    Cooking for new moms

I belong to our local chapter of MomsClub. Whenever a member has a new baby, the club members help out with a week of meals for the family. We also do this if a member has surgery or anything that might make preparing meals for her family difficult for her.

We have also prepared a meal at the local Ronald McDonald's house, and will be doing this again.

welcome!  I am the one who organizes meals for ladies in our church who just had babies.  We have people on a sign up sheet who are willing to do meals, and I just go down the list and give them a call, and almost always people are more then willing to help out.  If you have a big list of willing people, you never have to ask someone more then maybe once a year.

Today I just got asked to do a meal for an elderly couple in our church, they are both in their 80's and she has had a lot of health problems lately.  He can't have pork, and she is diabetic.  So that shouldn't be a problem, as my BIL is diabetic, so I am familiar with the diet restrictions.  What sort of meals do you like to make for people during the summer months?  Often during the winter I will make soup, buns and dessert, but summer is different, and being two elderly people, I really have no idea what to make!

    Hey Char!

I'm the lady in our church who organizes meals for those who need them.  We usually deliver a meal to new parents, people recovering from surgery or recently released from the hospital, and sometimes people undergoing lengthy medical treatments.  My church calls this group "Meals that Heal" and I have about 30 volunteer cooks on my list.  This group is my baby because I brought the idea up and organized it, after seeing it at another church and falling in love with the idea.

Some of our favorite entree ideas are:  sloppy joes, barbecued chicken, chicken/veggie casseroles, lasagna, and even a breakfast type casserole with eggs and hash browns.  In the winter, many people make soups and stews.

"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."

    Hi Char

I never come in here and don't know what made me do it tonite.  Have no suggestions for you re food - but - question the recipe site - know there are diabetics there.  Also, look into Cookin Seniors - the best bunch of ladies you ever want to meet - tell 'em I sent you lol.  Someone there will be able to help you.
