    Weekender 05/17 - 05/18

Good Morning everyone and I'm hoping all of you enjoy a wonderful restful weekend.   I have no special plans for the weekend.  I have a load of never ending laundry and an appointment for hair color this afternoon,  didn't take me long to cover those roots again.

We have a beautiful day here, our days are still cooler than normal and nights are in the high 40's but I'm sure it won't be long until we can look back and wish for temps like this

NPat, Enjoy your cruise and have a safe trip.   I think it is so nice that you have offered to go help Shirley if she has the knee replacement.

I know Viny has had a busy week but I hope he rest this week end since he will be returning to work Monday,  hope your foot is better.

Lusi, how is your foot?   Did you hear from the xrays?

Verna, no dishes,  that is unreal to think they just disappeared.  Are you almost to the stage of having all the boxes unpacked?   I like your advise of getting rid of things,  this is a goal I'm going to work on,  so much that I have, I don't use anymore and DS doesn't want it so I really need to start moving it out of the house.

Maureen & Barb,  I'm sure you are working in the yard,  have a good day.  JoAnn, you have been busy all week, maybe it will be a restful day for youl

    Shirley, have a good day.

    Good morning Marti and friends,

It's so nice to see you here so early, Marti, hopefully, that means you're feeling better.  It looks like it will be a restful weekend here.  I did hope to get the wave petunias in today, but it's already raining and they are predicting thunder storms today, tomorrow and then rain till Wednesday.  I have a few loads of laundry I can do and some paper work.  The only thing I have to go out for is my big list grocery shopping.  Although I don't like to do it on Saturday,  this week has just flown by with too much to do to fit in the shopping.

Marti, the picture you put on the BB looks like another beautiful section of your landscaping.  I wish I knew a way to enlarge it.  My landscaping is so basic and Frank and I are still learning how to plant and what to plant.  I would love to have your talent for design landscaping.  I could just picture my back yard having walkways and beautifully designed areas, but don't know where to start and don't think I would have enough years to complete it.  We don't need all of the grass anymore.  The kids made good use of it and so do the trips, but not often enough to keep it all grass for that reason.

NPat, have a safe and fun filled cruise.  We'll be waiting to hear from you when you get back. Tell us all, especially those of us who don't travel, all about it.

Have to finish my shopping list now, so that when Frank gets back from his officer's meeting we can get that taken care of.  Luckily everything is close by.  He'll drop me at the grocery store and then go to the nursery for the things he still wants.

Looking forward to a quiet and comfortable weekend.  Hope yours is too.  Take care and God bless. Jo Ann

Hello all....We have nice clear pleasant weather here this morning, although I'm sure it will get quite warm this afternoon.  No real plans for today other than going to Target and see if there's anything I can't live without for the cruise.  The big discussion around here is whether to pack my coat in the suitcase or look silly carrying it at DFW airport on Tuesday!  I'll probably end up packing it and hoping the weather is ok in Vancouver when we get there.

Have any of y'all used the RCA Small Wonder video recorder? I got one a while back but really haven't used it much. Am wondering if it would be worth taking with me or just use my digital camera.

Still kind of quiet around here this morning, so I'll check back later.  Pat

Just a quick note this morning.  We are on our way to town to get some more plants.  It's going to be hotter today than yesterday so must get things done early.

Good to see you here Marti.  Sounds like you are feeliing better.

JoAnn, maybe Marti will email you some pictures of her beautiful home.  And her yard is amazing.

NPat, we don't have a video recorder ....well, my new digital camera records but since I'm not one to read instructions, I don't know how to do it.

You all have a good day and I will try to come back later.

    Good morning friends

Pat my opinion on the video recorder is this " I spent so much time taking picture and movies years ago that I missed out in just enjoying the sights myself. JMHO

Does that make sense to you? Waldo wouldn't use either unless I wanted a picture of myself standing by something special.  Many times you can purchase a video (CD now I’m sure)

I really appreciate you offer to be my nurse but I will be going to a rehab center for a couple weeks.

My house is poorly set up with bathrooms located up and down stairs from the main level.

