I wanna go home, I wanna go home, I wanna go home...

That's what my poor DD kept saying last night when the fireworks began.  Poor baby!  She's only 2 1/2 and she didn't care for the loud noise at first.  I sat her in my lap on our blanket, held her close, covered her ears, and started singing to her.  She soon calmed down and then we started talking about the big bangs and the pretty colors.  Before it was all over she was loving it.

Here is a picture of "Patrick Henry."  LOL  Okay, he's the 6th great grandson of Patrick Henry but he dresses up every year and gives a wonderful speech at Red Hill.  (That's where we went for the 4th).  He's very good!

Hope you all had a great 4th!!

Here is a picture of my DD before the fireworks began.  She was relaxing in the chair just enjoying the day!

And here are a few of the fireworks.  It was kind of hard to take those pictures with DD all over me.  LOL

She's adorable. Maybe she'll enjoy them more next year.

I don't care for the loud noise of fireworks, either, smalltowngirl –- glad you managed to soothe your daughter, and that your holiday was a good one. Very interesting photo -- how cool is that! He is a direct descendant from the original Patrick Henry? Wow.

We love Virginia. Lots of interesting places rich in history.

    Thanks for sharing this. Smile

Your daughter is very cute! Nice fireworks photos too. Smile

I was with a 3-year-old who was seeing his first fireworks last night.  He was loving them!  He had everybody laughing, he was so excited.

Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.

Thanks Mom!  We think she's pretty special.  Big Smile  With three older brothers and nothing but male cousins she's kind of a little princess.  LOL  They certainly look after her.  I pity the first boy that breaks her heart...if they even let her date!  LOL

saw whet ~ We are fortunate that we are a short distance from lots of historical places.  Patrick Henry's last home, the Appomattox civil war battle grounds, Richmond, Monticello (sp), and so many others.  It's a great way to teach "living" history to the kids.

Speaking of family history, we traced DH's family history back to 1690.  He has direct ancestors that served in the revolutionary war and the civil war on his fathers side.  He is a "kin of kin" of Pocahontas.  I forget how it goes but I believe his mother's direct ancestor was the sibling of the man that married the daughter of Pocahontas.  I have to go back and look, I may have it backwards but I know that there was a marriage to the child of pocahontas and he's related to the sibling.  LOL  Confusing the way I explain it, huh?  LOL

I remember being afraid of the fireworks when I was little -- LOL, though, it's a "southern tradition" to claim ancestry to Pocahontas in some way -- my grandmother did the same thing & she was a big genealogy fan after my grandfather died 30+ years ago!  Her family have also been here since the 1600's.

I'm sure these battlefied areas are especially popular this time of year :)

LOL  Well, he's not actually related to pocahontas...just related to someone that was related.  Anyway, it was interesting that his family had been here that long.  We have lots more info on his fathers side as many of the records don't list enough information on the women.  Signs of the times I suppose.  We have decided that all of his ancestors must have been servants or not very good with money because nothing has been passed down that we can find!  LOL
