Non-blooming Black-Eyed Susan Vine. Advice, please.

I have the large-flower (Orange Wonder or Lemon Wonder) Black-Eyed Susan vine with not 1 bloom on it. The vines are now over 3 feet long but not even a bud. When I bought it, it was 4 or 5 ft. long - no buds - but it was the last one in stock so I took it.  It got wind damaged during a storm so I cut off the damaged vines, thinking maybe it would be shocked into bloom. Nothing, although it is very healthy looking & growing well.

On the other hand we had a Lemon one of the same vaiety that was badly set back by frost at our greenhouse. It was a pitiful sight but I brought it home anyway & it's blooming it head off.

Both are in the same location.  receive lots of sun, water & fertilizer.

Is there such a thing as a sterile plant?

I had never heard of the black-eyed susan vine, so I looked it up. It's really pretty. Could it be a later bloomer? If the plant looks healthy, I would give it a little tiime. Some plants bloom later in the summer or fall.

    Good luck. Smile

No, they are not late bloomers. They are annuals in our zone.  The ones that come into our greenhouse for resale are in full bloom in early April. The yellow one I have is just covered in blooms and it's the one that had a bad set-back with being heavily touched by frost so I know there's something wrong with this 2nd. one but I don't know how to fix it or what is causing this.

The clincher is that the one I took home from our greenhouse was so pitiful nobody thought it was going to make it so I got it for free & it's putting on a real show now.The one that refuses to bloom, came from a greenhouse in the city & I paid $15 for it.  Never mind that ours retail for only $7.95.!

A website I just looked at said they can bloom in spring and early summer, mid-summer, or late summer and early fall. I would just let it go and see what happens.
