Gum all over the clean laundry

DS left some chewing gum in his pocket and it went through the laundry.  Now I have gum on everything.  What can I do to get out the spots of gum?  I have not put anything into the dryer yet.

Try to pick off as much as you can.  You can try rubbing the spots with an ice cube, which is supposed to make it easier to remove.  Scrape with a table knife.  Then spray with something like Spray & Wash or some other laundry pre-treatment spray.  Wash again.  Yell at DS.  Good luck!

You can also try thero if you can find it.  I have been looking for about a year!!!!!  But I don't know where to look in the store either!!!Embarrassed  I just had to throw away my sons comforter because he got gum all over it, he also had to pay for a new one!!!!!

I was afraid to even talk to DS last nite cuz I wanted to kill him.

I normally check all the pockets before doing the laundry but I was in a hurry to get this load done and so it is my fault too.  Not so much of my fault but I do take some of the blame.

Peanut butter will dissolve it.  I'm not sure if you'll be left with the oil stains from the peanut butter, though.

Better yet - hand DS the ice cubes, butter knife and laundry spray and let him go at it!

akfishergirl, will the lighter fluid take out color?  The load of laundry was dark colors like jeans and navy blue shirts.

Gail.. It will break down the oil and remove the gum and the color will not come out!! I have used it for years on grease stains (on the boat I always seemed to have my "best" shirt on when I needed to work on something!) and several times for "gum" when the kids were small*LOL*  get a good stiff toothbrush to work with too!  It works on color crayon too!

I just did this 3 weeks ago. Do as Debbie says with the scraping & all. I sprayed it then with Oxy-Clean stain remover.I had to scrape again after I sprayed. You can tell if you get all the gum by turning inside out & seeing if the spray penetrated...if not spray the underside as I had to do & scrape again on right side. I laundered as usual & it was all gone.......

    Good Luck!

Thanks all!!!!   I'll be going home after work armed with a whole bunch of choices on how to work the gum out.  I'll report back with my findings and hopefully NO venting!!  LOl

Mom always used Lestoil for icky stuff like this, but it's hard to find it @ stores these days.  Some still carry it, and I used to be able to find it @ Wal-Mart.
