Need help from anyone living along I90 in SD

Once again I need help from by BB friends.  I am working on our cross country trip and need to know the availability of motels along I90 between Mitchell & Wall.  Preferably not more than 100 miles out of Mitchell.  A motel name would be WONDERFUL since I need to make reservations.  If there is anyone out there with this kind of info I would be forever indebted.

Thank you!   Thank you!  Thank you!       Brenda

Good luck! That's pretty sparsely populated. You might find something in Chamberlain (which is on the Missouri River).

When are you planning on going?  Just remember that it is impossible to get any reservations within 100 miles during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally - most of those rooms are booked up a year in advance.  I lived in R.C. for 20 years and I don't advise going there without reservations. (during tourist season)

Re: Need help from anyone living along I90 in SD

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this post.  It has been a very busy couple of days for me.

Aashlee,  Thanks for your quick response.  I knew it was rather desolate out that way and that's why I was looking to those of you in the area to help me out.  You didn't let me down.  I found a room at the Comfort Inn in Chamberlain.

Thanks to you, too, purseglove, for all the helpful info.

GmawMary, we are leaving home sometime toward the end of June.  I think the mc rally is in August so we are well ahead of that.  I've also found a motel in RC.  I think we will stay in that area a couple of days.  Any good restaurants you would recommend?

luv2can, we will be stopping in Wall at the drug store but, need to move on into RC to stay a few days.  I like the soft water, too.  Maybe I'll be lucky enough to have the soft water where we are staying.

    BB's, y'all are the best.

We will be moving on to Yellowstone area after RC.  It looks like we will have to stay in the Riverton area.  I refuse to pay $250+ for a motel room and that seems to be the going rate for that area

Although the area is sparsely populated, it is BEAUTIFUL country. In Chamberlain, notice how the land changes right after you cross the Missouri. On the east bank, it's pretty flat. On the west bank, the land starts to really roll. It's kind of cool if you're into geology.

There's some pretty good home cookin' at Wall Drug. It's a glorified, rinky-dink tourist trap, but I thought it was fun.

I haven't been out that way in a while. We really want to get back to the Black Hills. We actually went during Sturgis weekend, but we stayed in Custer, well away from the "festivities." It wasn't crowded at all.

    Have a great trip!

     Rapid City

Down in Hill City there is a quaint little restaurant called the Alpine Inn.  They serve filet mignon (a small or a large) with a baked potato, wedge of lettuce and Texas toast - very reasonable.  And then there are the desserts - fabulous desserts!!  There was a place in RC called the Chop House - it was quite good.  We haven't been back for a few years, though.

luv2can -  not sure we will make it up to Cody but will make a note about the Irma Hotel just in case we do.
