Hi rosies - been a bit overwhelmed here, so I've been staying away. Got a lot going on between home /family issues and work, and then the holiday, then Shauna's 18th birthday was Monday... her grad party is this coming weekend, and there is a lot on my shoulders for that. I'm on "vacation" this week and next - my company is forcing everyone to take their vacation during this time while our assembly plants are shut down (they always shut down the first two weeks in July for the line change). Because the company is in such bad financial shape, they decided to shut down headquarters too, which is where I am.

I know now that I won't be able to go to Branson - I've used most of my vacation time for this shutdown, and my mother will be having knee replacement surgery sometime in the fall - I'll have to take unpaid time off when that happens, and that's going to be a hardship as it is. I can't afford take any further unpaid time, even if they would let me, much less afford the gas or airfare to drive halfway across the country. So, I guess you all will have to just raise a glass in your thoughts of me, ok?

I need to visit with Miss Clairol this morning - my hair looks like a washed out dishrag, LOL. Honestly, I FEEL like a washed out dishrag in this humidity we're having - it's "down" to only 85% humidity this morning.  Yippee.

Pat, I'm sorry to hear that your back is hurting so bad! Tango, that's a bummer you're sick! I think the summer cooties are often worse. Maizey, I hope Bill's eye is doing better... how is Tom's foot? I worry so much about you with all you have on your shoulders... please take care. IM, sounds like you've had a bad time with your tooth - you sure didn't need that. How are things with NSDD?

Waving hi to ALL therosies - Lynn, Dori, Jane, Roma, Cook, Maryann, Jeanne, Laura, Ridge, and everyone I might not have mentioned - you are ALL always in my heart.

    Love and fluffy hugs....

I haven't failed; I've just found 10,000 ways that dont work.

    Good morning.

Sorry I didn't get here yesterday. I hurt my hip somehow and by the time I got home I couldn't hardly walk. So Lyle took pity on me and we went out to dinner.

The ride Mon. was great. The weather was perfect for riding. On the way home we started turning into our road and bam a bee got me in the neck. Boy did that hurt like heck.

Maizey I worry about you so much. No one should have on their plate what you do. I hope today is a good day for you.

Fluffy I worry about you also. Wow it just seems like everything keeps coming at you. Hope you get a little rest over your time off.

Tango glad you got the bank straightened out. That would be scarey to say the least.

Pat hope your back is better. Take care of it.

    Off for coffee.

As far as Branson I believe I told everyone I couldn't go. Change of job and all. I would love to be there. Then my darling daughter calls me and asks me to go to Disneyland. I told her no that DH threw a fit about it. Well the guy who ripped me off gave me part of the money and with that I'm going with Cass. I just couldn't turn down the chance to go to Disneyland with my grandkids. They are so excited that I'm going. I feel like a trader for going with them instead of you ladies but I think you will understand. I can't wait to see their faces on some of the rides. Then we will be meeting two women from the craft room. That will be cool.

Well off to get ready for work.

     Good morning everyone.

I'm just out of the garden, a sweaty mess; but just checking in before I hop in the shower.

I am in desperate need of a haircut; but can't get it until next week.

Right now I'm about to wring Tom's neck. This was the day he was supposed to have major testing done; and the hospital just called he didn't show up. He told me he was going to cancel the testing but he never did (apparently) He is totally irresponsible and useless.

Fluffy, I can imagine the added stress on your plate having Shauna's party this weekend.  We are having Kate's birthday this coming Sunday. It wouldn't be so stressful for me if her other grandparents weren't coming. Now I have to clean the house and I don't have time. Mary Beth will be coming home tomorrow night, she is flying from Seattle to Albany and then driving here. Her DH will be coming in on Saturday he is on a business assignment in Texas. Now instead of having a nice peaceful visit I have to make Mary Beth help me clean the house. Some vacation for her!!!!!!! And she is only here for a few days and then off to Ithica on business.

Hope the ailing Rosies with aches and pains feel better soon.

Wow.  All the Roses are wilting.  Love and hugs for everyone.

