    Dispel the Rumors

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/fightthesmearshome/

Check this website before you forward e-mail rumors to your friends. It was set up

by the Sen. Obama Campaign to dispel the rumors floating around the Internet

about Sen. Obama and his wife Michelle. Thanks.

    Thanks FourthTry.

Blindly forwarding propaganda without checking the facts first is foolish and dangerous.

"In Europe we thought of wine as something as healthy and normal as food and also a great giver of happiness and well being and delight. Drinking wine was not a snobbism nor a sign of sophistication nor a cult; it was as natural as eating and to me as necessary." --- Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast.

I am always gobsmacked when someone posts one of these outrageous stories (and not only pertaining to polititians either).  When called on it, the person invariably excuses it by saying "Well, I got it in an email"!!  Like that makes it true.Angry

You are absolutely right. They act like it's okay to pass on rumors and lies because

somebody else sent them the e-mail. That just doesn't make sense. But probably the

people who need to check this website would rather have the rumors circulate. Ha Ha

There's people right here who like to spread rumors and lies about me without knowing or showing all the facts.
I don't know how they can look at themselves in the mirror.

Could there really be that there's a politician that never lied to the people? Hmm

Exactly. He's already lied about how the campaign would be funded.

    Bluelady91:

Okay -- 2 posts = Bluelady91 -- I'll see your allegation, and raise you... how do you know the Republican smear machine is telling you the truth? Afterall, they have the most to gain by deceiving the voters, right?

Mind you now, the same Republican tactics being used against Obama today, were used so successfully by Bush to smear Gore, and even McClellan AND McCain -- two decorated and injured war heroes back in 2000... and they were members of his own party! The lies were reformulated and repeated to cast doubts on Kerry with the swiftboat attacks of 2004. Get my drift?

The groups that send out these 'informative' emails are they same ones that target minority voters, telling them they can't vote, or they have to vote on a different day. Or gays are going to invade their churches and we're all going to be wearing burkas... did I miss anythin?g

Pay close attention to the emails you get. They contain no references where you can validate their outrageous claims, no proof, no facts -- not that the typical Republican voter is likely to do any cross checking -- but then the rightwing groups that have targeted you as a gullible patsy, count on that statistic holding true to form when they make their ridiculous statements. Read those emails carefully; note the carefully worded phrases that often end in a question mark... does that serve its purpose to plant a little seed of doubt in your mind? Next, identify the innuendos, the speculation and the cleverly pharsed personal opinions... now what remains?

If you find Obama's statements wanting, and remain unconvinced after viewing the visual evidence he provides to stop the rumor mill, then use Google to assuage your skepticism. Seek your truth from  any of the hundreds of news articles which have appeared in every major print and broadcast media outlet -- with the possible exception of Fox -- in the country, all of them saying the same thing as Obama.

    Um… no, not exactly.

You can hunt for Obama original statement, but in essence his accepting of public financing limits was contingent upon the candidates reaching some sort of agreement along these lines curbing or eliminating funding and support for 527 attacks.

Obama's lawyer discussed this issue with McCain's lawyer, but there was no meeting of the minds. McCain campaign was unwilling to rein in 527 spending, and McCain said that he can't be a "referee" for his 527 attack groups, so without a basis for further discussion, Obama opted out.
