This is a good basic recipe

    Marinara Sauce

2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes or regular diced tomatoes

1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste

    4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

    1 clove garlic, minced

    1 teaspoon dried oregano

    1 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

    6 tablespoons olive oil

    1/3 cup finely diced onion

    1/2 cup white wine

In a food processor place  tomatoes, tomato paste, chopped parsley, minced garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth.

In a large skillet over medium heat saute the finely chopped onion in olive oil for 2 minutes. Add the blended tomato sauce and white wine.

Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

I got this recipe from Tyler Florence's show on the Food Network several years ago.  I usually quadruple this recipe and divide it into containers for the freezer.  I use it for pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce, lasagna, dipping sauce, etc.  It is wonderful, easy, and so basic.

MARINARA SAUCE  2 T. olive oil1 medium onion, chopped1 to 2 cloves garlic, minced1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes1 tsp. oregano1 tsp. basil1 bay leaf2 tsp. sugarSalt and pepper, to taste In a large pot, sauté the onion and garlic in the oil.  Add the tomatoes and the rest of the ingredients.  Simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes.  Stir occasionally.   From The Food Network—Tyler Florence

OK, sorry about the previous recipe. why does it always reformat my recipes that I copy and paste here from a word document?  Anybody know how to do this correctly?

Thanks everyone for the recipes. I will try these. My son loves to dip his cheese sticks in marinara sauce and I thought I could make it cheaper than I can buy it.
