I need help QUICK with the Cake Bars

I did one of my famous tricks--just started putting things together without reading through the directions, then I see that the ingredients are supposed to be mixed in a certain order!  Will it hurt anything if I just "dumped" it all in together and mixed it?  Will they still be ok?  I need them for tomorrow morning!!!    ARRRRGH!

Most likely they'll be ok. Is it a cake mix recipe or does it have leavening in it? Usually when directions call for things to be mixed in a certain way, it's to ensure that they work together to provide the appropriate "rise" for the bars or cake. If you've got leavening or are using a mix, it should have enough to work even if you didn't exactly follow the directions. I am always really particular about mixing my Pound Cakes because most of them don't have anything other than eggs to make them rise, but Kathylu's cake (her Aunt Willora's) doesn't have leavening in it and she just dumps it all together and never has any trouble.

Can you post the recipe for us?

    Good Luck!

Sure, Star--thanks for the response--it is with a cake mix:

    1. 1/2 cup butter

    2.   1/2 cup packed brown sugar

    3. 2 tablespoons water

    4. 1 egg

    5. 1 (18.25 oz.) cake mix.  Calls for white but use your imagination of combinations.

    6. 1 cup chopped walnuts ( you can leave them out if you don't have any)

    7. 2 cups semisweet choc. chips ( or any kind that is a good combination with your cake mix.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. (175 degrees C.)  Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking pan.  In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.  Mix in water and egg, then stire in cake mix.  Finally, mix in nuts and choc. chips.  Spread mixture into pan.  Bake for 30 - 35 minutes   Cool copletely before cutting into bars.

Now my notes:  I have used white cake with mint chips and devils food with Reese peanut butter chips.

I plan on using a white mix with several differant mint and plain chips.  Use any good combination that you have..

This is from Montevideo from the Night Owls--Also, Kimsonmerk has made them and been very happy with them--of course, THEY followed the directions!!! LOL

I bet they'll be fine. If you have any effect at all, it'll be that they're just the tinest bit more dense than they would have been otherwise, but sometimes that makes for better bars...I prefer mine denser rather than "cakier".

Good luck and let us know how you like them, ok?

Re: I need help QUICK with the Cake Bars

Thanks, guys!  They're in the oven now, so we'll see!!! LOL  I made some other ones that Amirose gave me the recipe for--D-MIL says they're to die for, and BOY are they EASY!:

    1 cup peanut butter

    1cup sugar

    1 egg{LG}

    a bit of vanilla.

Mix a;; together, drop by tespoon on a nongreased baking sheet, bake for 10-12 minutes, transfer to cooking rack,  I love these things, I make them about bite size, so I can just go by and pop one in the mouth. but that is me.

I made about 7 dozen of these, brownies and now have the cake bars in the oven--for my blood drive tomorrow--hope I don't kill anyone--I'm no baker!!! LOL

Sydney would love the peanut butter drops. I've seen the "flourless" peanut butter cookie recipes a few times in the past but never tried them. They just look so easy, I'll have to do that while she's home on break. Thanks Miss Bonnie.

Good Luck with your baking....I bet you'll be a baker before you know it if you keep up doing the blood drive thing. :)

Well, this is my second blood drive, and the first one I'm baking for--I just hope I don't kill off too many folks with my attempts!  I can cook a meal, but baking has never been my thing!  Can you tell??? LOL
