gramofnine_MI:do your fences keep out human "critters" too
Gram, the fence around the vegetable garden is short enough for a human critter to step over, but high enough to keep out rabbits, which would otherwise eat everything in sight. Squirrels climb right over, but usually don't cause a problem -- they like to dig in the dirt. Over the weekend I saw a couple of birds outside the fence, trying to figure out how to get through the wire -- I wanted to explain to them that they should just fly up & over.
The back yard is totally enclosed by a chain link fence. It's not very attractive, but it belongs to the neighbors. We have almost no traffic through the back yard, where the vegetable garden is.
Your tomato plant sounds like it might do well -- good luck with it. (Are we going to see a picture?) And best of luck with your pre-surgery classes, and the upcoming knee replacemement. I hope your knee will be as good as new in a few months.
