    Canadian Corner 27/06/08

    Good Morning CC Friends

Lots of fog this morning after the T/Storm last night and another hot and humid day. Yuck.

Alot of people will have taken Monday off to make it a long weekend so productivity will be down I'm sure.

Slave day for me and doing lunch with a friend today. Think we are doing Chinese oh well won't have to worry about dinner.

The price of oil has hit a new high again - so we will get hit at the pumps again. Yesterday I got gas at $1.31 and last night on my walk it had gone up 3 cents. I remember when it was $40 a barrel and people were hitting the roof when it got to $60. a barrel, now its $141.00 .

Ann praying for good results on Wednesday, Cathy you seem to be a going concern with a sore foot. Good thoughts for anyone else that is under the weather.

YF-when are you planning on going North? Don't imagine you plan on going with a long weekend coming on. The roads will be very busy this weekend so anyone travelling please be safe.

    Everyone have a great Friday

    Good Morning Crea and Friends,

Yes it will be a hot, humid day crank up the a/c and mor T/Storms are on the way.

Crea, we are leaving early Sunday morning by then we figure most people would have left for their holiday destination on Fri/Sat. We don't use on the 400 series of highways, taking the back roads it's much safer.

What are we going to do with the price of gas rising and rising. How are we going to get around, this is crazy, I won't be able to afford to go to work anymore.  Most of my clients live out of town.

Thanks Cathy for the advise on my puter, it worked and it was so easy. I appreciate your help.

    YF

We have puddles again this morning.  There's more showers/rain forecast for today and tomorrow.  There is an advantage to holding our market in the parkade under a 'roof'.

I will spend today doing a long list of get ready errandsand then tonight will be double checking the packing.  We always manage to leave something behind the first market or two.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the upcoming holiday weekend.  Safe travels to all on the roads.  Watch out for the other drivers as well.      Pat

Thanks for the heads up on the strawberry cake Cathy.  I'll give it a go when I pick some strawberries.

Claire, snail mail outgoing this morning.  I found the playhouse article.

good morning Crea and YF! hot day ahead,  my granddaughter is sleeping over, so i think we will hit the pool today for sure!!

yesterday, DH and i made 62 pints of strawberry jam. phew! i am glad that is done!  we did not finish up until 9:30 last night. my granddaughter was really loving it, and sat and listened to the jars pop!!

we had planned to go to market today, but in the frenzy of the jam, we forgot to get the car seat out of my DILs car. i have a car seat, but not a booster seat for an older child. so, we will stay put and go to town tomorrow instead. DIL is coming after work, and staying the night with us.

price of gas........i dunno where it will end. i noticed in the newspaper, you can get a heck of a deal on a SUV.  since i live out in the sticks, i do not do alot of driving, never have. i go to town once a week, too busy here to run the roads. lol

we took our two dogs to the vets yesterday. my big boy weighs 102 LB. and my little guy, 14 LB. they had their shots and nails clipped. it was a good trip. my big dog is not fond of the car, and the little guy, needs to go everywhere i go. lol. glad that is over with~~

slave day crea?? you work so hard, every day is a slave day! YF, i hope you have a nice trip north.  why don't you come south and enjoy the lake breeze down here!! lol  even when it is HOT and HUMID, we have a nice breeze. i cannot imagine having A/C

time for my coffee on the porch,BBL

    have a great day!!

good morning pat!! funny how we can forget to take things. even making lists, i still managed to forget something ! i hope the market goes well. under a roof is great. i just love to go to the market. pouting this morning, as i cannot go. i am going to look for a booster car seat at yard sales, then i will not have to remember to grab my GDs seat every time she comes!!

the border will be nuts today. my DIL has to come back over........the traffic will be just crazy. i hope she does not have to wait too long.

    good luck with the market!!

Katie, I bet you are having a good time babysitting your GD and making jam wow that is a lot of jam. All set for the winter ahead, yummy home-made is so much better.

Meesh, happy birthday to Ric on his 50th . Are you celebrating for the big guy?

