    Healthy Choice Weekender 7/19 -7/20

Good Morning everyone.  I'm wide awake with a million things on my mind so I'll get us started and attempt to be back in bed by 3:30...
I have scanned over all the post and I agree, we can all do the WW by helping each other.  I have gone back, but will only go once a month to weigh in to keep my lifetime active without paying and to get all the new literature. But let's think about helping each other with WW and the exercise program.  I've missed all week exercising and I don't feel as good so I'll get started back tomorrow. My goal is to get back in all my fall clothes, it's been a struggle with my summer clothes and I don't intend for this to continue.  I do realize the older we get the harder it is to get one lb. off and our weigh redistributes as we age and I think that happened to me while I sat around waiting for the foot to heal.. I'll make my menu out this weekend and get started posting Monday.  I know I don't eat enough when I do this so Verna, I'll need your help, please.

Another hot miserable day tomorrow, I can imagine what the air condition bills will be,  I hope all you received the picture of Randi Jo.  Those eyes are staying blue and we are all thrilled, Kaci's turned a brown/grey, pretty but Randy wanted one blue eyed and Chris has really dark dark eyes so we kept thinking they would turn brown.

Viny, I read about all the good veggies you were getting.  I envy you a garden, but next spring I will have an open place behind the house and my plans are to dump leaves there this fall and use it for a small garden again.  I did have fresh corn, okra, cucumbers, tomatos, peppers and a fresh peach pie with no sugar.  Now tomorrow, I'll have a tomato sandwich for lunch and get the protein and veggies for dinner meal.

Ok, I'm going to bed, Joe has been up  5 times to see what I was worrying about and finally asked if he was worrying me.  HELLO

    Marti

Hi.  Marti, I hope you got some sleep!!   I don't know who you do it.

It is pleasantly warm here.  Not too hot, though.  And we really appreciate a stretch of good weather during this cool and wet summer we have been having.

I traded in my bike today on a better model.   So now I can cruise around in style.   It was a choice between red and white, and I took the bright red one.   It has seven gears, and I don't even feel the hills!

I heard from DH today that he will come home for a week (laundry service!) and turn around for 3 weeks in Ethiopia.   Better for me to keep my mouth shut.   But if I can make him feel real sorry for me, there may be some new furniture in the deal for me.   I'm really tired of my living room chairs.  Gotta play my cards right on this one.     A new washing machine may be more urgent, though.

I hope you all have a relaxed and healthy weekend!   lusi

Good afternoon. It really started out wet here but has stopped for now. Took Dad to the doctor this morning. So Far today:

1 bowl bran flakes sprinkled with raisins and Grape Nuts

    Skim milk

    Fake crab w/ sauce

2 slices light bread and butter

    1 slice WW 3 pt cake frosted w/ f/f cool whip mixed w/ s/f Jell-O (lemon)

Not sure about dinner yet. I went to Curves after work yesterday and thought about going this morning but it was pouring and I chickened out.Storm

Unknown to me DH made an appt w/ the realtor to look at the place again tomorrow. He wants to get a closer look underneath. I guess I have to go too, sigh…

Marti, those pics of Randi Jo are so adorable. I hope you got some more sleep.

Lusi, just have those new chairs delivered while he is gone and see if he notices! LOL Enjoy that new bike, do you have to lock it up over there?

Back to my grocery list now, I may go out later when the stores are less crowded. Sue

Ha Ha Sue.  Maybe he wouldn't notice the chairs, but he would certainly notice the bank statement!

Yes, we have to lock our bikes when we leave them anywhere in town.  They are kept in our garage at home.

Sounds like you are being very thorough about the real estate.  Our own experience is that our second place is Leo's pride and joy.   I could happily sell it off and not miss it at all.  But since we have it, I try to enjoy it whenever I can.   But we have a big plot of land and old buildings,  and it needs constant work.   I may feel differently if it were a  place that required nothing but an easy chair!

    Bedtime here....good night!  lusi

Hello everyone.  Another busy day for me.  We went to a  big warehouse sale by one of the hotsy-totsy local furniture stores....looking for the wicker.  They had a table with six chairs that I really liked but no other pieces.  So we headed back home, stopped for lunch at a place called The Local Diner....had a yummy burger.  Then off to check another Home Depot for wicker stuff...they had one set but I didn't really like it.

It's hotter than hades out there.  The sun is bearing down and I actually got sunburned even though I was outside only to get in and out of the car.  I'm so ready for cooler weather.  And rain....really need some rain.

Didn't do too well on eating yesterday.

    B...cheese toast

L..Olive Garden soup and salad.  Ate almost the whole bowl of salad, and only one bowl of the Pasta Fagioli soup, 2 1/2 breadstick and raspberry lemonade

     S...five gingersnaps

D..half a small pizza with mushrooms, pepperoni and onion

And of course  lots of water and tea

Not doing so good today either but seeing it in writing is making me more aware.

