Rec & Review: Johnsonville Brat's Hot Tub~~ "flavor up" is right!

Our supermarket had Johnsonville brats on sale last week, buy one get one free, so I grabbed 2 packs.    DH often comments how good they look when he sees the commercials, and his favorite was the "Beer Hot Tub".

There are 2 schools of thought on it, some people boil them in the mixture before grilling, others grill and then let them soak in "hot tub".    I did mine the second way, let them simmer after grilling for about 30 mins.    Served them with light rolls, and corn on the cob.     Excellent, and the extra package has been slated to be repeated the same way on our camping trip!

I didn't take a pic of these, and the one from the site won't copy, but it can be found at this link:

          Johnsonville Brat Hot Tub

Amount  Measure       Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    --------  ------------  --------------------------------
                            One 11 x 9 x 2 3/8 inch aluminum foil baking pan
      2                     beers -- (2 to 3) (I used 2 Sam Adams)
      2              Tbsp.  butter
1             medium  yellow or white onion -- sliced
      1            package  Johnsonville brats

Put the pan right on the grill, careful not to singe your knuckle hair, pour in the beers and add the butter and onions.  Then grill your Johnsonville Brats to a juicy, golden-brown perfection.  Serve immediately to your hungry guests and place any remaining brats into the steaming hot tub.  When folks are ready for seconds or thirds--or when stragglers show up late - grab a Johnsonville Brat out of the hot tub and enjoy!

Note:  Leftovers were stored in a bowl with the juice and onions and reheated later and DH said they were still great.

I often cook Brats in beer but I love this method and the way you did them. I never thought about the butter and onion. Yum! DH will love these. Big Smile

Hi Janie!    We don't do regular hot dogs often either, and I buy the 97% FF Hebrew National when we do.     :)     But I splurge on kielbasa a few times a year for NancyNJ's Kielbasa Maple Bites, and we'll do the same with Brats this way   :)

Bailey, I was surprised I liked this, I'm not a big beer fan, but you really don't get "BEER" when you eat them, just YUM!      :)

I bought brats for the 4th, but we had so many other things on the grill, I didn't cook them.  I'll have them this way the next time.   Thanks for the idea.

Sounds good, I will try this version, some of our stores had those brats for $3.88 for a 3# box and there were $2 off coupons in the Sunday papers! Needless to say I stocked up.    Here in Northern Wisc brats are a staple but with sauerkraut.  I suppose a couple cans of *** could be added to the mixture and let it simmer a bit before serving.   I am going to make mine on real charcoal not a gas grill.    I miss the good old charcoal flavor, we use the gas grill too often for convenience sake.

Loolie, it censored your post, a couple of cans of ???    I've never had sauerkraut!   I much prefer charcoal, but only get to use it when camping   :(
