    WHAT ARE YOU READING? 6/6

Good Morning all you loyal readers out there in cyberland.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.  We had our picnic yesterday because it was more convenient for everyone.  It was a beautiful day.

I am now just getting into Jude Deveraux's RETURN TO SUMMERHOUSE.  It is a large print book so shouldn't take me long to go through it.

Magic resides in the Maine summerhouse where Madama Zoya grants the innermost wishes of her visitors.  Three women come to rewrite their painful pasts.  Amy hides a heartbreaking loss behind her seemingly perfect family.  Faith has deep feelings for a man from years ago.  And Zoe is shunned by her hometown for reasons she doesn't know.  With their mystical powers, Madame Zoya and her sister Primrose are about to transport the trio to eighteenth-century England to alter Amy's ancestry.  Although surprises await each of them, will stepping back in time bring the happy endings they seek.

Hope you all have a wonderful week and if you have traveled over this holiday had a safe journey home.

I'm reading OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon.  I've had this book for years, and finally started it.  I'm about 1/4 way through, and enjoying it.

Good afternoon to all my fellow lovers of reading from cloudy East Tennessee.  I hope all of you had a great holiday week-end.  The rain held off here until after the big parade on the fourth and  we all had our lunch cook-outs.  Then, we got a big thunderstorm with severe winds and hail.  It blew out the windows in one of the hospitals and took down some trees.  Our robin's nest full of babies on the end of a limb survived, thank goodness.  We needed the rain desperately--just not all that wind and hail.Lightning

I finished reading Sheldon Siegel's CRIMINAL INTENT.  Mike Daley is an ex-priest, ex-public defender, and ex-corporate lawyer.  Daley and his former wife, Rosie, run their own San Francisco criminal defense firm.  Even though they're not good at being married, they're good at working together.  Now they're defending Rosie's niece who is accused of murdering her husband, a movie director.  Family problems don't end there; Rosie's brother, Tony, may be on the wrong end of a strong-arm graft proposal,  To top it all, the son of one of the firm's lawyers has just been busted on a drug charge.  This is an intricate plot with very likable characters, powerful suspense, and a touch of humor which makes for very good reading with a surprising ending.  I've only recently discovered this author, and I like him very much.  After the first book, you get to know the characters.

Have a great week, everyone.  I hope you find lots of good books to read and tell us about.

Margaret--I have the first 4 books of this series, but just started Outlander the other day.  I know there's 2 more in the series that I'll have to get when I see them used.  I have another series (4 books) that I also want to read by Sara Donati.  The lady in the used book store told me about them.  She said that if you like Outlander, you'll like these--but there's no time travel in them.  They take place in the late 1700's.  So many books.......

I haven't been on here in a while, but I read two wonderful books this week and wanted to share.

The first book was The Forest Lover by Susan Vreeland.  It is the story of Emily Carr, a Canadian artist who painted the Pacific Northwest Indians prior to WWI.  It was really fascinating to know how they lived then and how we treated them.  The story is fiction based on truth.

Next I read The Beach House by Jane Green. This book is a beach read if I ever saw one! It all takes place on Nantucket  and I read all afternoon until I finished it. It's a new release and was really very good.

Both of these authors have written other books which I will add to my To Be Read List.

I really love the suggestions I get on ths thread. Have a great week!  Barbara

I am reading and enjoying LOVING FRANK, Anne Horan, though I do not like the premise -- that the lover leaves her children to travel around Europe with Frank Lloyd Wright.  I am about half-way through the book.  A few years ago, I started THE OUTLANDER, Diana Gabaldon, but didn't like the fantasy of time travel.  There were some excellent passages in the book, but I decided the series was not for me.  SHARON:  I never got your email.  I'd love to hear your opinion of the ending of GRAND AVENUE without giving it away to the gals on this thread.  Mary Kay

P.S.  Weather at The Jersey Shore has been dismal during the entire Fourth of July weekend.

Good afternoon from hot, muggy west central Minnesota.Cool I checked out FRIDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB this week from the library only to find out I had already read it.  So then, I checked out and read, IRON LAKE by William Kent Kruger.  Loved the book so much I've ordered his next two.  The story takes place in northern MN so many of the names and descriptions were familiar to me.  I also read FIRST PATIENT by Michael Palmer and like the poster last week, enjoyed it very much. Next on my list is MY SON, the SAVIOR by Melody Carlson.  I've read her before and liked her books very much.  She usually writes a fictional account of something from a mother's point of view.  If you think MY SON is to secular for your taste, read CRYSTAL LIES, the fictionalized story of a family whose son is addicted to meth.  Very powerful reading.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and are ready to start this new week.

The book by Jude Deveraux called RETURN TO SUMMERHOUSE.is quite the fantasy.  Not my type of reading.

Last week I picked up a book by Greg Iles.  He writes mystery stories and they are so good I plan to read them all.   So far I've read True Evil, 24 Hours and The Quiet Game.   His books are fast paced with interesting characters , and the fear and paranoia in their lives keep you coming back for more.