YF- That will be nice taking the back road rather than 400 series. Hope you have a great and safe trip. How long are you going for? Where North is it? Guess you will not be able to connect for the week with us.

Katie - thats alot of jam - so you eat that in one year? One jar would last me years. LOL Thats good to have the doggies all dutied up now. The bigger one I'm sure will be feel better - or did he not go to the groomers?

I think anyone buying a SUV would almost get it for nothing. LOL

Pat hope you have a great market day. With it being holiday weekend you could be very busy. I love the farmers markets.

Katie - be careful at garage sales looking for baby seats - some of them are bought elsewhere and don't meet the standards in Ontario.

    Good Morning CC Friends

Another hot day, I don't like the humidity, heat I can handle. YF where up north are you heading. I use to live in Timmins. Our son will also be 40 this year on July 25th. where has the time gone.

I saw in the paper where they say there will be about 10,000.000 less cars on the road, maybe people will walk more, so there will be less health issues with people getting exercise.

Katie wow that is a lot of jam, my mom makes plum jam every few years. I use to can peaches & also cucumber type salad & stuffed peppers with cabbage, now that it's just my DH & me I don't do that anymore.

Have fun at the market Pat, I miss our old Farmers market from years past where there were a lot of home made crafts, now there are a few crafts mostly flea market stuff you can buy at the dollar store.

Crea have fun at lunch, Now I'm craving Chinese, since my DD became vegetarian almost vegan we are limited to where we go out to lunch.

OK gotta go nothing is getting done around here, I started another cross stitch project that I can't seem to leave alone.

Every one enjoy your day & keep cool

Omigosh, Katie...your dog weighs 102 lbs? That sounds more like a pony! Pat, next winter when you get to rest up while waiting for spring planting, sit down and make yourself a check list on the computer for what you need to take to market with you. Then all you will have to do is print off copies to use in the summer. Sounds good...until you discover that there's something you forgot to put on the list:)

YF, I had two kids like that, too. One born on September 25 and one born September 20 the next year. When they were little they loved those five days so that they could tell people they were the same age! And BTW, you're going back to work? Who says so? And when is that going to be--hope not too soon!

Today is our last day of hot weather for a few days. It's supposed to cool off tonight with thunderstorms, then only around 20 or so until the first part of next week. Next Friday is our Independence Day holiday. Just guessing from the price of gas this week, there won't be a lot of people on the roads over our long weekend. And that sheik or emir or minister or whoever he was who predicted $170 before the end of summer didn't help anything. Somebody put a muzzle on that guy!

The talking heads on TV are predicting one of two things for the stock market today: either people will snap up stocks that had a big sell-off yesterday and are cheap today--or--they'll be selling off even more today. Oh to be rich so that stuff like this wouldn't matter! Our stock has lost all the gains over the past two years. Not good for us oldsters!

    Coffee time. BBL

    Re: Canadian Corner 27/06/08

Crea, trust me, we do NOT need that much jam!! lol  DH just loves to garden and preserve. with all the kids, we will be sending home care pkgs for them all for the winter.  the girls will join me to do the bigger stuff, like tomatoes etc.

i heard on the news that by 2010 gas could be 7.00 a gallon!! holy honkin' gold gas pump!! that will be the day i buy a horse and buggy!!  the mennonite communities have the right idea!!

i know that some car seats are not approved. thanks for the reminder crea.....i will be careful!

we just went to the vets. i am not sure my big boy would like the groomers. he is very timid, and gets so scared. we had the vet muzzle him.........he is very gentle, and a good boy at home, but as a precaution, so the groomers is not on my list. i do it myself. lol

DH just woke up, and if he even thinks about going near that strawberry patch today? i will put holes in his pails!! no more berries for me today!! tomorrow when he picks, i will make some pies and have some fun with the berries. the freezer is full, the jam is done!! so we will enjoy the rest now.

the 400 series is horrid. we never travel it. just crazy out there. i prefer the back roads too....takes longer but is more scenic and safer.

    Re: Canadian Corner 27/06/08

    Goodmorning!

