    • Thought for the Day- If you would persuade, you must appeal to interest rather than intellect.-Benjamin Franklin

    • Today is National Junk Food Day, but in terms of its observance it doesn't stand out from any other days. We all get hooked by some kind of junk food at some time in our lives. That's hard to avoid: the makers of the stuff know exactly what flavors, colors, and textures address subconscious desires. We're hard-wired to like sweet food, for example. And high-fat foods. It doesn't care what kind of sweet or fat it is. So we get trans-fat emulsified with high-fructose corn syrup. Pure garbage.

    • The worst aspect of junk food is that sometimes we gain an attachment to it, and feel we must be loyal. Indeed, some people will get mad when I say that this applies to doughnuts. Sno-balls. Candy bars. Fried pies (i.e., Hubig's). Most hamburgers and most fries. Rationally, we shouldn't eat any of that stuff. It's not good for your diet and it doesn't even taste good--not as good as food made with good ingredients in careful ways. A little bit of good eats gives a lot more satisfaction than a lot of junk.

    • Well Bob worked by himself again today and also will tomorrow.  Then he is off three days then by himself another 2.  The nurse that works the three days he is off works once and maybe twice by herself.  She has refused to work by herself so how much you want to bet they call him in. He told me tonight if they do he is going to tell them no how, no time, no way!!  It is ridiculous.  If I were administrator and as hard a time as they are having finding a nurse to work, I would bend over backward to keep the ones I have now.  Or at least get the head nurse to come out of her office and help pass out meds.  But no she is too busy doing what I have no idea but she sure doesn’t keep the charts up to date which she is suppose to do.  I can see why nurses burn out so fast!! And the administration staff has a lot to do with it.

Congrats to our celebrants today.  Enjoy doing nothing except what is fun.

I had to pick up storn downed peaches yesterday, and only one was ripe.  In normal circumstances the ones that fall are the best as you know they aren't going to get any riper!

We have had some bad storms.  The good part is that I don't need to water anything!  People lost electricity, trees, and even a huge TV tower.  I was lucky but a block from me a huge tree fell across a street and made TV.  My son stayed home as did others in his office.  He had started out but returned home - the fire dept blocked both ends of his street cuz of downed wires.  They even removed one old lady in a wheelchair to take her to her son's.

Tomorrow I go to the dr who did the work on my spine, but it didn't work so I guess no more  can be done and I will have to live with it.  I spend a lot of time lying on my back as that stops the pain.  I'd much rather be able to bend over without pain and work in the yard but guess I never will be able to.  Nancy B

    • Gasp, push, shove, wade, shovel, climb over, go under....ahhh here I am.  Having a ball with the kids and Trish just called to let me know they are on the road with three more kids and two labrador retrievers to add to the mix....can't get better...or wait maybe it can!!  There is a hurricane bearing down on Texas and my friend and her husband may show up with their cat. :)  Hope they don't have to do so, but will enjoy having them if they do.
    • Can't stay, but did want to wish two of my favorite people a happy day.  Hope both of you (and Rich of course) have wonderful fun filled days with a whole lotta spoiling !
    • Off to start some more banana bread then back to the store again for a couple of things we didn't get yesterday.
    • Hugs and prayers for each of you, because YOU are loved.

Titty Fruit – Apple of Sodom – Solanum Mammosum

This unusual plant has a fruit that upon first glance looks like a balloon inflated to appear like the udder of a cow. It is actually an ornamental fruit that has medicinal properties as well as detergent agents that can be used for washing clothes.

The Cows Udder or Nipple Fruit, is a shrubby perennial that can also be grown as an annual. It is related to the tomato, hardy to around 25 degrees F, and is not too picky about soil requirements. The negative to its uniqueness and beauty it that the fruit is poisonous.

About 30 minutes left of solitude before the 3 & 6 y/o grand-kids awaken and the 14, 15 and 16 y/o grand-kids arrive. Had best get dressed and get outside chores finished before things start "hopping".

Top of the morning and thank you for the great wishes already.

NANCY Z~~Happiest of Birthdays to you friend. I do know how involved you and your DD get with the VBS. That is a wonderful thing to be "busy" with. Bless you both. Enjoy your day.