I will need to be able to do stairs before I come home. My YDD isn't working just now so she will be able to help me when I get home. I think it is so nice for you to offer. Thank you.

Have a safe and wonderful time on your cruise.

I'm leaving in a few minutes to pick up a friend. We are going to the spring senior luncheon at church.

I'll be back to check on everyone later in the day.

    Shirley

Hi everyone.  Saturday is alsmost gone here.   I have been a busy lady cleaning today and getting Ari's room back in shape.  I have a choir trip to Estonia next weekend, and won't have time to do it then.  Ari comes on the 29th.   Leo went out to the cabin, so I have been riding my bike all over today.   The hills are getting easier.

Glad to see Marti sounding more like herself.   Shirley, that's smart to go to a rehab center.  My BIL just did that for his hip replacement surgeries (He had them both done!)  They have an old house with the bathroom on the second floor, so this was just the thing for him.   It was a lot easier on my sister, too.   He said he was able to rest better there without feeling guilty about bothering any family members for help.

Well, I need to get some work done, so I am off.  have a good day!  lusi

Good afternoon everyone.  Hope you are all having a good day.  Got to sleep in this morning and that was nice.  I still would like to take a nap!  I must have spring fever!!

Not much going on here.  Habitat for Humanity came and got several boxes of stuff and the glass shower doors and tracks.  Also sent a large shelving unit made of paticle board...glad to get that heavy thing out of the way.  I have several more boxes for CCA of household goods, tupperware etc and probably will take that myself as it's not enough to need a truck.  Glad to get that out of the way.  My SS friends that are moving in a couple of weeks are coming in a few minutes to get the boxes that are broken down...that will help empty out the garage too.  And who knows....I may even find those elusive dishes!

If I can figure out how to do it, I'll move Viny's post over here.  Glad to have him check in on the weekend...sounded like he's been busy...as usual!

Marti, I got the newspaper articles you sent.  I've only scanned them...will read more closely later.  Donna and I are already trying to figure how we can consolodate our packing for Hawaii since I need to take the mountain of paperwork with me....I don't trust this attorney to have it all together...such a shame that I've done all the leg work and he gets all the money....or at least more than I think is his fair share...but I'll be prepared for sure!

OK...got lots to do before they come for the boxes.  Yard man is here now....the lawn was beginning to get a bit shaggy.  It will look so nice when he's done.

    I'll check back later.

Here's Viny's post from this morning.

    Healthy Choices weekend 05/17-18/08

Good morning everyone looks like it will be a very nice weekend weather wise 58º already and clear skies. Finally finished planting the garden have 3 pumpkin plants that I am saving for the 3 GDs to plant and they want to put in watermelon so we will try them from seed but might be a little late for that.

The boys came out about 6pm last night to spend the weekend we all went out for supper and ate outside on the veranda of local Italian restaurant, YGS and I had Italian beef poorboy sandwich they were hug very good but could only eat half of it, that will be lunch for today.

Verna I have one of the paraffin pots and it works great but right now I think its with your dishes but the pain meds have been working. Your right about throwing things away we must have about 20 boxes of stuff in the pole barn to go through yet and some that I have opened I wonder what I even packed it for. LOL I bet half this stuff could be tossed or garage sales. Have thought about stopping by the old place to see if they would let me take a couple of Rhubarb plants just have not been in that area lately.

I think the cruse get together would be great would be nice to get out of the cold weather and meet everyone next winter.

Well I hear the boys moving around so I better get out there and make breakfast for them there easy to please pancakes are there favorite morning meal.

Have a nice weekend and God bless.

    Hello weekend group,

It's very dark and windy here with a little rain and thunder off and on.  Nothing severe, but just enough to keep you indoors.

Barb, Marti did send me some pictures of her house and landscaping.........WOW.......I told her that If I lived there, I would never want to move.  It's just beautiful.  I don't know how she does all the work it must take to keep up with it.  I love the walkways, well, I just love the whole thing,

I hope you and your friend, enjoyed the luncheon at church today, Shirley.  Most of my friends are like you and take lots of pictures.  Frank and  I have a camera and never take it anywhere.  lol ..Neither one of us likes taking pictures and then I feel bad sometimes because I think of all of the great ones we could have had.  I wish one of us was a picture taker.

