    Happy Sunday, Sisters!

Prayers and HUGS for everyone! Wishing everyone a great day~

I received this in an email and thought I would share it with you Wink

Live your life in such a way that when

your feet hit the floor in the morning,

    Satan shudders and says,

    Oh sh!t, she's awake!

I also received this in an email and you know me, I had to go looking for something to back it up. Then I found this site and started looking up phrase origins. Oh well, it was a good way to kill a rainy morning! lol It is alphabetized so you can look up all kinds of useless but interesting info on phrases!

Have a great day! Sister HUGS, Linda

Interesting! The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you
like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some
    facts about the 1500s:

    These are really interesting ...

Most people got married in June because they took their

yearly bath in May, and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.

Hence ... the custom today of carrying a

    bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man

of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then
all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children Last of all the babies. By then the water was so
dirty you could actually lose someone in it.

Hence the saying, 'Don't throw the baby

    out with the bath water.'

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no

wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs)
lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip off the roof.

Hence the saying, 'It's raining cats and dogs.'

There was nothing to stop things from falling down into

the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where
bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed.

Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet then

hung over the top afforded some protection.
That's how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying 'dirt poor.' The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until when you opened the door i t would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entranceway.

Hence the saying, a 'thresh hold.'

(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)

In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did

not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner,
leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then
start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it
that had been there for quite a while.

Hence the rhyme, 'Peas porridge hot,

peas porridge cold, peas porridge in
    the pot nine days old.'

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off.

It was a sign of wealth that a man

could 'bring home the bacon.' They
would cut off a little to share with
guests and would all sit around and
    'chew the fat.'

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with

high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto
the food, causing lead poisoning death.

    This happened most often with

tomatoes, so for the next 400
    years or so, tomatoes were
    considered poisonous.

Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the

burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and
guests got the top, or 'upper crust.'

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometime s knock the imbibers out for a couple of

days. Someone walking along the road would take them
for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out
on the kitchen table for a couple of day s and the family
would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see
    if they would wake up.

Hence the custom of holding a 'wake.'

England is old and small and the local folks started running

out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a 'bone-house' and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found
to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they
had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on
the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell.

Someone would have to sit out in the

graveyard all night (the 'graveyard shift')
to listen for the bell; thus, someone could
be 'Saved by the Bell ' or was considered
    a 'dead ringer.'

    And that's the truth ...

    Now, whoever said that
    History was boring !?!?!

Love all your interesting facts, Linda.  Another fact, many people also got married in July who were farmers. My aunt and uncle got married at that time in between planting and threshing and the same for other couples.

Continued prayers for Jeanne and family.

    Headed to church shortly.

Had dinner with a friend from Stockton and her family.  Such a lovely one too.  She has six children, all boys.   And well behaved also.  She is a friend from the Rose Room.

Never enjoyed my history lesson as much as I did today! Thanks teacher! lol

Hubby is home today, which has made it alot easier! Looking forward to having a better week. Seems like this past week was so rough for many of my new sisters! Still keeping everyone in my prayers. Preventive measure here, I hope!!!!

Some days of the week I especially enjoy more than others. Sunday of course for church and family. Though today I was still feeling poorely so didn't go in the am. Hoping I can this evening.

But one of my favorites is garbage day. I love it when they haul off all the dirty diapers! And in the summer especially. So...when I don't think I have anything else to look forward to, there is always garbage day!

How about you all. What day do you look forward to with a little delight? Looking for that little thing that just brings out your appreciation. Just curious in a weird sort of way. (I told you I was feeling to much pressure on my brain, I've done lost mymind now)lol

    Happy Sunday Sisters....

Boy has it been HOT here...mid to high 90's for the past 5 days!  I worked 3 shift last night (9pm-9am)...when I got out this morning I picked up my DH and we headed off to the blueberry farm again...between the berries I picked yesterday and what the 2 of us picked today, we have 15 pounds.  We brought 5 pounds over to my mothers house and now we need to figure out something to do with the rest!  I guess most of them will be frozen for later baking when things cool off around here...lol.

Linda...What fun information!  Thanks for posting it.

Rebecca Lee...I think the day I look forward to most each week would have to be Fridays...especially if its the end of my work week and I don't have any OT over the weekend.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week...don't work too hard!

A special hello to my 2 secret sisters!

    Hello everyone,

I'm keeping Jeanne in my thoughts and prayers.  Actually it's has been on my mind almost constantly.  I feel so bad for her and Doug.  I was Jeanne''s SS last summer/fall.  She is such a wonderful person.  This past spring I had a message on my answering machine, the woman had such a thick southern accent, I knew it had to be her!!  I have stayed in touch with her and she is just a great person.

Linda, I had recived that e-mail also and it's amazing what we take for granted nowdays!!

KateMarie,  I know what you mean about those weeds.   While we were on vacation, I guess we had alot of rain here, one of my flower beds looked like I had jungle plants!!  The only thing good about those weeds was when I pulled them out, it didn't take long.  They were big but. they also took up alot of space!  Now I have to get at the other flower beds.  They have alot smaller weeds, so it'll take longer.  Look for an envelope in the mail this week Kate, sending you some pictures!

Hope everyone has a great week!

A very gracious Hello to all my Sisters!

Hope you are doing well...My thoughts & prayers are with Jeanne.

I have had a fairly busy weekend.  I got up early yesterday & my friend picked me up.  We went to a 9:00 AM showing of Batman.  It was a really good movie I must say.  It was a long movie but it had so much action that I didn't even realize how long it was until we left.  We then went to Applebees & had some lunch.  Always good!!!  I love their Quesadia(sp?) Burger.  She has been dog sitting her sisters 2 American Bulldogs so we went back there & spent the rest of the afternoon & evening making some jewelry for the Autisim Benefit next weekend.  I think they are doing a silent auction.  We ordered Chinese for dinner which I have a ton of left overs for dinner & work tomorrow.  This morning we met one of our other friends for breakfast which was fabulous.  We hit Joann's Fabric on the way home & picked up few things for beading & came home.  I actually laid down & took a bit of a nap this afternoon which I have not done in a while.  It felt mighty good.

The dogs, Tessie & Drexel are just wonderful dogs.  Drexel is the baby, but he is the biggest.  He is such a little snuggle bunny...He would come & flop his hed on my shoulder & give that big hugh sigh...he is just so sweet.  I had never been around that breed of dog but they seem to be very lovable & protective.

Anyway, I am doing a little more beading.  My other friend is supposed to be calling to go see Sex In The City.  I thought we were going to go this afternoon but it is getting late now.   Maybe we won't make it today, will have to see.

I hope everyone has a great week...I will check in every chance I get.

Hugs to my 2 special sisters!

    Hugs & prayers to all,

    Maggie
