Have received email about preachers being taken off t.v. Truth or fiction?

The email said there is a petition and a meeting with the commission  that controls the air waves to take all preachers off T.V.  Didn't this same email float around a few years ago?

wouldn't suprise me one bit if some people tried!  Of course, it is a minority group that would try this, and expect to win, and could.  the thing is, there are many many shows on tv that I would never ever watch, some are gross and offensive.  have I ever tried to get them taken off?  Nope, I just SOB!  Someone out there enjoys it obviously, and there isn't anything I can do about it.  Why make a fuss?  But because we are talking religion, well, that changes everything, doesn't it?

It feels like a mouth in foot kinda day!

I read something not too long ago about an investigation into 6 televangelists that were scamming people out of lots of money.  I had never heard of any of them.  They weren't doing any good with the money they got---just pocketing it for themselves.  I haven't heard anything about ALL tv preachers.  Don't watch them anyway.  I don't believe in paying someone to supposedly pray for me.  Friends and family can do just as good a job of it.  And they wouldn't charge me!   LOL

    Well, turn-about's fair play, right?

If there's a comedy or drama which mentions religion anywhere, some religious group will demand that it be taken off the air.

If there's a comedy or drama which fails to mention religion anywhere, some religious group will demand that it be taken off the air.

Anyone can circulate a petition.  Any group can request a hearing.

If they took all the shows off that talks and shows sex and crime, there would be hardly anything to watch on TV.

... so maybe people would stop watching TV  Yes

I don't know about that. Why would there be so much of it on TV? Thank goodness for the remote control. If I don't like what I see off it goes.

I remember about 40 or so years ago, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans' show got cancelled because they refused to quit singing a hymn on their show. One hymn! I always admired them for standing up for what they believed.

Wondering if this has anything to do with the Fairness Doctrine (equal time for all sides on radio and maybe TV) coming up before Congress again.  It was declared out in the Reagan years and now its time has come up for renewal.  If the stations have a religious program, they have to balance it with an opposite view.  Right and left, equal time.  A big mess to oversee.  Hope they leave it up to the viewer/listener to judge what to see/hear.  Another government interference in our choices IMHO.

Same as those infamercials.  They butter up their product, then drastically drop the price, all to get your money.  If you believe that it will be worth your money, you put out a risk, some might be rewarded, others not.  Same with religion.  I know of one tv evangelist who our friends send money too, they strongly belive this guy.  Even though he has been under investigation, proven many things about what he does that is lies and all he wants is money.  But he fools many people, and those people say that the media is just attacking him because he is a christian.  they won't listen to the truth!  nothing I can do except to warn them.  I too have spent money foolishly, and I am positive I will do it again.  One day, those lying cheats will have to answer for all this too.

I received that same e-mail and even though the sender claimed to have already verified it on snopes.com, I checked it out for myself.  It's a lie/rumor that has been circulating on the Internet since 1995!  Maybe if enough people take the time to check it out for themselves, this rumor can finally die.

I know about the investigation of the 6 ministries also.  I am a giver into 2 of those ministries.

Comments like this are not so good.  I think you should go to www.preachersmoneynu.com and read the book.  It might help you understand some things about what is really going on.
