    Site Survey Update

Thanks to everyone who took part in last week's survey! Your feedback will help us improve this site. Overall, survey results indicate that...

    1. You're more interested in improving performance than in adding new features.

    2. You visit primarily to exchange recipes and to chat.

Regarding performance, many of you said that the site seems slow and that navigation needs improvement. We're already at work on those issues. For example, you'll soon see new navigation links in the right-hand column that will let you quickly move from one forum or group to another. We're also checking out a text-only option that would let you "turn off" graphics if you choose.

NOTE that many users reported a major improvement in performance after switching browsers. Firefox seems to work best, especially on Macintosh computers.

As for exchanging recipes, we're working improving the search function and adding an "ISO" (In Search Of) link that will quickly search the site for user recipes and Taste of Home recipes. We're also working on improvements to online recipe boxes.

After we've worked on performance and recipe search issues, we'll begin to implement some new features based on survey results. I'll keep you posted.

    Again, thanks for your feedback!

    Re: Site Survey Update

Thanks for the update....Was it only a one day survey?? Just by the comments people said....I did take the survey.

Thanks again....It sure seems like quite a few people have a real hard time even getting on this site for some reason..I don't... but I noticed some people comments when they do manage to get on....

P.S.  With the gas getting so high, this gives allot of people contact with others in the same boat..It is nice to have some communication  when you feel in the mood...or...have some extra free time on your hands....

And it seem you do a great job lately of keeping the so called "trolls" ..".trouble makers" shut down....

    ..Thanks again

    Hi

Sorry a bug in the system on my part for the double post. I hope when you evaluate your survey you take into account people who cannot get e mail notifications when answering or starting a new thread. I am one of those people, no matter what I choose I never get e mail notifications

    Thanks for improving the site

Howdy, love2cook---I, also, took the survey. Though I marked negative in the areas of a lot of the new stuff you proposed. Why? I did not have a clue what it was you were talking about.

    Re: Site Survey Update

I'll just take the easy way out and copy my earlier reply from kc.

Ok, I'll play Devil's Advocate here because when the site first came online, I was one of the few that experienced faster page loading than on the old software & servers. Then as now my browser of choice was/is Internet Explorer. I'll also mention just for the record that while I'm not computer Geek, I'm not completely ignorant and can work my way thru most software issues that I've encountered. I know many people here have more knowledge and experience than I do but I also know many, many more do not.

    So I have to ask.............

Just because you failed to beta test this new software properly (in other words with people of all skill levels ...... the people who would actually be using it on a daily basis) ............

Why should we be forced to use a different browser in order for this site to work like it's supposed to?

    Yes, I know I am a btch.
I have been a btch all my life. I am good at it.
It takes very little effort on my part, and I am used to it. Applying the same reasoning to you, I cannot understand your offense at being called stupid.

Thanks for the Update. I Really like the graphics and they load fast for me. They add a lot to the board IMO and I also love seeing  pics of how the finished recipes look.

Glad we  will have the option of using or not utilizing the graphics.

TY for all the time and effort spent to improve the board .

    Re: Site Survey Update

I too am one that took the survey and not in a real positive outlook, as one posted here, some being forced to use another browser to use this site, in other words they are trying to fix on their end something that is not working for everyone. I guess that goes in many circumstances, but for so many who are not computer suavey. Some have older computer and this day and age cannot afford a new computer let alone gas to go after the food and then the food prices. *smile* Anyway, you get the gist of it, not being able to afford a new computer so hoping a site that they have visited and loved, will work for THEM. Again, here is a place that people can come to, to find recipes not that the search works, sometimes, we still have those days. But the slow loading pages, or site not loading for them. I have to say, my other sites have worked great for me, only this one has been so slow the past couple days once again, but for many in the PCH room, well them having troubles as well. Thank you for taking the time to address some of these issues, but we too know that Reimans has some to be desired at the moment. Connie

    Re: Site Survey Update

I was not on the board for the past week and missed the survey.  I would have liked to reply, but will give you a couple of thoughts about the new system.

