Please help: Searching for Egyptian type appetizers

     Hi everyone

My Mother belongs to the Red Hat Ladies Club. They are doing a dinner party. The theme of the party is, QUEEN OF THE NILE . My Mom needs to bring an appetizer, that reflects, that time era.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

My DD lived in Cairo for three years and we always had baba ganoush and pitas when we were there. The baba ganoush is easy to make and home made pitas are great but bought ones will do too.

    Fruits

Several fruits were eaten in ancient Egypt, depending on the period. What was available depended on agriculture and trade. Popular fruits in ancient Egypt include:

    • dates
    • grapes
    • pomegranates
    • peaches
    • watermelon

So maybe she'd like to do something with fruit. Personally I really love stuffed dates and they are easy to make.

     Stuffed Dates

    • 15 pitted dates
    • 15 toasted almonds or pecans
    • powdered sugar for dusting

Stuff dates with one pecan per date. Roll in powdered sugar.

Place on greased wax paper in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

"A good deed is never lost: he who sows courtesy reaps friendship; and he who plants kindness gathers love."
