    Garage Sales

Did anyone go to any good garage/yard sales this weekend?   If so what goodies did you find?

I found a pretty Home Interior picture for .50 cents.   Can you believe that?   I found a lot of votive cups for .50 cents each.   Also a nice pieces of Carnival glass for $5.00.   Some childrens VHS movies from .50 to $2.00 each, a rug for $5.00 and two Heritage Mint porcelan dolls for $2.00 each.   Oh I also found a 22qt Mirro Pressure Cooker/Canner brand new still in the box for $12.00.  It's old, you can tell by the box but was never used.

What about you?   I would love to hear about your bargains.

Too hot here for many garage sales and the season is winding down until the Fall.  Did go to a townhouse sale (nice AC) and picked up a soap and lotion set in a wire holder (all new and full) for $4.   Not the usual great sale weekend when it's in the upper 90s.

Marie, post over in Budget Living and the gals there will tell you lots about yard sale bargains.

JerseyGal where is Budget Living?   I don't think I have heard of that before.

ETA:   Nevermind JerseyGal...I just found the Budget Living forum.   I scanned through a couple pages but didn't see anything about garage sales.   Thanks anyway.

We didn't hit any garage sales this weekend. We did go to the Habitat for Humanity surplus store. We picked up a stainless steel sink for our bathroom, fixtures included. Also we found the yellow paint we need to paint the wallls a progressive yellow. (Darker yellow at the bottom and as the wall progresses upward lighter shades of yellow.) The sink and fixture was $20 and the paint was $2.95/quart. We bought three quarts. I found an old cigar box on the floor while we were there and the cashier told me to look in the top of their trash dumpster because they just threw out a lot of cigar boxes. I came home with 9 of those for free. Pretty good haul for $29.00.

I didn't hit any garage sales, but I did go to 1 thrift store on Friday and 2 more on Saturday. The one Friday I got 4 school shirts for my DD for a quarter each. Then the one store on Saturday had everything 1/2 off. I got an antique bowl (that matches a set I have from DH's grandparents) for 5 cents! Plus some clothes for both of my DD's. It was fun seeing what all I could find for 1/2 off.

Wow...I wish our thrift stores were that cheap!  I'm thrilled to find shirts for the DS's for 2.00 or so...but .25!  That's great.

I went to 4 garage sales the other day because I had time, but was disappointed.  I hadn't been to any in months, because they seem like a waste of time, and once again, they were.  Unless they are big ones at schools or churchs, I just don't bother.  I drive all that way, spending money on gas, and then get nothing.  Easier to go to thrift stores, but I miss garage sales

Jennie Husker...those cigar boxes can make wonderful purses. My sister has made several.

The shirts aren't usually that cheap. They are priced with different colored price tags. Each week, one color tag is 1/2 off. The following week, that tag is .25. That way their stock is constantly rotating. You know that in 5 weeks or so, there is all different clothes. I like to go the day they change it to a quarter, then I can find lots of cheap stuff. The one store is about 1/2 mile from me, so I go almost every week, and I have gotten almost enough school shirts for my DDs. Cost: less than $10!