Shirley, thanks for moving Viny's post.  I didn't even see it before.  Viny, I think we all accumulate way too much stuff.  I'll bet if those 20 boxes vanished, you would never miss them. LOL  We have way too much stuff too, but in this house, I like to get rid of things and, unfortunately, Frank is a collector.  He always thinks he might need something he hasn't used in years, so, just in case, he keeps everything.  Ugh!!!

I'm trying really hard to keep eating healthy foods.  I'm still not counting points, but I know what to eat and what not to.  I know the journaling does help, though.  I have to get all of my books out from WW that I have put away and start all over.  I was doing it so well at one time, I knew lots and lots of thing by their point value.  I'll have to learn it all over again, since it just slipped right out of my mind.  LOL  I am drinking water and getting in the dairy and fruit, but there's nothing like putting it down on paper to see the actual numbers.  I'll get my books, journals, and point counter out tomorrow and find a place to keep them.  The place I used to keep them in, is now occupied by my coupons and holders, scissors, and shopping lists.  Maybe I'll have to find a new place for that stuff and replace it with the WW info.  It was convenient to have it all there before.

    See you later.  Jo Ann

    Re: Weekender 05/17 - 05/18

It’s late, but I’m here.   Most of you are probably fast asleep.    This time of the year moves too quickly for me – too much to be done in too little time.

Plus I needed to help Kim on Friday as she has ½ acre with a very little front lawn, so you know there is a very large area in the back.   I had sprayed Round-Up a couple of weeks ago on the hillsides and where I knew foxtails would be growing.   This has never been put to lawn and was graded last summer, so it is all weeds and we had to get it under control.   She has rocky soil so we hunted for any big rocks sticking up and then she mowed with the mower set pretty high.   The way it’s graded is really crazy – there is the level off the patio and then another level off to one side with even a third level out from that one.    Kim crunched some rocks near the end but she didn’t kill her mower.   Thank goodness yesterday was cooler than today – we couldn’t have lasted all day out there.   That girl hasn’t learned to put sunscreen on when starting outside work – doesn’t do a whole lot of good to put it on at 2 pm.   I saw red on her shoulders by 3 pm and she had the nerve to ask me if maybe her sunscreen was outdated – that obviously was not the problem.Huh?    I had sunscreen and a hat on from the start.    Today we went over again (DH and myself) to help her get a 3 piece sofa set out to the shed.   DH was so nice to take apart the computer table (it’s a huge thing) and take that to the shed too.    I mowed the lawn and really don’t know what all I did – I remember shuttling Ava to the library to get some more books and DVD’s and also took her over to my house for some Gatorade.   DH and I were exhausted since both of us stayed up late last night.   I thought I was even too tired to go out for dinner, but when he suggested, I forced myself.   Actually feel much better now.   Tomorrow will be the day to get the garden planted – finally!   I spent some time this afternoon getting annuals in some pots out front.   Tomorrow I want to make a trip to the nursery for some more plants.

Shirley, I bet you could take that rose back to the nursery – even if you could only get a credit.   $40 is huge – I balk at spending $25 for a rose bush.   On the surgery, I think rehab is an excellent idea.

Vammie, your idea to get rid of things we don’t need is so right-on.   I did get rid of tons of storage containers last week.   Why do we keep them so long?   It’s insane!

Marti, I’m sorry you’re going through all this implant stuff – sounds nasty.

Sounds like maybe Viny does need to go back to work to take it a bit easier.

Lusi, you have to be getting excited about Ari coming home.

NursePat, have fun on the cruise – hoping the weather will be nice.   I need to look and see what’s predicted.   The high pressure ridge is all the way up there and that’s why we are all so warm.   That means all the rain will go into Alaska – what there is of it.