Wow, a chatty bunch this morning.  Katie, that sure is a lot of jam.  I'm not sure if I am even going to make any this year.  I still have lots in the freezer.  I'll probably do a batch or 2 of raspberry though.  Dh seems to like that better.  I don't eat a lot of bread, so I hardly ever use the jam.  Love making bread, just don't eat it much.

That reminds me, I was supposed to post my bread recipes......I'll have to get at that later today.

Woke up this morning to a downpour.  Right now, it's overcast and breezy.  I'm not sure what the temp is supposed to be today.  I know it is supposed to clear off this afternoon.  We really need the rain.  Another forest fire broke out in NS again.  I haven't heard if there is any in NB.  They did say that the forests are the driest it's been in decades (according to a fire chief in NS)  I know that when we went fishing back in May, the snow had just melted and the forest was dry then....

I'm sure my garden is loving this bit of rain.  I noticed that I have some peas beginning to set on.  That means some fresh peas for supper in a few weeks.  It looks like my beans are about ready to blossom out soon too.  I saw a few buds last night.  Yummmmmmy!  My dad dug into a side of his potatos the other day and said that he had some small ones (about the width of a nickle or quarter).  Some of my potatoes are just starting to blossom too.  I wish my beets had turned out though.  Then I could have some beet greens for supper.  Guess I'll have to go raid my dad's garden for those.

Well, off for a cup of coffee and figure out what I am going to do today.

Cathy - wow you are going to have some yummy stuff to eat shortly out of the garden. I cannot wait to find some freshly dug taters.

Katie is that $7.00 gal in the US I wonder?

Yooper - the markets are driving everyone crazy-bet these financial advisors are busy with these people that have a lot of money - no worry in this household thou.LOL

Anica - if you get to London - call me and we will go for Chinese food. Did you see the Post from Cindy asking about the Cambridge area - its a separate post where she has posted.

    Re: Canadian Corner 27/06/08

    Good morning girls,

Well, I'm catching up on my work & am I glad. I'll finfish my part today & then it's the guys turn. At least it better be. David keeps telling me to paint so all the trim is done, & I'll finish the part where they had to put new on around the new bathroom door. If I hadn't had to go to class last night, it would of been done. Maybe about 1/2 hour at the most, then I can clean house. But now I'm looking to replace the bathroom window. The replacement windows aren't too hard to do. So they say. LOL Richard did replace it when we remodled the bathroom many years ago. I want a more energy efficient one. Then there will be just five more to replace. We had all the big ones done last year but not the small ones because theguys said they could do them.

YF, I've been meaning to send you an email but just haven't done it. I'm so happy about your report. Prayers do help. Look at how many were praying for you. God said if He brings it to you, He brings you through it. Again, a big HOORAY! I'll get you an email one of these days. I just move at a slower pace than you. LOL Will you be looking for a house on your vacation? Happy birthday to your kids.

Crea, eat enough Chinese for me. Richard doesn't like it so I don't get to go there. I could eat there every week & be happy.

What is your holiday that is Tues? Ours is Fri. the 4th of July. Of course the gas is going up. It always does around any kind of holiday, doesn't it? Then the oil companies try to justify the billions of dollars profit that they make. Yeah, right.

Ann, I'm praying for your result to be a good one.

Cathy, I missed what was wrong with your foot that you had to have surgery. How do you know when to dig around the potatoes? My neighbor used to call it scrabbling. LOL

Pat, we had a little rain last night, thank goodness Richard got the tilling done where he could  get between the rows.

Katie, I love to hear jars popping but won't hear too much this year since I dont have to can much this year. What kind of dogs do you have? We have a Shih Tzu, Australian She[erd and a Siberian Husky.

Anica, my grandmother made stuffed peppers. Even tho she gave me her recipe, mine never tasted the same.

Yooper, we cooled down overnight with the rain. They say it's going to get to 92, but if the sun doesn't come out I doubt it will.

I think I got everybody now. But as slow as I am, more have gotten on now for sure. A big hello to them

    Marilyn
