    Flyladies Report - 5/5 - 5/11/08

    Good morning everyone.

Zone 2, Kitchen: Kelly's mission for Monday:   Scrub down your counter tops.

Tuesday's Mission:  De-clutter the plastic leftover, food storage, Rubbermaid, Tupperware, Glad-Ware, etc. containers.  Let go of anything missmatched, stained or just the wrong size for you.

Wednesday:  Take a look at the gadgets and small appliances.  The toaster, can opener, coffee maker, microwave etc.  Just the ones you use on a regular basis.  When was the last time you cleaned out your toaster; opened the botom and dumped the crumbs?  Or cleaned the blades on the electric can openers?  How about the microwave oven?  Wipe them down and make them shine.

Thursday:  Grab the old toothbrush and some general purpose cleaner and scrub the faucets on your kitchen sink.

Friday:  Take a few mins. to check your cabinets.  Wipe down the outside surfaces.

I have a lot of last minute things to do today and I better get to them.  Have a great day.  I'll try to stop in later but in case I don't, have a great week and I'll see you on the 12th.

It will be in the 90s today.

I haven't done anything yet...not even dressed...don't tell flylady.  I have done my puzzles, now to do my flooring.  will check in later and see what's up

    Hi Everyone,

It's a beautiful day here!  Supposed to get up to 77 degrees today with the sun shining.

Linda - You asked about our surrogate father.  Actually he is an old friend of my husband's, they go back to the early 70's.  He and his wife retired to Texas in the 80's.  They were way down in the Rio Grande valley.  We used to go down and visit them every spring for a week or so.  They moved back to our area in 2005 and then she passed away in Dec. '05.  It's been a rough go for him ever since, has had lots of health problems as well as depression.  They were married 45 years.  He doesn't have much family in the area, and the ones that are don't pay much attention to him.  So we've adopted him!  My DD doesn't have any living grandparents so this is wonderful for her too.

I wish I could tell you how to go about getting one of your own!  Do they have a Meals on Wheels program in your area that you could volunteer for?  Maybe if you had a route you could get to know some of the elderly folks and if you encountered someone that you liked that seems to need some companionship you could strike up a friendship outside of the food delivery.  Maybe take them out for a meal occasionally, or deliver something you made on the weekend.

It is very gratifying to help people like that.  Sometimes he doesn't feel up to getting his own groceries, so we've done that for him.  Sometimes he needs someone to take him to the doctor.  My DH makes sure that his grass gets cut in the summer.   I used to run some laundry and would secretly clean his house until he caught me at it.  He has a cleaning lady come every other week now.   He's actually gotten so much better.  He had two back surgeries that kept him down quite a bit last summer.  Anyway, we love him very much, and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.

cookie, you thought to respond to Linda, I meant to and it slipped my mind.  When I am home, I volunteer at the hospital as greeter, and escort people to where they want to go...I do it once or twice a week.  It, too, is satisfying.  Just went to costco to see if they could get the scratches off of my glasses, no such luck.  We just watched There Will Be Blood...I don't know what it was about!

    Re: Flyladies Report - 5/5 - 5/11/08

    Hi,

cookie, thanks for the explanation. This summer I have alot on my plate, but will think about it.

I finished up the kitchen a few minutes ago. Dgs has had me on the run so just got the time to finish it. Dd is over studying for finals next week so I'm here alone except ds#2 has been sleeping since around 5 this morning. In a few minutes it will be 12 hrs. NG must've been hard on him this last weekend. lol Smile

Dh and I r planning to go home this weekend and will have to wash some old clothes to go out to the farm, Smile. T is going up north to go fishing this weekend, it's fishing opener, so I guess one of the other Grandmothers is taking care of him. T's Mom & Dad divorced and than remarried to other people so dgs has plenty of grandma's and grandpa's. I only had 2 sets of grandparents but the way things r nowadays...

Having hamburger and leftover potatoes tonight w veggies. Dh doesn't get home til around 6 or 7 so I have a little while longer.

Dgs let me know that he wanted to lay down again so he's down again and I have some time for myself. I'm going to shower and wash my hair tonite and do some errands in the morning. It's suppose to rain out tom. so I hope it's not too wet out tom. morning.

alphy, so u r comeing back to IA this week. I have relatives in AZ and they did say it was getting warmer and had to laugh at the snow we've had a couple of weekends ago.

Well, I better get going and rest for awhile while he's down and before supper has to be started. Everyone have a nice evening. Big Smile

    Hi,

Went and got a couple more bags of peat moss this morning and got them in the shed next to the garden. Would start putting them on the garden but all of a sudden it's raining out. Suppose to have come tonight but...so will do it when the rain stops which will be Thurs. We'll see what the weather man says.

While I was washing the kitchen floor yesterday I know noticed that there's cobwebs up in the corners and a few of the tops of things r icky so tom. while it's raining out I will clean them up. Looking around, I found more webs in a corner in the living room. With the doors and windows open alot I can see them.

Dgs is driving me nuts so I guess I better go for now and deal withe him. Everyone have a great evening. Big Smile

Hi Linda, and others who will check in.  You don't feel well, but you sure get a lot done!!!  I say Hooray for you.

We are busy, packing, cleaning, will leave in the morning when we get ready.  Only going as far as Tucumcari tomorrow...usually we drive too many miles, and decided that is silly at our age.

