    Healthy Choices Weekender 7/12-13/08

    Good morning everyone.

Another sunny day here, and today it will reach 90 degrees.  That's a really hot one for us, but I know it would be a welcome cool down for you, Vammie.  Of course when we reach those temps during the afternoon there's always a chance of some thunder storms.

DH took Ken, Judy and the trips to the airport early this morning.  The trips were so excited because this was their first time flying.  They just couldn't wait to fly through a cloud.  They'll be staying on the Gulf Coast near Tampa and I'm sure they'll be full of lots of stories when they get back.  The grass/hair cups grew so much they had to make a stop here two days ago to give them hair cuts.  That project turned out really well, although I'm the one who ended up maintaining them. I just have to remember to water them every other day.

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY VAMMIE.Happy Birthday I know you've been celebrating for days, but today it's official.  I hope your day is special and the celebration continues.

Be back a little later, but have to leave soon for some shopping.  Have a good weekend and God bless.  Jo Ann

oops......Sorry Barb, we were posting at the same time.  I moved your post over here.  It seemed easier to move the smaller one.  Hope you don't mind.  I think I  moved a little too much of it.  LOL

Good morning everyone and thanks for the birthday wishes.  Yes, this time it's for real...the real day...and just about an hour til the exact time...1237 pm.  Now that I'm mature, along with Barb and Viny....do I have to be proper??  Big Smile

This will be a fun day....going out to lunch shortly with a friend...Carolyn, my decorating friend and then to DD's for her chicken fried steak tonight...yummo!  DD made my cake...it's a lemon cake with raspberry filling and lemon buttercream frosting...a real "from scratch" cake.  Somewhere today I have to make time to pay a couple of bills!

I talked to Shirley last evening.  She was home but was tired.  Her living room got painted while she was gone  and I think the dining room too.  So everything is fresh and clean and ready to decorate.  What fun!

OK...got to get busy.  I'll check in later if I have time.

Good afternoon. We had some rain earlier but looks like it’s over for now. This morning I went shopping for Dad and took it over to him, he had a dentist appt (still trying to get there) but didn’t feel well last night (nausea) so he cancelled it. It seems he’ll never get to the dentist! Then DH and I went to the bank to apply for a home equity line of credit in case we buy this place in WI. We are meeting the realtor there tomorrow morning to see the inside. She said there are others available in the same complex so we may look at more. I told DH we have to take his car which is older than mine so they may drop the price lower, LOL. I’ll let you know what happens.

JoAnn, yesterday the humidity here in the morning was 93% and it wasn’t raining! It did go down some during the day tho.  Today is also humid but only about 80° out. I’ll bet this is a trip your trips will always remember. I can just imagine their big shining eyes on the plane.

Happy Birthday Verna! Cake39 this time? LOL It sounds like you have a nice day planned.

Marti, glad to see you here, I hope everything is going ok.

    Have a good day, Sue

Good Afternoon!   Just finished lunch and will move my waters in a minute.   It is one of those day where it is so still and almost 90.   It was hotter yesterday with a breeze and I’ll take that anytime over this.   So I only did what I had to out there and now I’m inside.

Kim and her friend brought over one of those 5 ft or so windmills that they got at a yard sale this morning – they picked it up for DH.   I appreciate the thought, but I hope we don’t get too many finds – we’re supposed to be downsizing.

I don’t know if I mentioned that DH is still trying to get the dining room floor level.   The first try went all wrong – the stuff cracked and he had to shovel it up and put it in the trash.   So he’s trying again today, using a different method.   How long has our dining room been in this state of disarray?   This is the story of my life – nothing ever gets done in a timely manner.   Guess that’s the price for volunteer help – I can’t push him any better than what he’s doing.   I just had to vent a little on that – I’m so used to it that I don’t really get real mad, but sometimes it bugs me.

Jo Ann, what an exciting trip for the trips – I couldn’t resist that.   I was thinking about their little hair cups while on a walk the other day – funny the things I think about.

That was a quick stop-in for Barb, wonder where she was going??

Hi, Marti, hope today is going ok for you and Joe.

