problem with Taste of home search/pages

I cannot figure out what is going on. I search for something like pear jam. It says there are 10 results, but there is no way to access it..no link or list of recipes like the last time I was on the site.  At the bottom it says there is an error on the page.  I was finally able to find it by googling pear recipe an then searching within those results for taste of home.  But, I would really like to be able to search and then explore the recipes.  I haven't been able to do this for 2 weeks at least..  What happened???

Also, one other question.  The site itself has ALWAYS been VERY slow to load for me.  I am on satelitte.  It is just this site.  This morning I accessed 2 different forums including one that I had to sign into during the time it took the home page to load.

Christine, I can't help with all of your question, but I can sympathize with you on your frustration!  I have all kinds of problems in searching the site, too.

I did a search on pear jam and I also found the 10 recipes listed that you mention.  When you search something, it separates the responses into categories - Recipes; Community; Video; Articles; All.

If you want the TOH Recipes, by clicking on the Recipes tab, you would get the 10 recipes for pear jam.  However, if you want the recipes that are discussed in the community forums, you would need to click on the Community tab, which would take you to those, and there are 100 pages listed for those type of discussions.  You click on the links that are greyed out, which is how you access what you are looking for.

I hope that this helps some.  I know that there are MANY out there who are MUCH MORE SKILLED than I am at helping - I just wanted to give you a quick reply until those folks can come on and answer your question in a much better manner! Big Smile

I too am having the exact same problem and it started with me last week. The funny thing is that I had a co-worker access the site from her computer and she didn't have any problem so I thought it might be my log in. But nothing changed when I logged out. I also see error listed on the bottom of the page. I have been a member for a few years and I have never expericed this before. I hope something can be done because now all I can access is my receipe box or a direct link for a receipe, I can't even browse receipes anymore. Anybody else having problems.

    Thanks,

    Tina

There is no tab with recipes, community, etc. There are tabs on the very top, but they are not specific to the search (I tried)   They used to come up like you describe, but now they do not.  I don't know how to fix this and I really need to because I cannot search through my hundreds of magazines. It takes to long and I need pear recipes.

I put "pears" in the search box and got 33 pages of TOH recipes and something like 1000 pages when I clicked on "community" after doing the search.

GRR..So what do I do???  I don't any pages loading just the statement about what it has but no pages and no links.... How do I fix this????  I know that on another board I frequent some people have trouble with things loading and it is a browser problem.  Could that be it and if so, can I temporarily change browsing and if so how do you do that? IE automatically pops up.

I am not sure how to fix it but I have the problem intermittently also.  I am not sure there is a "fix" on our end since I have the problem and then a few minutes later (when I do the same search again) the tabs are there.  I have tried hitting the refresh button with some success.

Sorry I could not be more help.

     Repeating myself and others here....

Many have had a LOT of trouble with this site using IE. Switching browsers to Firefox solved the problem for most. I went through problems using Firefox, having to use IE for Taste of Home, then, in one of the site maintenances, the problem has reversed, and I have a lot of trouble using IE with this site. I prefer to use Firefox, anyway, and use it almost exclusively. Many seem to resent having to add another browser, but both can be on the computer at the same time, and function at the same time with no problem.

This problem may be browser-related. Our tech team would like to know what internet browsers (and what versions) you are using. For example, Firefox version 2.0.0.1

I have dial up connection and I love firefox, I downloaded it and use it all the time as the other Internet explorer is slower and say this page cannot be displayed, no such trouble with firefox. Hope you can get it to work for you. I still have Internet explorer just don't use it much.

    good luck.

Re: problem with Taste of home search/pages

I have a different dillema and after months and months of trying, I've given up. I can search for a recipe, the list of recipes will come up. However, when I click on a recipe I'm told that only subscribers can view recipes. I have been a subscriber for nearly a decade (although when this subscription runs out - that's it). I have signed up for the "subscriber only viewing" as instructed and still can't view recipes. It just isn't worth the hassle anymore...

Did Firefox help, I have the same trouble and customer support isn't much help. But I suppose they are trying, they keep emailing me different things to try.  I am hoping it's the browser.  Would you mind letting me know if it worked, and if it was worth downloading a whole new browser just for one site.

    Thanks,

Hitting the refresh is helping!!!!  This is a copy of what I sent to customer support, if it helps anyone..

    >If this helps....I copied the page I was seeing with results, but no links, etc.  When I pasted it into an email all of the recipes were there.  So, I turned off the popups and the recipes were there, but then they went away when I sorted.  If I hit refresh every time I change screens (sort, for example) the recipes are there.  If that helps..

    thanks for trying<
