babyblu927:
my daughter is 8 and is already going through puberty. the dr said there was a shot to stop it but it was more for a social need than medical so that she wouldn't feel out of place with her other friends. we decided to get the shot but i would have to give it to her. i went to pick it up and they told me at the pharmacy that my insurance doesnt cover this particular medicine. I was like it's only 1 shot it shouldn't be to much i'll just pay it. Talk about sticker shock, 1 shot was $1200 per shot and she needed a shot every month until they wanted her to start puberty in 3 years.
Babyblue, unless the medication of that sort has changed in composition and they have done more research I would nOIT give your daughter the shot but talk to another doctor about it.
Don't laugh, but something like that came on the market in 1964-65 for DOGS. We lived in Alaska and I had a male and a B!tch Rottweiler. There was no way I could keep the male in the house at the time she was in season and it was in the middle of thewinter and c would have frozen to death outside. The Veterinarian recommended this NEW shot which would prevent the b!tch from coming into heat. It workled but, 2 yrs later, when we decided to have a litter of pups it was disaster. She aborted two pups, a thrid was a shrvelled up mummy and only three were b whelped healthy.
By that time we lived in WA and I swore I would never try something like that again.
I would be very leary about shots like that and would a LOT more research before decididng to do it on one doctor's word.