And last but not least, best wishes to the Birthday Girl, our Verna.

Verna a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY Cake for a very special person hope you have many more.

Marti glad to see you posting I pray that everything is going alright.

OGS had a track meet this morning about 4 miles from are place so he spent the night here. Then I went with him and took pictures, he did not place but did finish the 5K run. Told him next year I would run with him just to show him how its done. LOL Might give me the incentive to get some of this FAT off, this weeks vacation has been very bad on my weight plan.Sad

Some one asked about my comforter and DW did a real good job on picking that out its masculine with light and dark blues that match my bedroom very nicely.

Have a nice weekend and God bless everyone.

Happy Birthday Verna!!!   Hope you have a wonderful day!

It is after midnight here, and I have just come home from a colleague's 50th birthday party.   It was outside.  She lives in a small village, and the atmosphere was nice.  All the neighbors and friends came and brought their instruments.   In the end, there was a little orchestra with accordians, drums, guitars.  They seemed to know every Finnish folk song in the books, and there was a lot of music.   Kind of different.  But the mosquitoes were not there to sing, I can tell you that!

Just wanted to wish Verna a happy day.  Will come back tomorrow for a longer chat! lusi

    Re: Healthy Choices Weekender 7/12-13/08

What a fun day you're having, Vammie.  That cake sounds like something DH would love. If you have DD's recipe for it, I would love it.  What  a nice birthday cake that would make for him next week.

Marti, I'm so glad to see you here.  Prayers have been going out for you and Joe and your family.  When does Joe go for his next test ot check up.  I'm not sure when that's happening, now that things were postponed.  I hope he's getting a little stronger each day.

Sue, have fun looking at the vacation homes.  Hope you find something you'll love.  Your humidity gets as high as ours does.  This morning when I left for shopping it was like a steam bath outside, it was so humid.  They weren't predicting rain till later tonight and tomorrowk, but when I came out from shopping there was a downpour and thunder and lightening.  We waited a while with everyone else outside the store, but then, just had to leave and so got completely drenched.  It actually felt pretty refreshing, but both DH and had to change into dry clothes when we got home. The sun came out for a while and it got really humid again.  Thank God for air conditioning.

Maureen, I hope DH has luck this time leveling the dining room floor. Don't you just hate it when a project goes all wrong and you have to start over. I should say, doesn't your DH just hate it.  I hope it works this time for him.  It sounds really hot there too, but you are lucky to not have the high humidity.  It just started raining again, here. This was all supposed to hold off till tomorrow.  DH wanted to cut the grass, but he's forced to stay inside, which is torture for him.  lol  He would rather be outside puttering around or working than anything else.  That's why the shelf I asked himm for in the kitchen about two years ago still isn't there.  lol

Barb, if you're out there, I hope you see where I moved your post to.  I never saw one move that way before.  First I moved just the message, and then thought no one would know who it was from, so I went back and moved the whole thing.  And I thought it was going to be easier to move yours because it was so short.  lol  Hope you are having a good day shopping.

Viny, glad your comforter turned out to be something you like.  Pat knows your taste well enough to pick the right thing for you.  Did your OGS participate in any of the field events.  Tom was very good at track and we used to love spending the day at the track meets.  We took lots of pictures too.  That was when DH just had to buy a special camera that would take a series of pictures in stop motion.  What fun we had.  Tom broke the city record for the long jump once.  He was a really fast runner and did the shorter distance and the relay runs.  I can remember all you could smell down on the field for the field events was Ben Gay for sore muscles.

Just waiting for DH to come home for dinner.  He must be tired. He was up all night, on duty at the FD till midnight.  They had one heart attack, a fire and a disoriented patient at a nursing home that had to be evaluated, so from 6 to midnight they were pretty busy.  Then he had to get up at 3:30 to get DS and his family to the airport this morning.  You used to have to be there one hour early, now it's two hours.  We haven't flown since all of this new security stuff has been put in effect.  He couldn't go to the gate with them either, just had to drop them at the entrance for their terminal.  Things have changed so much.

Have a nice evening, everyone. Jo Ann

    Good evening friends,

    Happy Birthday Verna.