Jo Ann, I think I had all my annuals on the front porch for about 3 weeks waiting for the weather to get ok.   Sounds like Frank is more the gardener or maybe he likes buying.

Hi, Barb, curious to see what you bought today.

I have a Phlox plant under a window on the south side of the house and I want something bigger, so need to brainstorm and think about what I want there.   I have a Rose of Sharon on that same side and I think that might be the perfect answer.   A Lilac would be beautiful there, but I would really have to be diligent about keeping it trimmed.   All those we have along 1 fence are now about 8 to 10 ft. tall – after they’re finished blooming, I really need to get them shorter.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.   I’m going upstairs to read and enjoy this beautiful evening.   I think low 90’s is predicted for tomorrow and today had to be in the high 80’s.

    Re: Weekender 05/17 - 05/18

Good Morning everyone.  Viny, I didn't see your post when I started yesterday, we were posting at the same time.  I hope you had a productive weekend and will be ready to get back to your routine next week to rest. lol

Maureen, you make my back hurt, what a day you had but I'm sure Kim was glad to have all the help to get her yard in order.  I bet Kim has a sore back today too, probably not as much from work as the sun.  It's hard to do everything without any help and so expensive to pay someone to do it for you.  You mentioned the Rose of Sharon,  is that also called the Confederate Rose?  I have two CRose's but the don't do well without lots of sun and bloom very late in the summer so I was thinking of tossing them this year. They are beautiful where there is lots of sun, but they are also very aggressive growers and will take over a space if left alone.  Does the Helbros grow there?  They are also very aggressive, but not under my trees and have been blooming since January. I have the white and am looking for the dark pink.

Lusi, I know you are so excited with Ari coming home for the summer.  I hope you were able to get his room in shape, once he's there you'll never know you did a thing.  Seems that nothing is ever in place when they bring home all those clothes. With Leo at the cabin, you  probably have all your work done.  What is your weather there?

Barb, confess, what did you buy yesterday?  I know you had to find some bargains, could it have been plants?

Verna, What a mess, having to cart that paperwork with you, but like you, I wouldn't trust the lawyer to have everything.  It's such a shame you pay an attorney so much and you are the one doing all the leg work.  I remember with DS divorce, he was told because he had done so much of the leg work it was a certain amount of $, but had he not done that it would have been $$$. It's a shame we can't handle our own cases.  Thanks for the advise on tossing things, my first priority will be the boxes of tupperware that I rarely use and I even have new pieces. It seem when you work there was always a co worker selling the stuff and you felt guilty if you didn't buy and after all the years of working I accumulated way too much.  I also have tons of freezer containers that I'm going to toss, I've decided to offer my sisters the trunks that belonged to our parents, they didn't want them when we cleaned out the house, but maybe now,  I just can't toss them but would like them to stay in the family.  DS has taken so much from DH's family that I know he will say "no more" Why or why am I so sentimental when it comes to family things when in years to come no one will care.

Shirley, I agree the rehab. will be your best choice, with no bath downstairs, you will do much better.  You will get the much needed therapy and more hours of therapy at rehab than home health care.  I know you aren't looking forward to this surgery but you will do well and feel so much better without the pain everyday.  Are you still planning to wait until fall to have this done.

Rain is predicted this afternoon, I'll need to look for something to read this afternoon, we get two papers on Sun. and I was up at 5:30 and have both of them read.   Need to wake DH so we won't be late for Church. I missed SS this morning because he didnt think he could sit through both services.

    Enjoy your day

    Marti

Good Sunday afternoon....It's gotta be 90 here!  Shorts, tshirt and flip-flops.

I sure had trouble getting intothe TOH site to post. Tried before church and after lunch. But apparently it wasn't just me--I emailed y'all and some were having the same problems. Wonder what was going on?

I'm making progress with packing!  Tossed a pack of underwear and a pack of sock in the suitcase last night!  Stay tuned for updates.

    Good afternoon friends,

I didn't go to church this morning. I put in a terrible night with leg cramps and never got out of bed until 9 0'clock this morning.

Holley (ODD) is home today so we went to the mall. She was looking for some pants for work.