Tomorrow I hope to accomplish a bit more here at home.  I've done nothing today except a load of laundry.  Housekeeper was here so stayed out of her way!

I hope we all sleep well tonight....I'm going to look on line for wicker in pattern (?) that I liked the table and chairs.

    Later dudes!

Re: Healthy Choice Weekender 7/19 -7/20

Hello to everyone.   I'm early for Sunday, late for SaturdaySmile     I got on earlier but got interrupted by my sister and then had to fix dinner.   I had stir fry planned but changed it to egg sandwich with a cup of cherries.   Will do stir fry tomorrow night.   I didn't journal today, so can't report.   But it's been a good day for eating and I walked this morning.   I ate lots of fruit - a banana, whole grapefruit, about 6 apricots and the cherries.   Only had about 2 veggies, but did have my 1/2 c. beans.   For milk, I like the vanilla soy mixed with chocolate soy - probably already told you that.

Don't think I had any candy or any chips.   Those are my downfalls, especially junior mints.

I have been feeling better in my clothes so got on the scale this morning and have dropped 1.6 lbs. since the last time I weighed.   That had to be at least a month ago - I was so sick of gaining, I just stopped weighing.   So now I need to follow my advice to Shirley - it's a start and continue on from here.   Getting close to bedtime - we are at 88 degrees, so think no windows open tonight.   We are going out to breakfast tomorrow morning to a new (to us) restaurant at the mouth of another canyon.   You have to know we have all kinds of canyons with all the ski resorts.   I'm sure I'll be inside tomorrow as we keep getting hotter till Tuesday.

Re: Healthy Choice Weekender 7/19 -7/20

Looks like I'm starting Sunday too, my sleep is nil, I was up until 5 this morning and awake within 2 hours, makes me feel like the devil the next day, but Joe isn't sleeping either and that doesn't help and normally he never has problems sleeping.

Lusi, your bike sound like it would match Verna's red car.  That is really good exercise, I need to get my bike out of the basement pump up the tires and ride again. We have no flat land to ride in our neighborhood so I got tired of fighting the long hills, yet it was good for me.   I had to laugh at Sue's suggestion about surprising Leo with the new furniture. Brought back memories of Joe trading cars twice in 2 weeks and then went back and traded back for the one he had first and i really wanted a clothes dryer and we couldn't afford it, I had never brought a large item without both of us checking it out, but after his paying to get back the first car, I went to the appliance store ordered a dryer to be delivered on Sat.  I told him, he didn't believe me until they delivered it.  That worked for a few years, then another car trade that cost, I went back ordered a microwave,( this was when they first became an item) ordered a new surface unit and oven, this was shortly after we built this house and I didn't like my stove. Needless to say, I think he got afaird of what I'd do next,  We laugh about it now, but I'm sure he didn't think it was funny then. Maybe you need to get the chairs as a gift to him.  I've even tried that. Things we do when we are younger
Maureen, congratulations on the weight loss.  I too had stayed away from the scales until I went back to WW.   I am doing better and making better choices this week, but Joe isn't eating well and that is rubbing off on me, I had a small kirsh for breakfast, 1/2 coffee, lot of water, no lunch but early dinner with cod fish, salad, tomatoes and marinated cucumbers, glass of tea.
I stayed busy all day and didn't snack until almost dinner and ate two maple nuts, no more in the house so I won't have that temptation anymore.
Barb, I hope the reunion goes  well, you are so brave to tackle this every year. Take next week to rest.
Viny, thanks for your prayers and kind words.  And thanks for getting us back on track with our posting, I agree with Verna, journaling certainly makes a difference.
Sue, are you at your goal weight?  You have done so well.  Good luck on checking out the house today.  Is it far from where you live?
Verna, we had another high 90's today too, just unbearable to be outside and Joe can't be in the heat, by mid afternoon he was climbing the walls. The table and chairs sound very nice, You'll find your wicker soon, this is the time of year to shop for that type furniture.   I guess we will check out the BR suite Joe found this week, if we like it and they will keep it until the house is complete, we may get that out of the way.  I'm looking at a leather sofa and keep telling myself I'm being foolish with all the sofa's I have in this house and one in the basement that I need to use.
I'm going back to bed, hoping for the best, church time will come early.
    Enjoy the day

Marti, I am very curious about your breakfast menu.  When you say you had a small kirsh, I begin to remember  my years in Switzerland.  Kirsh is a cherry liqueur that is put into the cheese fondue and then afterwards served as a digestive.  The Swiss say it will prevent the cheese from forming into balls in your stomach.   We used to have a little joke about that everytime we filled our glasses, that one more kirsh was necessary to prevent cheese balls.    But somehow, I can't picture you libating at breakfast, Marti!   So please tell me what is a kirsh!    Then again, I remember that you said you had pletny of ironing to do.........so I ask if you have taken my example.   Smile

I'll have a quiet Sunday here.  The boys are both working today.   I made waffles for their breakfast.   I think I will do the living room windows, and then I am officially done washing windows this summer.