I'm happy to be home at last.

Thank you for the beautiful flowers and cards.

I will try to chat longer tomorrow. I had lots of company today and feel tired tonight.

I'm not having any trouble with the stairs. I am so thankful for that.

The painters did a very nice job. The rooms are so clean and bright.

Marti I am so sorry to hear about Joe's SM

I will keep you and Joe in my prayers.

Good evening all! Had to jump on here real quick & wish Verna a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! It sounds like it was going to be a good one. Chicken Fried Steak sounds so good.... YUMM & the cake too! And what does proper mean? That doesn’t sound like fun at all! Stay the way you are! Perfect!

Welcome back Shirley! Soooo good to see you posting again! You were sorely missed... So, what colors did they paint the livingroom & diningroom? How is the knee feeling? Take it easy for awhile.

Marti & Joe, sorry about SM but she’s in a better place. No pain for her now. Prayers being said for good results on all tests...

JoAnn, I bet the trips are still excited, so many new things happening in their little lives this week. I still have not been on a large plane. We’ve had small planes that DH flew but that’s all I’ve ever been on.

Sue, maybe we should all come to your new vacation house next year? LOL We can help you paint & decorate while Viny & Jack go fishing? Can’t wait to hear what you see up there. How long does it take you to get to WI?

Maureen, I had to LOL about your windmill... downsizing, a novel concept... Vent away, we all need a place to do that sometime. Your floor has to be so frustrating to DH too. Good luck with it.

Viny, how nice to see you here on a weekend. Are you starting training tomorrow for the fun next year? LOL I think you could do it with enough training. You did well on losing weight when you were really concentrating on it.

Lusi, your party sounds like it was fun. I have always like accordians, took lessons many decades ago. I should drag it out while DH is at Lynn’s this next week.... Talk about needing to get rid on some things, that would be one thing.

Well, I rejoined Weight Watchers on Thursday night. I hope my head is ready for it again. I only missed 3 weeks but gained 4.4 lbs over that time. Dale is gone for a week so I’m cleaning out the freezer & frig of things we don’t need or use or that have been in there for years... The garbage man will love me on Monday... Oldest grandson is at his grandparents in the next town so I’ll try to take him for a day or so when I don’t have to work. He wants to go to our friends & see the ponies. If he has carrots in his hand, they’ll love him.

About time for bed. Till tomorrow, keeping you all in my prayers. Pat A

    Re: Healthy Choices Weekender 7/12-13/08

I think the floor is going to work this time.   The stuff DH used seeks its own level and it's looking good.   I think he will be so relieved if he wakes in the morning and it looks ok.   I will be so happy because then he can go forth with the tile.

I packaged up hamburger, steaks and salmon for the freezer and cleaned and prepped 4 lbs of strawberries.   I don't like doing that but this time it went quickly.   We bbq'd some wild salmon tonight and next time I think I will cook it in foil on the grill.  It is such a lean fish that it needs some steam and lemon juice.  I would do it in parchment in the oven, but I'm not heating up the kitchen for anything.

Pat, isn't it amazing how the pounds add up when you get away from Weight Watchers?   Guess we need constant reminders.   My lunch was so filling and not bad - I had chicken cut very fine mixed with a black bean combo of beans, peppers, tomato, onions and don't remember what else, but anyhow, made tacos out of that.   With the small corn tortillas, 2 were only 110 calories and I only added salsa, a smidgeon of cheese, some light sour cream and was it ever good.   Then had spinach/lettuce salad with it.   I'm trying to do better and have kept up my journaling.

Wonder why our pictures got taken away?   I put another smaller one on there, am wondering if that will disappear.

Barb, do you like your computer glasses?   I'm asking because I think that's what I'm going to have to get.   I think I get too close without my glasses.

See you tomorrow.   We're thinking of having picnic for lunch, but I told DH I want to go to the mtns. where it's cooler.    It did get better this afternoon with a breeze picking up and tonight was really nice while I was out weeding.

Need to call it a day - hard to get to bed early with it light so late.

Shirley, I'm so happy for you that you are home.   And it's great you have no problem with the stairs.   Sounds like you are really progressing.