I've just been busy. Same story different day.  Tonight is another tax class.  I'm so glad my niece is staying with me.  I asked her to come back next week but we have to ask her mom.

Saturday is the wedding I'm in and it's supposed to be 90 deg.  and it is an outside wedding.  No rain in the forecast so at least we don't have to worry about that.  Sat is my wedding anniversary. :o(  and Habibta's b day.

Tango- I have made that recipe with tomatoes.  I got it from a Paula Deen show.  they were good.   I like to dip bread in the juice that ends up in the bottom of the pan.

Got to get busy.  Have a great day.

Re: The Rose Room ***Wednesday July 9th, 2008***

    Good Morning everyone.

Kelly's Mission: Take a look at the gadgets and small appliances in your kitchen. The toaster, can opener, coffee maker, microwave etc.  Just the ones you use on a regular basis.  Get the crumbs out of the toaster, dust off the coffee maker, clean the blades of your can opener and wipe down the outside of your microwave.  If you have time and want to you can boil some water in a cup in the microwave and let the steam loosen up anything stuck on the inside.

Don't be dragging out every small appliance you own and scrub them.  Just wipe down the fingerfrints, dust, drips, dried food particles on the most used items.  Make sure you unplug them before you clean them!

We were having a good time till I got a call from SIL saying our alarm was ringing.  She had a test done yesterday and when she got home she had 3 calls from the security company.  Then I got a call from my other SIL that she and her DH were at my house because the security co. called her at 7:00pm.  Well today I'll be calling the security co. to have someone come out and check everything.  Two weeks or so ago I had the alarm go off and it was the motion detector in the hall.  This time I wasn't around to find out the sorce of the alarm trigger but I suspect the same motion unit.  Having the police here so many times means I'll probably be getting a fine for having them respond to a false alarm.  Better that than we come home to a ransacked house!

As far as winning.... not!  We won enough to keep playing but no bragging rites on this trip.  Lets just say we paid for our room at the slots.  LOL

Tried a new restaurant, Patsy's at the Hilton.   It's the first Patsy's that opened outside of NYC.  For 60 years it has claimed to be the favorite Italian restaurant of Frank Sinatra, lots of celebrity endorsements and full of pictures of the rich and famous.  With no reservations we stopped and asked if we could be seated for dinner and within 15 mins. we had our table.  It was a little after 7:00 and people that had reservations were just about finished eating.  We had a good meal, but not great, IMO.  DH said my Veal Marsala was better than Patsy's.  That made me feel good.  I told DH that my Linguine/Seafood dinner couldn't hold a candle to Mama Lina's!   Both of the dishes were just very different than what we were used to.  We are not Italian but we know what we like.  Wink

Hope all of the wilting Roses feel better soon.

{{{{{Fluffy}}}}} - It's been one thing after another for you.  Hope you can catch a break soon.  Enjoy DD's graduation party Sat.

Tango - The recipes sound good.  I think tomatoes would be very good that way.  Did you plant Zucchini this year?  How are they doing?  My SIL sent over 4 nice ones but ours form then rot!  I've given up on them but DH wanted to try again.  Tomatoes are far from ripe.  We had such a cold wet spring that we got them late.  Being farther north doesn't help either.  Sad  My basil is beautiful and I've been using it for a few weeks now.

Lynn - Glad to hear that you can get to Disneyland with the DGKs

{{{{{Maizey}}}}} - You have so much going on these days.  I'm guilty of cleaning the kitchen, living room, dining room and 1 bathroom then closing the doors to the rest of the house for "company".  Hope you can spend some good time with Mary Beth and not be cleaning/working all day.

After a busy weekend and the AC trip, now comes pay back.  lol  I am so far behind in everything!  Just the laundry alone looks like Mt. Washmore!

Have a great day.  Stay cool.  TTYL

Re: The Rose Room ***Wednesday July 9th, 2008***

Top of the morn'n, Roses! A hot one here today. Not much humidity tho so I'm ok with it! Just so happy to see the sunshine.

