Star [*] Frugal Friends...How Did *YOU* Do At The Grocery Store This Week?!?

Happy Friday Afternoon, Folks.  Hope y'all are staying Cool & Comfy! Cool

I have to admit I was surprised at the prices of many items but I was even more *pleasantly* surprised at the number of Super Sales and Loss Leaders.

For example, I got 3 jars of Francesco Rinaldi Spaghetti Sauce 3 for $4. Yes

    Red Sweet Peppers were 2/$3.

I found some really pretty Oranges for $1.49/lb.  They came from the Land Down Under. Wink

I also got a pound and a half of Boneless Country Style Pork Ribs for a mere $2.45. I'm going to cut them up for stir fry. Smile

Overall, I was rather happy with how well I did.  Even the Ronzoni Wheat Pasta was on $ale so I stocked up big time. Yes

So...How'd YOU do this week at the Grocery Store?!?

    Krissy~~~

I am so frugal I did not go this week, LOL, but when I do go I rarely buy anything that is not on sale. You did good! :-)

Thank you most kindly, Mountain Man! Smile  Considering I had to get Paper Towels and Ziplock bags and other misc. stuff, I was quite tickled with myself...especially since I didn't check out any of the sales flyers this week.  Just ran out of time for some reason. Huh?

How often do you do your Grocery Shopping?  Nosey people need to know, ya know...Cool

I didn't do to well this week....I didn't buy a whole lot, but I didn't have time to go through my coupons, so I spent money I could have saved.... :(

I usually go shopping every Monday after I get paid...

    I think I can, I think I can, I think I can do it!!!! :)

I only bought tampons and pads, so I didn't make out very well. Man, those necessities are costly!

Well, you know that my putting it off makes next week's shopping list longer, don't you? LOL! So, not really sure if it helps to avoid the dreaded chore. Hubby usually makes a list of things on sale. Some weeks I go, some I don't, but next week there is always another sale going on so I save on something no matter when, or how often I go. And sooner or later, what I want is on sale. I bide my time for good deals. I do buy some things elsewhere for better savings, like the $ stores, or Wal-Mart for certain things. Or with coupons.

That's why it can still be called the Curse, BobsMom.  Everytime you see the price of the necessities, you feel the need to Curse...a lot! Surprise

I spent a lot, but it's mostly things I'm out of and needed to buy. Lots of on grocery items.  For the month it will be a little over $300.00.  Right now neither of us is very hunger, so I'm not cooking much nor are we eating much.  When it's hot neither of us care about eating.  So very light meals.

I did notice on my register slip that I was over charged on at least one item.  Do you go over your slip with what you remember the price to be.  I will have to investigate that.

I've been shopping the parameter of the store, hard to save much in those areas. I did get Hillshire Farm Kielbasa buy one get one free & 28oz cans of tomato puree & crushed tomatoes for $.88 each.  Total savings according to my slip were $39.46 & which brought my bill down $103.  Not too bad overall.

    MorningStar

FWIW, I always check my receipt before I leave the store.  That way, if a boo boo was made, I can get it corrected right there and then.

Hope the store makes good on the overcharged item you noticed. Yes to you for checking your receipt.  Afterall, computers do make errors! Wink

I, too, saved by not going.  But to be fair, I didn't get back to town until Monday night, so there wasn't much need.  You'll hear the screaming from Winco long about Sunday morning.

In response to the checking your receipt.  I try and get behind someone who is not finished checking out yet.  Put all my items on the counter and then I am able to watch them as they ring them up.  If I have a question about a price, I am able to ask then.  Our local store always has at least 3 or 4 mistakes on my receipt every week.  I watch them like a hawk.  Everyone complains but they don't do anything about it.  There are a lot of hispanics and people who don't watch, so they make extra money that way.

Re: Frugal Friends...How Did *YOU* Do At The Grocery Store This Week?!?

Went to the store on my weekly trip to get mostly milk and fruit.  Had a handful of store coupons from newspaper/flyers and one was "save $5 on $50."  Didn't think I would spend that much but just went over and so got $5 back and with other coupons (they are department-specific, not product-specific) I saved $10.20 plus the 60 cents for my bring-'em-back bags.

That's not good for me on coupons, but didn't buy anything that used "double manufacturer's coupons" this week.  I always try to buy the loss leaders and specials and we do really well for this area for two people.  Did my half-year totals this week and we averaged $43 for food and $4 for non-foods per week, up about $4 a week over last year.  Prices have gone up, I can tell. You can only cut so far before you hit the bare bones.

Very very rarely have mistakes on the receipt and can usually catch the checker as she goes.
