    Prayer Circle For Sunday, May 11, 2008

    Greetings in our Lord! And Happy Mother's Day to all!

    We have a different type lesson today written by Micca Monda Campbell from the Proverbs 31 Ministries:

    Encouragement for Today

    May 9, 2008

    Mother of the Year

    Micca Monda Campbell

    "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her."

    Proverbs 31:28 (NIV)

    Devotion:

    I long to be a godly wife and mother, but my efforts to become this "ideal" woman stated in Proverbs can leave me grieved and depressed.

    I felt especially defeated the year my youngest son started kindergarten. In Tennessee, kindergarteners follow a scattered schedule the first two weeks of school where half of the class attends one day and the rest comes the following day. It helps them adjust. For me it brought confusion.

    On Tuesday, I took my son to school, kissed him good-bye, and headed home to work.

    I was busy at the computer when the telephone interrupted my pace. "Hello?"

    "Mrs. Campbell, this is Parker's teacher. I was wondering who would be picking him up from school today."

    Stunned that I had forgotten my child, I jumped in the car and raced to the school. He stood on the sidewalk holding his teacher's hand with tears in his eyes and REJECTION stamped across his heart. I took him home, apologized profusely, and made his favorite meal for dinner. I felt like the worst mother ever.

    Thursday, we returned to school. All was going well until I was, once again, interrupted by the phone. I had forgotten to pick up my child not once, but twice in the same week!

    I sped to school on two wheels. This time he was standing with the room mother, who was obviously a true Proverbs 31 Woman. As she helped him buckle his seatbelt, I tried explaining myself.

    "You're not going to believe this, but I did the same thing earlier this week."

    "Yeah, I know." She replied bluntly.

    I felt I’d been labeled a "bad mother," and I felt like a complete failure.

    Later that same year, God encouraged me as a mother when ParentLife magazine named me one of eight "Mothers of the Year!" Parker's reaction to this surprising news was, "If they lived with us for a while, they'd probably reconsider."

    Those were my thoughts exactly. In fact, I asked my husband how I could be given such a great and undeserving honor. With wisdom, he shared that maybe it was God's way of saying I'm doing better than I think.

    His wisdom helped me put things into perspective. God never said I had to be perfect. That was my expectation. He never said that I wouldn't make mistakes or a wrong decision every now and then. Again, that was my hope. I had assumed that the Proverbs 31 lady did everything right and I was suppose to as well. The problem was, with all her great accomplishments, I never considered her "not so good" side.

    Sometimes I let the bad out weigh the good. Perhaps the "Mother of the Year" award was God's way of saying, "Hang in there. You're doing better than you think, and I'm not the only one who notices."

    Despite my many mistakes, perhaps my children will some day arise and call me blessed.

    The next time you need encouragement, let God whisper to your heart: "I hear when you pray for your children, and I'm there when you teach them about who I am. I watch you love, care, and sacrifice for them. You’re not perfect, but hang in there. You're doing better than you think."

    Dear Lord, help me to be the mother my children deserve. Encourage my heart when I feel like a failure. Erase my errors from the hearts and minds of my children. Instead, help them to see Jesus in me, in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

    Grannyfay back:

    Praying each of you have a good Day!  If you still have your Mom with you, enjoy her, honor her!  And if you've lost your Mom, find someone else you can honor today.

    God Bless!

    Thank you - this reminded me of that old saying about how God is not finished with us yet.  Thank goodness!  Smile

     MY MOTHER’S BIBLE
    M. B. Williams, 1893

    There’s a dear and precious Book,
    Though it’s worn and faded now,
    Which recalls those happy days of long ago,
    When I stood at mother’s knee,
    With her hand upon my brow,
    And I heard her voice in gentle tones and low.

    Blessèd Book, precious Book,
    On thy dear old tear stained leaves I love to look;
    Thou art sweeter day by day, as I walk the narrow way
    That leads at last to that bright home above.

    As she read the stories o’er
    Of those mighty men of old,
    Of Joseph and of Daniel and their trials,
    Of little David bold,
    Who became a king at last,
    Of Satan and his many wicked wiles.

    Blessèd Book, precious Book,
    On thy dear old tear stained leaves I love to look;
    Thou art sweeter day by day, as I walk the narrow way
    That leads at last to that bright home above.

    Then she read of Jesus’ love,
    As He blessed the children dear,
    How He suffered, bled and died upon the tree;
    Of His heavy load of care,
    Then she dried my flowing tears
    With her kisses as she said it was for me.

    Blessèd Book, precious Book,
    On thy dear old tear stained leaves I love to look;
    Thou art sweeter day by day, as I walk the narrow way
    That leads at last to that bright home above.