    Re: Healthy Choices Weekender 7/12-13/08

    Good morning everyone,

It's rainy and dark again, this morning.  This is supposed to be bringing in a cold front and tomorrow will only be arouind 76, my kind of summer weather.  Too bad I have a hair apmt at 10, otherwise it's the kind of day DH and I like to take a day trip.  The rest of the week is supposed to be sunny and in the 80s, so it sounds like nice weather for a while

Pat, hearing you talk about how quickly you gained without going to WW, made me that much more certain that I have to go back too.  I'll just have to work it into my busys Thursdays and spend a little less time at Mom's so that I can get things started for dinner, go to the meeting and then do a quick dinner for us when I get home.  I didn't know your DH is a pilot.    How much fun that must have been, flying  in his plane.  I was in a small plane once. A friend owned a plane and offered me a ride and I loved it.  Once you're up in the bigger planes, you can't even tell you're flying, not so in the small one. It was really fun and once in a while kind of scary.

Shirley, welcome home.  How amazing that you can already do the steps without any problems.  How nice to have the rooms painted while you were gone.  What colors did they paint them?  I'll bet you were so comfortable , finally being in your own bed again.  I'm so glad your surgery went well and you're doing so well.

Maureen, that self leveling sruff DH used sounds like the ideal solution.  I hope it worked and he's happy with it this morning.  I wish I could use it on the mantle over the fireplace in my family room.  It's a natural one piece, piece of wood and looks nice, but the top is just uneven enough for me to have a dificult time putting anything up there that has to be level.  I have these little plastic wedges that I use, but you can only do so much with them. A picnic in the mtns sounds nice for the day.

Tom's coming over for dinner .  Since there's so much rain, he can't do yard work anyway.  He's working on a waterfall for the pond in his yard, and had to put all of that on hold.  It will be nice to see him again.  He's bringing little Gizmo with him.  Gizmo is a pappilon and has the best house manners.  LOL  He's the smartest little dog.  Tom's watching him for Laura, who is on vacation with her girls.  It's really their national dance competition in TN, but thery're turning it into a weeks vacation.

Have a nice day today and God bless.  Jo Ann

    Re: Healthy Choices Weekender 7/12-13/08

    Good morning.

I've mopped myself into the computer room so thought as long as I'm here, I'd better say Hello.

This is a Busy time for BizeeBarbie.

My Dsis and niece come today.  They have rented a house here for a week and will be staying there.  Then my niece goes back to Indiana and my Sis will come here to my house and stay another week.  Then we have the family reunion here at our house.

So reading all of you talking about going back to WW really makes me feel guilty.  I know I wouldn't stick to the plan right now but I've been considering it too.

Maureen, thanks for passing along the article about your sister and the fire.  I hope things have settled down for her.  That's too scary. Surprise

We finally found a Mattress that we have been shopping for all week.  And found it right here in town.  The other places wouldn't come down on price and charged for delivery.  This guy just recently started this business and is willing to deal.  He was here a few years ago and then moved but decided to come back here after they had their baby .  They want to raise her here.  Anyway, he took over $100 off plus he gave us temperpedic pillows and mattress cover for half off.  Free delivery and will take the old set away.

I also found a sectional I love but there is no way it will fit in my weird front room.  Darn it !  Well, it would fit if we didn't have a TV.  I don't need it anyway.  Just wanted it.

DD and her significant other have decided to get married.  I think they are planning just a small family thing out at a creek by a waterfall.  They are hikers and outdoors people so it suits them.

They are looking at buying a Condo here in town.  They've been looking all over for an affordable house to buy  in this area and they are not to be found.  They have some new  condos and the one they like is a 4 bedroom so I think they will get that.  The location is close to everything.  And only 3 or 4 miles from our house.

Shirley, it's wonderful to have you back.  We missed you !!

Well gang, I have sooooo much to do, I must get off here.

Just thinking about cooking dinner offends me.  It's too hot !!

I don't think I can get away with sandwiches ....Maybe DH will fix burgers.

I'm sure the kids will all be here. They can't wait to see my Sis.
