Micki is feeling better and sounds so much cheerier.....
Well, as of now we can start saying, "We go home next week." We are all truly physically drained. I'm missing home and my animals and friends. Tomorrow (Monday) is my anniversary and my understanding is the group plans to buy me rounds of drinks. I guess we'll see.
Yesterday we left Cuernavaca and traveled to Mexico City. My stomach is fine now, but my roommate Sarah has come down with problems. She has it much worse than I did. (I swear, I did NOT breathe on her!) However, she's gone downstairs to find the Starbucks. So maybe she's feeling better. Our main goal for yesterday was the ancient Aztec ruins of Teotihuacan. However, along the way, we made stops at Our Lady of Guadalupe and some other stop. I'll have to go back and look at what I wrote down because I've sept since then. I think it was where the Mexican Revolution of 1910 started. The church at Our Lady of Guadalupe was very interesting. There have been 5 churches at the site and still standing. However, the one built back in the late 19th century is leaning because the city of Mexico is sinking 3 inches a year. So it was the leaning church of Our Lady. (ha ha! Sorry) Anyway, the newest was built in 1978 and it's a monster. The outside, in my opinion, was not very pretty. the inside was much nicer. I guess it's like all other things here in Mexico, it's not what's on the outside that counts.
We then trekked on to Teotihuacan. the site was HUGE. Also, the Aztecs were much more concerned with future tourists because there were handrails along many of those uneven steps to the top. I climbed a little, but I'm a little climbed out. Plus the clouds were just screaming rain. While at Teotihuacan, I found a Day of the Dead t-shirt for me (finally!) and a really cool figurine for the same holiday. I've seen some others, but they were all VERY well-endowed (in others, too much for the teenage eye!!!) I feel like I have finally been successful on this trip.
As we left the Aztecs, it started pouring down. We drove on to our hotel and it is fabulous. We are all on the 10th floor and we have a really nice view. According to Brian, we are close to Hard Rock Cafe so that may be lunch today!!!! Woo Hoo! Our dinner last night was buffet and it was like heaven on earth. There were BBQ RIBS!!!!!! Okay, now they were not McClard's or Stubby's, but they sure were good. We looked like a bunch of southerners! Even the guy from Chicago. Our hotel has a/c, carpet, fancy bathroom.....it's so nice Oh, and also 3-prong plugs for our computers. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
today is the homes of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Despite my lack of art knowledge, I'm looking forward to both of these. I have a little over an hour to shower, breakfast, and catch the bus! All of you have a great day and I'll visit again later!