    Well, those days are past and gone,
    But their memory lingers still
    And the dear old Book each day has been my guide;
    And I seek to do His will,
    As my mother taught me then,
    And ever in my heart His Words abide.

    Blessèd Book, precious Book,
    On thy dear old tear stained leaves I love to look;
    Thou art sweeter day by day, as I walk the narrow way
    That leads at last to that bright home above.

    Welcome SunnyNani! Glad you could join us!   Aw, yes, I'm a work in progress myself.  Just when I think He's surely got me shaped and fired and ready for the polishing, He slaps me back on the Potter's Wheel and here I go again!  But in spite of the pain, it's good because when He's done, I want to reflect His Glory!  Oops! Didn't mean to preach!  Hope you can join us again!

    Linda, loved that song--thanks!  I have my Mother's old Bible and it's very special to me!  To think I can read God's Word from the same Book she read from fills a special place in my heart. :)

    Well, Friends, our area just went under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.  It started to rain a little bit ago--just after I finished up putting the last Hosta in the ground. :)  So I probably need to close out and shut down for the night.

    God Bless!  Happy Mother's Day to All!

    What a great Mother's Day lesson!  I copied it and forwarded it to several friends.

    Wednesday night at prayer service our preacher told us he will be bringing a special message for Mother's Day re: "The greatest Mother there ever was"  meaning Mary, the mother of Jesus. He said  he will ask for volunteers to give a short testimony about their mother. At first I thought I would not take part because my mom was very critical of me and always seemed angry. However, she was an excellent seamstress and, although we did not have much money, she made sure I always had something nice to wear. She could not afford patterns and fabric so she looked in a popular catalog, found a dress we both liked and she would cut a pattern out of brown grocery bags. Most of my Sunday dresses were made from feed sacks but they were well made and looked very nice. My mom made sure I was in church every Sunday. She didn't send me, she took me. After giving more thought to what the preacher is going to ask us to do tomorrow I have decided to take part after all.

    Wishing all of you a very blessed Mother's Day.

    Hello dear ones...

    Hi SunniNani and welcome to the prayer circle.   Looking forward to seeing you again real soon.

    To all my sisters here who are moms....

    I most likely won't be here much,  if at all, tomorrow.   Church in the AM,  then we are driving out to take my mom out for lunch.  DD will be driving with us,  DS and his SO and her kids will be coming out also.   We are continuing our about 5-6 year tradition of going out for Chinese on Mothers Day.   Our whole family loves Chinese food and the Chinese places aren't half as crowded as the other restaurants on Mothers Day.  Win-win situation for us.

    JustCookin'.....your post brought tears to my eyes.  Not everyone's mother is warm and cuddly,  but that doesn't mean that she didn't love you and do the very best she could for you.   What brought the tears tho was seeing in your post that you realized that.....that you know she was doing her best for you,  and I'm sure it would make her very happy to know that.   Even if she didn't show it.    And she went with you to church.... that says a lot.   I wish I could hear you tomorrow.....reading your testimony touched me deeply.

    Happy Mothers day to you all.....whether you are celebrating being a mom or celebrating your own mom.....or both.

     Hi sisters! Welcome to the Prayer Circle  SunniNani!

    We had a nice day. We first visited my little mother. She was somewhat alert for a little while, but got very sleepy. It's so hard to converse with her. We stayed just a short time. Then we went to John's niece's down in Dwight, Il. and had a family Mother's Day celebration. John's mom has always been young for her years, but those years are catching up with her with a vengeance.

    Praying Mother's Day is special for you whether you are a mom or a special stepmom, or a grandma, if you are a mother figure to other people's children, if you still have your mom or are missing her. May God meet you where you're at.

     Oh how encouraging that was!  I am so glad I am not the only one in this world who had left a child or forgotten to pick up a child from school.  Life is hectic and distracting!

    Praying each of you have a wonderful day on Mother's Day.  I have a cold and terrible cough, so I am not going to church.  I got the main cake layers baked today and put in the deep freeze(don't tell msblueribbon, she may not approve) so now I just have the two side cakes to bake and more flowers to make.

    Please pray my cough will get better.

    MIL is gaining in strength every day it seems.  She can eat every meal at the table now and can walk around a bit in her house.  I think she even went to breakfast at the restaurant with friends today.  She had it all planned how she would support herself in the booth.

    I love to go to Washington - if only to be near my money.

     Kaye, tsk. tsk. Your baking secret is safe with me. Hope you feel better soon. We had those colds 3 weeks ago. Nasty.

    John and I are off to Rockford. Morgan's kids are being dedicated at church today. Please pray for us as we make this long trip in the driving rain. It's been POURING all night.

    Have a good mother's day!

    By the way, I was the child that the mother forgot to pick up. LOL! It was traumatic, but I somehow survived. I still love my mom.
