ISO: Is there a prior thread for Cake Mix Cookies recipes with flavor variations? If so, can you post it for me PLEASE?

I just saw an interesting post:

"Has anyone had any luck with Cake Mix Cookies?"

     http://community.tasteofhome.com/forums/t/647560.aspx

Sometimes I like to have a cookie, but I don't always have time to make them completly from scratch, so, that post got me to wondering if there was a thread with recipes/flavor variations.  I did a quick search and found a few threads with a recipe, but not a compiled list.  There may be one, so if there is, can you point me to it?   If NOT, can you post your recipes and/or flavor combination varations here please. THANK YOU!

Hello, Beecuzican, I've often meant to write you and tell you how much I like your name.  I wish I could have thought of something clever like that!

Several years ago, a neighbor brought some cake mix cookies to a neighborhood function and I got interested in them and looked up recipes for them.  I think this site was the focus of my search, in fact.  My searching turned up these flavor combinations, which I have already posted on recipezaar; so these have come in handy twice!

    Lorraine:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for posting them here as well and for sharing your research.  I have had them a few times and always liked them, but was looking for different combinations and sometimes I'm afraid to try some combinations I can think of so I look to see if someone else trie them.

I never thought to try the Funfetti without adding anything...another "duhhh" moment I guess, especially since my daugher LOVES the funfetti cake.

Would you be able to post your FAVORITE recipe for them since?  I have several, but have not really found a favorite yet and just keep trying new ones.

And as for my name...it's silly really how it came to be, but I have a friend for many years now and I can do anything to him or say anything to him that I want, and it's all okay...anyone else did or said it, look out, but for me it's okay...he says I am just "unique" and do things and think differently than most people he knows, but often used to ask "why" I do or say things to him like I do and I never really knew and I would reply "becuase I can", so when I was looking for a name for my new email, it was one of those days and thus...beecuzican came to be (the extra "e" in "bee" becuase it said the other name was taken) and then I just decided to keep it the same for the BB.  Hope that didn't bore you.

    THANKS AGAIN!

    Hi, again, Beecuzican,

I don't really have a favorite one of these cookies.  I have few occasions to make them and so I want to try a different one each time.  The next one I try will be chocolate with Andes mint chips and pecans.  I think that will be a winner as I do like the soft peppermint flavor of Andes. There are so many things you can add to these cookies I don't see how you can go wrong with any combination.  In addition to the ones I named above, there are: the chocolate raspberry chips (YUM), craisins, M&M mini baking pieces, Skors toffeee bit, other nuts like macadamia, and any other chips that I neglected to mention.  I went over to the Duncan Hines site and noticed they added 1/2 cup peanut butter or an 8-ounce container of plain or vanilla yogurt, reducing the butter to 2 tablespoons which is a healthy alternative.  They give a recipe for Spicy Oatmeal Raisin cookies using Spice cake mix, 4 egg whites, 1 cup uncooked quick-cooking oats, 1/2 cup vegetable oil and 1/2 cup raisins.  I'm an oatmeal cookie person so that goes high on my to-list. Another is Snickerdoodles:  yellow cake mix, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 3 Tbsp. sugar, 2 large eggs and 1/4 cup vegetable oil.  The cinnamon and sugar are used to roll 1-inch balls of dough in.   And I want to go through the thread Dutchmom posted.  Looks like there's some new ideas there.  If I were still teaching, I'd be making these cookies all the time!

I'm back.  I was just at Amazon and guess what?  Someone has written a cookbook full of these recipes.  The title:  Cake Mix Cookies:  More than 175 Delectable Cookie Recipes that Begin with a Box of Cake Mix  by Camilla V. Saulsbury.  Prices start at $10.23.   The author also wrote a cookbook of recipes that start with a Brownie Mix.  Just thought you'd like to know!

Thanks. Sounds like a handy book to have. Just to let you know that I tried the cake mix oatmeal cookies and they are really pretty good. I think they could use more raisins or maybe 1/2 chopped nuts too. So easy and very tasty. This is the Duncan Hines recipe I used. Oh and I combined the dry ingredients first, whipped together the oil and egg (used eggbeaters) and then mixed all. Worked great.

    Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Wholesome oatmeal cookies with the sweet goodness of raisins all come together in this spicy batter––there's a taste of home in every bite.

Servings: Makes about 4 dozen cookies.

    • 1 pkg Duncan Hines® Moist Deluxe® Spice Cake Mix

    • 4 large egg whites

    • 1 cup uncooked quick-cooking oats

    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

    • 1/2 cup raisins

    1.   Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease cookie sheets.

    2.   Combine cake mix, egg whites, oats and oil in large mixing bowl. Beat at low speed with electric mixer until blended. Stir in raisins. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets.

    3.   Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets. Remove to cooling racks; cool completely.

Lorraine, I thought maybe you had one favorite and just made the variations.  I found several of them that are similar but not exact and wasn't sure which one to try first.

The Andes sounds great.  My daughter loves mint too.

I think I like just aobut all that you listed and I will add them to my variations list.  Thank you.

WOW, a whole book?  I'll have to see if the local library has a copy so I can see if it's worth buying one or if most of the recipes have already been posted here.  Brownie Mix too?  Hmmmm.  I LOVE brownies.

(Can you tell I'm a dessert person?)

Thanks for letting us know you tried the oatmeal raisin cookies and for your review, Ladybugo!  It is always better when there is a review to look at.

    Take care!