DH just slipped out to check on garden damage as we have Super Deer that seems to be able to jump multiple layers of fencing 8 ft. high. This is the same one that lays under our apple trees in the heat of the day to wait for the apples to get ripe. Ha

Nature can be unkind at times and yesterday our turkeys came under attack from a gi-normous hawk. It was after baby turkeys. Rich was out picking mulberries and saw the whole thing. Then at 2 AM he heard a bunny crying. (They sound like babies crying). He got up to check but saw nothing so we are only guessing that "something" got one of the bunnies in our yard.

I guess when you enjoy the good sides of nature you have to deal with it all.

Gotta run, my hero is taking me out for my favorite breakfast before I go to work.

BTW: 'Nurse Ratchet' is in big trouble. I don't think it was so much that she went off on me but she did so in front of patients and doctors. Director of nursing told me yesterday that "It WILL be her last warning"

Have an awsome day, everyone. Hugs and prayers continue for you.

    Tippy

Punchinello laughed, "Me, special? Why? I can't walk fast. I can't jump, My paint is peeling, Why do I matter to you?"

Eli...spoke very slowly, "Because you're mine, That's why you matter to me."

    Good morning,

Happy Anniversary, Tippy and Rich. Have a wonderful day with all kinds of fun, love, laughter and memorie.

Happy Birthday, Nancy Z. Wishing you a fun-filled day of celebrations and lots of birthday cake.

Zora, thank you. That's so sweet. I love all of you, also. Cody and Fenway are sending lots of doggie kisses to Emily and Shorty.

No junk food for me. I'm not that crazy about chips, chocolate bars etc, and we only have two junk food restaurants here - Pizza Hut that I don't care for, and McDonald's, but the whole world would have to run out of ALL food before I'd eat McD's. My major problem is Peps, but I'm working on  that one.

Nancy B, I'm so sorry that the expensive procedure didn't work. Perhaps your doctor can come up with something to ease the pain in your back. Hugs. Do peaches ripen once they're off the tree?

Rosie, sounds like all the activity is taking place at your house! Oh, wow! Hope that hurricane eases off before getting anywhere near Texas or anywhere else for that matter.

I have never heard of that plant, Beverly. That's interesting. Does is grow in the USA? Will have to check that out. Nope it grows in the dessert areas in the middle east.

BTW, for those of you who use Firefox - have you ever heard of Hyperwords? It's a reference add-on to Firefox. You highlight the words you want to know more about, a drop down menu pops up and you can chose what you want: definition, pronounciation, references, articles about the subject, etc. It's the greatest program ever. I believe they're working on a new edition that you will be able to use in email and on any document on your computer. I don't think I could surf the net anymore without Hyperwords - it's that good. If you come across anything you want to know anything about Hyperwords is for you. And that, ladies and gentlemen, ends the advertising portion of this post. LOL!

Tippy, hasn't "Nurse Ratchet" had warnings before? Isn't it time they tossed her? What an attitude. Have a terrific breakfast.

I'm off to get some blood work done. This fasting for 14 hours is for the birds. I'm hungry, thirsty and cranky!

    Have a wonderful day, everyone,

    Grace

Thanks for the birthday wishes, CS.

ZORA, I don't have a big attachment to junk food, but the junk food has an attachment to me. It attaches to my hips, my thighs, my derriere, etc, etc.

MARGARET E is out sunning in the garden, today.

NANCY B, sorry the back is still a problem. Getting "mature" is not for sissies.

Saying HI to ROSIE who is busy amongst her throng.

BEVERLY, I know you will be hopping with that group to keep you busy.

TIPPY, I am in the city and we hear some of those sounds. We even hear a coyote, once in a while. Maybe Nurse Ratchet will get the axe one of these days. Or she needs anger management classes.

GRACE, hope by now you fed your hunger, quenched your thirst and got un-cranked!

No cooking for me, today. Lunch and dinner, out. Yippee!

    Nancy Z.

Good afternoon from Indiana, it's 80 out there so not too bad.  We had storms go through late last night, leaves down but no damage, lots of lightning & thunder, woke me up.

DH just brought in a load of cucumbers & he's out there picking green beans.  I'll fix the cukes for our dinner tonight, he'll be happy.  Will wait till later on in the week to fix the beans.

Talked to both girls today, all is well in their world.  DD #1 feeling better today, just a little queasy, able to take care of the kids.

Happy Anniversary Tippy & Rich...........hope you have a fun filled day.

Happy Birthday to Nancy Z..........do something fun today, hope you have a great one.
