Does anyone own a room air conditioner?

I am not talking a window A/C.  I have seen ads about the room A/C's that sit in a room.  We have an older home, and in some of the rooms, the windows and outlets do not line up.  I do not want to use an extension cord due to possible over heating.  Do any of you own a free standing A/C?  If so, do you like it?

Yes, I do.  I love it.  One of the things I like most is the portability.  It worked great!

They work great.  But you do still need to vent it out the window with the hose provided. 

Here at work the Airman set it up and it was nice and cool coming out the front.  Out the back, where the exhaust came out, was like 100.  So we were more or less cooling the front of the room and heating the back of the room.  LOL  Guess where I sit.  Guess where he sits.  LOL

Peanut, good point about still having to vent it out the window.  Mine does that two but lucikly it only takes 2 or 3 inches of window space instead of the whole window.

My sister has one and she loves it!  

I have one.  It works great for my bedroom.  And it will be put to the test tonight--we're supposed to hit 95 degrees today.

Thanks for your input.  I think I will go shopping for one.  Do all of you have to vent your's out a window?  Do you have a certain brand you prefer?  We have been on the cool and wet side for the month of May.  I am not ready for 95º weather yet.  I love spring and fall, but they seem to be such short seasons!

I vent mine out the window.  I bought one of those dryer vents at Home Depot and set it in the window and hook the a/c hose to it.  Then, I fill the gap with a piece of plywood.
