    New member...sharing frugal tip

Hello!  I am a new member.  I live in the part of Indiana that was affected by the floods a couple of weeks ago.  We had some storm damage but are thankful that we still have our home.  So many people lost everything :-(

I am the mother of a 4 year old with autism and for those of you who have a child with autism, you know how expensive treatments can be.  I look forward to learning from you all and sharing some of my own tips.......

Here is one of my tips.  If you are looking to save money at the grocery store, the best times to find good deals on perishable items are early morning (opening time) or later evening (after 8:00 p.m.).  On the morning run, you will find items like meat that will be expiring that day.  Most of the time the meat is 30-50% off and you can cook it that day or stick it in the freezer.  In the evening, you will find baked goods and items like bagged salads that expire the next day.  These items are usually 50-70% off.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day.    Faith

Altho' we live in a small town, population only about 4000, we have 3 grcery stores.  One of them is great for getting reduced prices on meat. and fresh produce and this really is a great way to save money, especially if yu're on a tight budget.

Welcome to the group. You have posted some wonderful tips, I frequently buy grocery items the way you described. I sometimes stop at my favorite grocery store in the morning on my way to work so that I can take advantage of meat and vegetables placed in the marked down bin. I then take my meat in to work with me and place it in the freezer or refrigerators (we have 3 in the building so we have room). Savings is worth a little extra trouble. Thanks for posting your tip.

Welcome to the group. You will like it here. I have seen on TV where an actress and Jim Carey are doing something with Autism. The actress's son has autism. She was on Good Morning America or one of those shows. Anyway she said she stop giving her son milk, sugar, gluten and something else. She also said it had helped him alot. She is now an advacate for autism. Wish I could remember her name. Just a thought of something you might want to read.

I am not suggesting you stop what his doctors are telling you to do. Just thought you might be intrested in reading about it.

The actress is Jenny McCarthy and I know she is an excellent advocate for those families dealing with autism.  Welcome to this group!

Waving at you from a sw ND  small town of 1300 with 2 grocery stores.

Since it is 75 mi (one way) to the next largest town of 20000 our stores mark absolutely NOTHING down except the one store discounts over ripe babanas on Monday morning. Alaska Prof over in KC says our groceries are higher than in Safeway in Anchorage.

There are several ladies who have children with autism but offhand I can only remember one. She hangs out in Kitchen Chat (she is a pre-school teacher) and her name is

    Disneylovingmama

she also has a little girl with auism but I think her daughter is 6 or 7yrs old. You may try to contact her and she can tell you about others.

Hello from WY, I'm new to this tooBig Smile.  You are all luck with how many grocery store's you have!!!  The town I live in has about 16,000 and we only have 1.  And the town next to us has about 23,000 people and only has 2 plus a super walmart.  Your idea is wonderful!!!!  But in our community it's hard for the stores o keep up with demand.  We just had a bumb and the stores con't catch up!!!!

    Good day to all.                    Jennifer