I likely won't check in until next week.  all of you, take care and hang in there!

    Re: Flyladies Report - 5/5 - 5/11/08

    Good morning everyone,

Dd just went to school and I put dgs in his crib. He's got a bad habit and bangs his head if he doesn't get his way or u scold him. Anyway he has a big knot on his forehead, dd said he shouldn't do that any more today so I'm going to keep him in his crib. I was always told to ignore bad behavior, so I did and what happens...I don't get kids nowadays. I'm about ready to cry. Don't want dgs to knock himself nutty or out so don't know what to do...

Already cleaned the toaster so am going after those cobwebs. U wouldn't think they would be making webs now. If I was a spider I'd want outside and put them out side, but no they use my house, lol Ick!.

Going to do dishes and get all the garbage outdoors in the garbage can, it's garbage day for us today. Get laundry downstairs.

It's not raining out, yeah. So when dd gets back from school I can start the garden. We'll see how far I get.

alphy, have a safe trip. and yes take it easy driving. Saw a special on sleep deprived drivers the other day. I guess this elderly lady was driving while sleeping and she just about went off the road and hit other cars. I guess she went that way for around 30 miles. She's so very lucky.

Heard we r going to have rain this weekend, am going to check the weather. See what dm and db has heard and maybe the weather on the puter. See what I can find out. Just hope it will be nice out for the fishing opener and Mother's Day. It would be nice.

Better go for now and get things done. Everyone have a great day and probably will stop back in later. Big Smile

    Good morning everyone,

Got a good head start on the garden. Have to go and get some compost and more peat moss. For some reason one of my compost bins isn't doing too well so won't have much here so will have to get more. My back is killing me, but I have to finish. So hopefully today...

I was so beat up last night we went out to dinner. I've had chicken in the fridge since Sun. so maybe will get at it tonight. Supposed to get at the kitchen faucet today, but mine is clean so will think of something else. Will have to go through the house this afternoon and straighten up and sweep floors. So that will keep me busy.

It still looks like it's going to rain out this weekend so will do something else this weekend.

Hope everyone is doing great. Take care. Big Smile

    Hi everyone -

I'm wondering if you made it back yet, alphy2!  We drove when we went to Arizona (from Illinois) that was a long trip.  We really did enjoy the scenery though.

Linda - Boy have you been busy.  That yard work is good exercise.  I ought to be doing some!

I volunteered at the meal site alone tonight.  My DD had to play her viola at an award presentation tonight.  She's in her high school orchestra.

I packed up all the stuff in the bathroom cabinets yesterday.  I have my dining room table covered up with pad and vinyl cloth and have all the boxes stacked on that.  That way we don't have to be rooting through boxes on the floor.  My DH met with the tile guy this evening.  He will start by doing the floor in the bathroom.  DH will have to have the old cabinetry, sink, and toilet out of there!

Looks like "Office" is on - gotta go!

    Good morning everyone,

cookie,  I want fresh veggies and fruits so I am working my tail off to acheive that and the way it's going it's going to be very expensive to buy cans of veggie's this fall. With the price of gas and all things don't seem to be going well.

In awhile your br will be done and all the mess and all it will be worth it. I can't wait til we can start  on ours.

I still have to put some more compost on and than peat moss so I better get going or else I won't get done.Smile

Hope everyone is having a nice beautiful day like it is here today. Big Smile

    Hi everyone,

Well haven't really got anything done. Got the dishes soaking, that's about all.

Finally got the garden together and dishes done. Didn't have to watch dgs so finished the garden. Now to plant it. Got most of the seeds and maybe take a break til tom. See what happens with the weather. Says it's going to rain on and off all next week so would like to get it in tom. and later get tomatoes and some other stuff in, if I have room.

How's everyone doing with their kitchens?? Mine was clean and now it looks bad. I should sweep it up and maybe it would look better. I guess dh is working tom. all day. Sunday is our 34th anniversary so he better take me out for dinner or something. Mom's day is than also so he better. lol

Well, better get going and relax 'til later.

    Big Smile's

We are back in Iowa, have a lot put away, but it is a MESS around here...will get back to it in the morning.  We drove to Tucumcari the first night, 600 plus miles, then to Lincoln, NE, a bit over 600, and this morning we came to Iowa...stopped in Des Moines so we could go to Costco...the $100 store was closer to $150.

Cookie Baker, it is a beautiful trip, but long, you're right.

I love being in AZ, but it is good being "home" too.  Will check in again!

    Good morning everyone,

How's everyone doing?? Stayed home today, it's raining out. Dh is home also, he's working on his car right now...putting a muffler on or some such thing. Don't know much about them except where to put gas and drive them, lol Wink

Am getting my kitchen together, still, Smile  Going to shower, wash hair, and get the laundry going. Hope Dori is having a good time at her dd's graduation. alphy should be on her way back  to IA.

T is fishing this weekend so we have dgs. He got into my picks and was trying to pick his hair. It was kind of cute.

Ds#1 came home yesterday. He's through with his finals. I asked him and he has 2 more years to complete what he wants to be, a computer engineer. Sounds impressive. Glad he's getting his education to be what he wants to be. He's so quiet that a person has to drag info out of him. Geeked He's my nerd, lol.

Well I better jump into the shower and get going before everyone gets up. We only have 1 bathroom, and 5 adults and 1 child...Sad

    Take care. Big Smile

    Linda
