Big Smile [:D] Price of flour?

Will the price of flour affect the amount of baking anyone does from now on?

I know it will for me, but then, I can live without baked goodies, I hit the deli a lot, and as I am alone, don't have to worry about anyone else.

Just curious about the flour thing tho, see rice is going higher also.  Foodstuffs of the world.

    Have a great day,

No, it won't affect how much I bake, as home baked good are still cheaper, healthier, and better.  I bake all my own bread.  Hmmm, maybe if I bought bread, my family would stop eating bread!

With Gold Medal now at $2.99 for 5 lbs., I probably won't change my baking habits but will try to make up the difference somewhere else, doing without a fancier ingredient perhaps.  The price of store-bought goods has risen too so that home-baked is still an advantage.

    Re: Price of flour?

Unbleached AP costs even more than bleached. I went to Walmart 75 mi away. My neighbors were going and offered me a ride. They are retired farmers and leased out around 5000 acres of wheat land.

Bob goes down to the cafe every day where some of the old guys get together for coffee and talk politics and farming. Bob told me today that wheat is up again a bit to a little over $11.00 bushel. Even though they will plant more spring wheat now  he says the price will not go down because of operating costs. Fertilizer and sprays (insectecides, fungicides, hrbecides) have doubled in price, that combined with the extremely high cost of diesel to operate all the giant farm machinery with means prices will most likely even go higher.

Than I heard the wonderful news on TV that the governement figures infaltion only by the price incrases of DURABLE goods such as lawn mowers, washing machines and other appliances, cars, bikes, and such but Governement does NOT figure in the price increases of food and fuel.

No wonder SS checks only go up by a few measely bucks per year. Mine increased by $13.00 p mo, that doesn't even buy a  small mini  ham.

If you think times are tough now, just wait.............
