    Church bake sale ideas

Our church is having a bake sale on Saturday.  I am needing ideas to fix for it.  Easy, good sellers.

    Thanks

Rice Krispy treats are not only easy to make, but typically sell well.  If you research the TOH website you can probably find one that has peanut butter, pretzels and M&M's in them.  I have the recipe somewhere, but not sure where right now.  I got it out of a TOH several years ago.  My kids go through a full batch in just a couple of days.  Any kind of bar cookie would work as well.

What about novaks, brownies, peanut butter cookies?

I have a recipe for German Chocolate Chess Squares that my mom gave me. They are wonderful and the recipe makes 4 dozen. They travel well and are so delicious and easy to make.  I'll share the recipe if you'd like.

Rice Krispy Treats are a great idea as well.  In fact, I saw strawberry marshmellows today.

Our church's bake sale seems to have better luck with smaller items...individual sized nut breads (always label clearly for anyone allergic to nuts, chocolate for the caffine, etc), small bags with 6 cookies, mixes like Chex mix or gorp to munch on easily...keeps kids quiet & doesn't give them too much sugar.  Somehow, in our area, the big cakes, whole pies just don't seem popular.  Other good sellers are items that are made with lower-fat (using apple sauce for part of the oil, or egg beaters or just egg whites).  How hot is it in your area...putting togther some gorp in bags would mean a cooler kitchen :-)

It's a type of trail mix, but I don't remember the ingredient list.

Gorp is a mix of dried fruit, M & M's, nuts...you can add what you like.  I think, originally it was created to take on the 'trail'...a light-weight bag of something quick & easy to munch on.  It can be more on the sweet side, w/chocolate chips or M & M's, or it can be on the salty-side w/nuts, cereal...more savory.  If you google trail mix or gorp, you'll get a wide selection of things to mix together.  And, you don't have to heat up the kitchen.

Ladies, whenever I make Rice Krispies Bars, I like to add 1/4 cup of creamy peanut butter, or 1/3 cup of one of the following flavored baking chips...real semi-sweet chocolate chips, cherry chips, raspberry chips, butterscotch chips, or white chocolate chips, plus I use 5 Tablespoons of butter, 5 cups of mini marshmallows, (or I'll add one 10.5 ounce bag) along with 6 or 7 cups of the rice crisp cereal.  I have even used those chocolate or berry flavored Rice Krispies Cereals, to make my bars.

We made it with M&Ms, raisins, and peanuts, the big white ones from Planters. It's really good and you could bag it in individual servings. Kids love it.  Another thing I nearly always buy at a bake sale is individually wrapped slices of pound cake. It's not always easy to carry around a big pound cake, especially if you have other errands to run.

I was a band parent for my daughter's school for 4 years and though she graduated 2 years ago they still call me whenever they need baked goods.  Rice Krispies treats are a good idea and I've changed it up using different kinds of cereal.  One of the favorites is Blueberry Muffin Tops cereal or the Mighty Mateys cereal, both in big bags at WalMart.  I also melt some white almond bark and drizzle it over the tops to make it a little more special.  When I use the Mateys I add some Tutti Frutti flavoring to the melted bark.  The kids always loved it.  They don't call me 'Mama DiCrocker for nothing!  :o)

I made a bunch of small loaves of whole grain bread for the church bake sale of a friend. They told me the bread sold out long before the sweets did.

Maybe it is a regional thing but here small loaves of bread are a big hit with older couples and singles of any age .