    Have a great Sunday!   lusi

    Hello all.

Glad to see Viny has gotten the  Boot Camp started again.

I sure needed someone to jerk me up by the boot straps and get me back on track.

This week will be a bit difficult to try and stay on track but after next weekend, I don't forsee any big problems until next year at this time.

I'm ready to get back on track with you all.

I'm sure I've gained the same 5 lbs. I've been messing with since Jan.

My Sister will be coming to my house today for a week.  She and my niece have been renting a house but my niece left this morning.

She is very smart and resourceful......or more knowlegable about traveling than I.( I guess eveyone is since I'm not a traveler) Tongue Tied  Anyway, instead of bringing her bags, paying to have them checked, waiting for them at luggage and lugging them around, she UPSed them ahead.  She sent them to the motel where she spent the first night.  They were waiting for her in her room when she arrived .  She will send them home the  same way.  She said it only cost her about $8 more than checking them through at the airport and saved her all that hassle.

It's going to be another hot day but should cool a bit this week.

My sis and I are going to the City, probably tomorrow.  A little Retail Therapy is in order before we have to face the hordes of relatives coming next weekend, don't you think?

I'd better get off here and get something done.  I'll see you when I can.

Now, don't you all go and lose too much weight and make me suffer to catch up next week.  Wink

Good morning... well, its still morning here for a few more minutes. I went up to see Mom on Friday afternoon. Yesterday, I had an appt. for a haircut so that took up most of the day. Dh has pretty much finished the new deck - it ended up being bigger than what we had anticipated - we will learn to live with it. I mowed the lawn this morning and then helped dh clean up his mess from the deck. Its going to be hot here today; so, the rest of the day will probably be spent inside.

Lusi, I love your way of thinking regarding dh & the new chairs - it sounds like something I would do. I hope it works out for you. Your new bike sounds like a dandy.

Marti, its good to see you posting regularly again; however, I’m sorry you are having trouble sleeping though. I don’t know how you do it - you always have so much going on in your life. I hope Joe continues to feel better.

Maureen, we tried the shrimp on the grill last night. I marinated them in just a little Italian Pesto salad dressing. It is a new one by Kraft (very good by the way). We loved them. I will use the leftovers in a salad - should be very tasty. Thank you for posting that you had done this.

Barb, I know this will be a busy week for you. I hope that you don’t get too worn out before all the hordes of relatives arrive! Enjoy that retail therapy tomorrow.

Verna, you crack me up - "see ya later dudes!" Did you find someone to insulate the garage? I was thinking of you when I was down at dd’s - their garage is on the west side of the house and was very warm. They have one of this little tiny chest freezers in their garage and I wondered how hard it was having to work to keep things frozen. It made me think of you and your situation.

Shirley, if you’re lurking, I hope you are feeling better each day. I heard you came home to your livingroom and diningroom all freshly painted - how nice.

Viny, I can’t believe your carrots are ready. We had the first beets out of the garden a couple of days ago. They were so good - I roasted them in the oven the way lusi told us about. We have a couple of zucchini that are about 2" long - so, it won’t be long before we will be able to eat them. Our cilantro is going to seed already. It just sort of came up (didn’t get very tall) and went to seed. Maureen, do you have any ideas on why it did that? Do think it could be from the heat? I know cilantro doesn’t like heat.

I don’t think JoAnn has posted in a few days; was she going to be gone this weekend? Or, just busy?

I will start posting what I am eating in a few days - probably when I start WW again.

    Until later....

Good Afternoon!   Went out to breakfast and then took a drive, got home around noon.   This was such a scenic drive with all the greenery and wild flowers right down at the road – I don’t think we’ve been up that canyon for years.

Marti, humorous stories about you and Joe.   I hope both of you eventually get on track with your sleeping.

Lusi, this is turning into real vacation time with no one to worry about but yourself – enjoy!

Barb, this has to be a good time to not worry about your eating.   I’m sure you’ll come back with a vengeance when all the company has left.   Trying on some clothes tomorrow will make you more aware of what you gotta do.   I did that a couple of weeks ago and was very disgusted.

Jolynn, so glad you tried the shrimp and liked it.   If I had had any left over, I was going to put it in a salad too.   Speaking of beets, I did pick them all yesterday and was cooking them in water on the stove.   While I was outside they roasted themselves.   Now what I want to know is how DH can smell something burning, come into the kitchen, doesn’t see me there but doesn’t bother to check what’s cooking on the stove?   When I walked in, I just about died.   They were quite charred on the bottom, but I finished cooking in some new water and peeled them later.   They’re ok, just a little hint of burnt.

It’s already almost 100 degrees out there so I’m in for today.   We may get some showers this afternoon, it’s quite cloudy.   Talk more later…