They can only wear kaki or beige but are allowed to wear capris in the summer.

She said we wouldn't be long but we were there two hours. My legs were killing me. Especially when I was just standing waiting while she was trying things on.

As a treat we had lunch at Uno's. We both love the Cheddar Cheese and Broccoli soup.

I guess that's it for the day. ~~~So yummy ~~~but so fattening.

Tomorrow morning I will start walking the mall again with Ruthie.

Maureen you certainly did work hard a Kim's.

I wanted to plant today but it is raining and miserable.

I hope I can get into see the Dr. later this week. I have the bone scan on Tuesday afternoon.

I hate to but I am going to get the surgery scheduled for as soon as possible. Waiting and thinking about it while having so much pain just doesn't make sense.

Marti would you send me the pictures of your yard? I don't remember receiving them.

Lusi I just know you are excited about Ari coming home. I'm exciting my grandson Christopher is coming over later. I haven't seen him since our birthday party get together earlier last month.

JoAnn I love taking pictures. I am a nut when it comes to keeping them in albums, too.

You can pick a year and I can show the special times in pictures.

It’s strange because I’ve been like that from a very early age. I think my mother was the same way now that I think about it. I have several of our family albums.

Viny it sounds like you had a nice weekend with the boys. Those pancakes sure sound good. No wonder I struggle with my weight ~~~I love all the yummy things.

    Have a nice evening.   Shirley

I had the same problem Pat did earlier.  I even posted an entire entry and then lost the connection and don't know where that post ended up. I couldn't get back on this BB for the rest of the day till now.

Maureen I wanted to tell you that we have  Rose of Sharon growing along the back of the house. We have a walk out basememt in the back, so that makes the back of the house two stories high.  The Rose of Sharon, grow up to the windows in the family room and it's so pretty seeing those beautiful flowers through the windows.  What's even more fun, though, is watching the hummingbirds darting in and out of each bloom.hummingbird  They just love those flowers.  Do your Rose of Sharon attract hummingbirds too?

Shirley, I made your recipe for Shrimp Marinara today.  It's become one of our favorites.  Every time I make it, I have to take some over for Mom.  Thanks again for such a good recipe.

Don't remember what else I wrote in my first post, but have to clean up from dinner.  Hope everyone has had a nice weekend.  God bless. Jo Ann

    Re: Weekender 05/17 - 05/18

Hello everyone...just getting here today.  It was a church-filled day.  I got up and went to the early service at 8 and then to SS afterwards.  We are having a silent auction to raise money for our mission in Mozambique so I wandered around looking at the wares and put bids on three items...we'll see if I was the highest bidder.  I also signed up to help with Vacation Bible School and had to go to meetings this afternoon about that.  I will be working in the Haven...we have two Havens--an active one and a quiet one.  It's where the VBS workers can come for a break and have a cold drink and/or snack.  The quiet Haven is for those that have overload on noisy children and the active haven is for conversation etc while snacking.  So while I'm not teaching etc, I will be performing a service for the other workers.  Think this will be fun.

It is nice and toasty outside today.  Sunshine and no clouds, gentle breeze but quite warm.  Not a good day to be working in the yard!  Maureen, sounds like you really had a full day yesterday....don't know where you get your energy.  Kim is very lucky to have you close by.  Sounds like a yard from he__!  It will take years to get it tamed.

I'm taking a day off from unpacking etc.  I just need to do nothing!  The upcoming week is quite busy with errands or appointments every day...sometimes two or more per day.  On Tuesday, the groomer is coming to fix Miss Molly and she really needs her bath and haircut etc.  She is quite the shaggy dog!  My friend Donna is coming from NC late Wednesday.  Her DGD graduates from high school here on Saturday so she will stay with me a couple of days and help get things put into place.  I need to make a run to the storage unit and get some of those boxes here for unpacking...but if I can't, she can help me get the garage in better order...Things just need to be put in a proper place instead of the hodge-podge they are in now.

I'm off to start dinner but will try to check back later this evening.  Hope you all have a wonderful evening.

    vammie