Glad to see you  back, Dori and Pip!  I cat sit for a friend here and she has an alarm system, Dori. I'm always so careful....and afraid....that I mite set it off! It would wake the dead! Hope you get it resolved. I would think the security co would be responsible for any fines if it's their faulty eqipment!  I've heard Patsy's is very good...the one in New York. I don't think the sequels are ever as good as the home base ones. I always thnk my veal marsala is better than restaurants too.

We had a nice surprise evening out last nite. DE called and her  brother is in town and they asked us to have dinner at our local bistro.  We had a really nice time. I had a piece of Ahi Tuna that was not edible. Left it on my plate...tasted like very old fish. Thank goodness they took it off the bill.  Her brother is sooooo nice and we had a lovely time.

Maizey, if it's one thing (like Fluffy's 10,000 things, LOL)  no one looks at the house!!! Dusting, a clean bathroom and that's it for me for big gatherings now!  Give them lots of G&T"s...they'll have so much fun they won't notice the dust  bunnies. And honestly, do YOU really look around when you''re at their house??? Enjoy your time with MaryBeth! Sorry about Tom. Boy, can I relate! Joe missed a court date so there will be a bench warrant for him.  Just one thing after the other. He says he called the court  but you and I know he didn't! Tom's health is important but there is no way we can get in their heads to pound some sense.  It's depressing and disheartening.

I was so happy to hear that Jazz can go to Branson!  That just made my day!  I so wish we could all go but I  do know that circumstances will mean it just won't be possible for some of us.   We all should have purchased our airline tickets months ago. We will sure pay the price now! Hotel Six is looking  better all the time!

Glad the back is better Pat.  No more lifing of cash drawers for you!

Diana, that was sure a long drive for Steve.  I hate pushing like that in the car.  My hips and knees don't work that well when I sit for that length of time.  I could do it but I'd like a couple more days.  Poor Star.  Sounds like the meds haven't fully kicked in yet.  Takes time!

Fluffy, I just can't believe Shauna is 18!  Wow!  Could you email some pictures?  I know forced vacations are the pits.  I've never had to do that but I sure wouldn't like to try to do stuff on THEIR time!  But if it saves your job, that's the important thing! The car companies are just beginning to feel the heat.  I'm wondering what dealers are going to do with all the SUV;s that are being traded.  There will be a glut on the market! Think there already is, actually! I love mine and I'm not going to get anytlhing smaller...ever. Just don't feel safe in a toy car!

Lynn, wow, you got zapped!  Owie, owie, owie!  I think it's wonderful that you can go to dizzyland w/your grandkids. It just does't get any better than that and how fantastic the " bad guy" is paying you back. I hope you get it all! Can't think of a better way to spend it!  I know you'll have a great time and you'll never ever forget it and neither will they!!!!

I'm not sure I would like that recipe, Tango but think it would be great w/fresh matos.  Seems as if the heck would be cooked out of canned ones. Wouldn't they  be mush???  Think they would be better using fresh and not  baked so long. I love aspargas but only if they are fresh. Like to grill them with olive oil and a little Balsamic vinegar.

Maryann, Pip, Puff and all the Roses to drop in...a big hug!

    Hi Roses,

This is literally a "quick reply".  I'm way behind this AM due to making up for sleep I didn't get the night before!

It's good to see and read all of the posts this fine, sunny day.  I did finish that blasted ironing yesterday so today it's back to a new list with old items on it!

DS and family made it up to Lynden and set up their tent/camper.  Son sounded tired but very pleased with their shake down excursion.

In case you didn't see John Adams on HBO, it's on DVD now.  It's absolutely GREAT.  Five Stars.  I rented it and have passed it on to my neighbors. It comes in 3 DVDs.  I didn't realize it and didn't have my glasses on when I was at BBs so of course I just took one DVD and of Course it was the middle one which had 3,4,5 on it.  So the next day off I went to get the first  and second episode and the final two chapters.  Such a dumbie I can be......

    Have a grand day Roses,

    Jaz
