all our snow to be gone -  which would be a good thing considering that next week is May!

I guess I better tackle some of my Friday To Do's.  Have a great day everyone.  I love you all.

    Hi, everyone.

Lots going on here----for us and weather wise. Lightning and rain all night. More storms came thru in the afternoon. Now, we have middle 70's and sunshine. Weather report just gave a tornado warning until 8 PM, tonight.

HAUKE, thanks for the report. What a great day for Heather and the family. I think your snowy stuff may be headed this way by Monday.

DEB, right now, a great day to be sitting out. But, nippy air moving in on the weekend.

CAROL, I am not near a big WM, so I may have trouble finding those pitas. But, I am going to make my asparagus like the recipe you posted. Salsarose posts lots of good recipes. Sometimes she stops in here to say HI.

JOYCE, hope you made lunch with the kids and that you had a good time.

MARY, no cooking and a party, that sounds good to me.

MICHELE, see you Sunday. Hope the weather isn't too mean up north.

Our city Community Band has a concert, tonight. Laura is still doing the percussion, but does play her alto clarinet for two songs. See you all in the morning.

    Hello!

What a wonderful graduation Heather had hauke, thanks for all the details!!  Whirlwind trip too.  I know your bed must feel especially good again!!  I hate motel rooms that are too hot and stuffy, I've opened the patio door or window in many of them myself, or at least dh had to do that.  I used to get sort of claustraphobic in there.

We are gonna be gone this weekend down to the valley for uncle and aunt's anniversary, so everyone take care and stay safe, perhaps have some fun too!!!
