Went to a new "Super" supermarket.

They used to be supermarkets, now they call them Superstores. Well, we have a new one and I thought I'd visit it today since I was out of groceries. I loved the store, it carries a lot of things we don't have in the "old" store. It was ice cold and I nearly froze though. One thing different was it had a "Spanish" aisle, just for the Latinos. A good thing I really liked, and most of you probably already have this, was they put my refrigerator/freezer items in blue bags and the rest was in white. That made it easier for me to take in the cold things first and get them in the fridge/freezer before they melted. The groceries were a lot higher than I expected.

NO that isle is NOT just for latinos....there are lots of us non-latin folks who just love spicy and good food...I would rather eat that food than most other.....and the hotter the better...

now about those blue and white bags.....never seen them....are the blue ones thicker or just the same...for easy ID when getting groceries out of car????

what was the name of this store?????

I agree about the ethnic sections of the grocery store.  They're for everyone--and around here, everyone uses them.  All stores--big and small--in my area have fairly extensive sections of ethnic food--various types of Asian, Indian, Latino, Jewish, among others.  Most people I know, have long ago incorporated the food of other cultures into their own meals.  I find it interesting that many foods that used to be 'ethnic' are now on the REGULAR aisles.  One example that jumps to mind.  When I started using Panko--years ago--I had to go to oriental markets to find it.  Then, the supermarkets started carrying it on the ethnic food aisle.  Now?  It's right next to the regular bread crumbs--you cannot find it with the other Japanese food items at all.  That is just so cool.

Haven't seen the color-coded bags--hope stores around here adopt that practice soon.  What kind of store was it, btw?  You said a 'superstore', but not the specific 'brand'.  We're always on the lookout for interesting supermarkets when we travel--this sounds like one we'd love to try, if we happened to pass one.

I haven't seen the color-coded bags yet, but it does make me think.  I bought some reusable grocery bags, and I think I do have 2 different colors.  So, assuming I ever remember to take them to the store with me, I could ask the bagger to use the blue for cold items and the brown for other stuff.

    Nom, nom, nom.

Gosh we've had ethnic aisles in grocery stores for ages here in CA.  No, it's not for just Latino's, nor is the Asian section just for Asians.  I love both Chinese and Mexican food...so I frequent those aisles often.