Not being a real computer person, I had trouble at first navigating.  It's much better now.  I have found it very slow  in the afternoon--particularly late--whyis this?

I also do not like the fact that some of the "groups" are in a special place--I never seek them out and feel that I have lost some of the old friends I made on the old board.  Please integrate them in the regular board--we who do not go to the groups miss a lot I feel.   Why did you do this?  Was it because of requests or to make the regular Recipe board have a fewer number of  posts. Bad decision.

Also, as you can see, there is much less movement of the board and many fewer posters.  These people must have gotten "mad" and just left.  I feel badly that this happened, but I feel that the folks in charge are to blame because you never answered peoples posts inquiring about what was wrong with the board, etc.  I even called Reiman and the persons I spoke with would not acknowledge that anything was wrong and continued to act "dumb".  I think this was the reason so many left.  The whole affair certainly lacked any good public relations==that's for sure.

I do thank you for all the good things you have done and hope the improvements continue.

    Re: Site Survey Update

Well, I've been mighty busy of late and so missed the whole survey thing! NO matter. I just wanted to pop in to say I truly do appreciate the effort you are putting into addressing the issues many have mentioned and doing your best to find solutions to please them. I sometimes wonder if you'll ever be able to make everyone happy! I know the answer already! You won't! But I think it imperative you know that there are some out here who are very grateful for what you provide for us and what you continue to do to satisfy our needs! You could easily just say to heck with all of you. But you don't. You keep trying!! That is truly amazing to me! Keep up the good work! Just wanted you to know!! And now I'll slink out the back way and go back to my safe little niche.............:o)

    Thanks!!

    Re: Site Survey Update

For some reason, I missed taking the survey...guess I just didn't see it.  But I do want to thank you for having this board. I've found so many great recipes I find from other users, and from the TOH recipes search.  I am very glad to hear that there may be an option to turn off graphics.  They're very nice, but I'm wondering if the graphics are making this board load so slow for me.  Every time a different page loads, I wait and wait...kinda defeats the purpose of having a high speed connection.   This doesn't happen on other sites, so I'm not willing to change my browser.  I'm looking forward to trying out the text-only option, if it's available.

    Re: Site Survey Update

Hi   I took the survey and I have really loved the new format...I am in the group of people who are just average in computerize.. I can't do siggys or pictures but I love the formats..  I was one in favor of grouping the differant "clubs"  it was to me a little time consuming to go through page after page to find the group I was looking for and in the swap groups (which I belonged) taking up so much space with the listing of gifts they received ( again something I enjoyed doing) but if I did not join in it was a llittle boring, I enjoy the "whats cookin" group but again get tired of the search for it when I could just go to one of the formats and find it...now I still brose most all of the commnity messages and I can't say I am on all day because I  work but I give it probably a few hours a day in the morning and evening.   I really enjoy the new format....  Shirley

    Re: Site Survey Update

unfortunately I did not see the survey for I would have gladly taken the time.

I do miss the old format but my biggest problem.....that I still have not gotten an answer for....

When I post a new post, is there a way of finding out that others have responded? I loved the feature of the old "way" that we would receive an e-mail. Can that happen now? Am I just missing it?

PLEASE if possible bring that back

    Thank you

    Re: Site Survey Update

Good morning I too, missed the survey, and would like to post a few comments. The only way I can access the site is to use Firefox also - (and even then it's slow) although my main browser is Internet Explorer. Therefore to see this site, I have to switch browsers. Not a good thing. I originally thought there was a problem with my computer, so I guess I'm appreciate the knowledge that it's not just me.   I also agree that it's difficult to re-locate posts...and would like the option of email alerts when a response is posted.  I find that I often spend needless time searching for a post.

I hope you are able to update this new site to work as smoothly as the old one. Thanks for the opportunity to "vent"
