    A Cleaning Remedy Needed

I have a Swifter WetJet that I use for our kitchen floor.  The cleaning solution is so expensive that I'm wondering if someone might have a home made remedy I could mix myself.  I'd appreciate any suggestions.

A friend of mine suggested I try some vinegar and water in mine. She has beautiful hardwood floors and she uses vinegar and water on hers.

I use vinegar and water too. It leaves a nice shine.

The 'cleaning solution' is probably white vinegar and water.  Check the bottle.  I use white vinegar, baking soda, and water to clean just about everything.

Be careful how often you use vinegar and water to clean hardwood floors.  A friend of mine used it to clean her floors and when she had to have them redone, the guy told her that the vinegar was stripping the finish off the floor - use it once in a while and for daily cleaning just use water.

Has anyone tried Borax and water?  Or Borax and lemon juice?

FWIW, GrandmaLou, I use one of those old-time Dust Mops to clean my Hardwood and Tile floors.  A few quick shakes of it outside and it's all clean and ready to go.  I think I paid $5 or $6 for it.  No cleaner needed and the mop head is machine washable.

    Just a thought.

Thank you for the replies. My kitchen floor is vinyl not hardwood. I would love to try the vinegar and water. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the ration of vinegar to water would be?

I used to have a WetJet but the whole system is expensive.  First the mop is around $20, then you need special swiffer pads, then you have to buy their solution.  I found it quite ridiculous.

I found a really neat item from Bissell called a FlipIt.  You can vacuum with one side and mop with the other, and it comes with microfiber cloths that are washable so you don't have to buy those Swiffer pads. It comes with their hardfloor cleaner, but when I run out of that I'll be using Mr. Clean in it.  Filling the tank is really simple.  I love it!
