    Re: purse parties

They're knock-offs.  I've been to several (and they are fun!!) and have my share of "fake" purses!  I've never been to one which had jewelry.  Had one myself a couple of years ago - the guy who supplied the purses dropped them off beforehand and I had them for several days.  I had one big party and then if others wanted to look at them but couldn't make the party, they just called and stopped by.  He brought them in two hockey goalie bags - I think there were about 200 or so purses here!  DD was in heaven and came very close to sleeping in the living room in the middle of them that night!  He told us that he went to NYC 2 or 3 times a month with a borrowed SUV and contacted his source there.  The source owned a warehouse and he'd go to the warehouse and fill the back of the SUV and drive back here.  Said once in a while he'd get stopped for speeding and the cop would just take a purse or two for his wife!  He has since stopped supplying the parties and sells the bags, minus the fake logo tag, in a mall store.  His cousin told me that he stopped because the Burberry company contacted him and told him to cease and desist or they'd take him to court.  And let me tell you, after it was over and the purses were gone, DH found out that the whole thing is illegal and about had kittens!

Last summer when DH and I were at a Garage Sale I saw this big group of women almost fighting over purses !!   YUP,  when I got close I knew what was happening.  These people who had the sale had about 200 purses and women were buying 2 and 3.  I didn't but I do own a knock off and it is a Doony bag that I paid $20 for from Mexico.  It was a PERFECT fake !

BIG $$$$$ in this business.  I know I'am not about to pay $400 for a bag ............ I have had my knock off Doony bag now for 3 years and it's still going strong.  It even fooled the sales lady at Macy's in the purse dept.  She was speechless and I just smiled and went on.

thanks.  it didn't seem to matter to the girls at the party what the purses were, just that they looked like the real thing, and were lots cheaper.  thanks for the answers, and don't tell anyone that my bracelet and watch are fakes!!!!!

I am not a purse person but went to one hosted by my neice. The lady with purses was LATE because the boat she was meeting at the port was late. (port of Oakland SF CA)

When she did arrive, she dumped  100's of knock off designer purses on the floor from garbage bags. There was about 15 women at this party, they went crazy for these FAKE purses at $$$$.

I told my daughter I would buy her a purse if it was $40 or less - but there was none to be had at that price. We made a quick exit amongst the fray w/ no purses.

The last time a I went to a party, most of the purses were $35-$45.  Some of the larger ones and the Coach knock-offs were more expensive.

It's mostly word of mouth - someone you know knows someone whose friend had a purse party and can give you the name of the consultant who did it.  There's no info on them such as there is for Tupperware or Longaberger or Silpada because basically they're illegal.  Selling the purses isn't illegal, but putting the Kate Spade, Burberry or Prada labels on them and selling them as the real thing is.

    Re: purse parties

i was in chicago visiting my family when i went to the purse party.  the girls there had been to them before all around the area.  don't know what other states have them.  i live in wisconsin, and no one i talked to here has heard of them. also, i wanted to mention that most of the purses were about 35.00, wallets 20.00.  my sister had been to a purse party with the exact same type of purses, and the lady was charging a lot more for them. so the same thing applies to fakes---you have to know your prices!!!

Yep - there's no one regulating this and no one company providing the merchandise, so either the person who provides the purses or the hostess (in my case, the guy with the purses chose not to be at the party, so I could have changed all of his hang tags and upped my take) can charge whatever they want.

I have never heard of a purse party, sounds like fun though. Hope my dd never gets invited to one. That girl is all about shoes, totebags and purses. Each time she comes home she takes back another car load of stuff with her most of the time it is shoes. I really would like to know how many pairs of shoes that she does have. I just keep finding boxes of them in her room and the top of her closet is full of purses and totebags. I do have a purse that was bought in NY that is very nice.I think it was $30. It looks identical to the real ones I've seen. That's why I have it, some of the knock offs are obvious fakes.

    Re: purse parties

My neighbor had a purse party last year and I was invited.  I found two purses that I liked and when I went to pay for them by check, they said they don't take checks.  My friend tried to tell them that I was good for my check and they still wouldn't take it.  She was livid and I just walked away.  I could have gone home and gotten the money but realized that these people were working "under the table".
