REC & REV: Ding Dong Cake

I made this last night and had it in the fridge all night and this morning when I tried a small piece it was delicious. The cake is so moist! It is very easy to make and other than the eggs, water and oil that go in the cake mix, it is a three ingredient cake! Thanks April, this is a keeper in my house! If you like Hostess Ding Dong's you will love this!

    1 box chocolate cake mix
1 can sweetened condensed (Eagle brand) milk
1 small tub (8 oz) Cool Whip

Prepare and bake chocolate cake as directed on package directions. Remove cake from oven and immediately poke holes all over the cake with a fork and then pour the condensed milk all over the top. Let cool completely. Top with Cool Whip, cover and chill overnight! (You can eat it right away if you can’t wait, but the flavor is MUCH better the second day.)

This cake in another version - a Twinkie cake - made with a yellow cake - is unbelieveably good - and you're right - incredibly easy.   If you are hosting a large group - make one of each - they won't last long.   They really are best made a few hours early so they can chill and you store them (if you have any left) in the refrigerator.   They also freeze beautifully!

OMG, you guys are killin' me!

I loved Ding Dongs as a child.

I am going to snarf up this cake!

All I need is a big gathering as an excuse to make it.....

I made this cake (the twinkie version) for my daughter right after she had the baby this spring - her appetite had been so poor during her pregnancy and she was getting it back - she loved this cake and my sil said that it was so good and sweet that it made his "teeth hurt".

This sounds really good.  Do you think you can use the fat free sweetened condensed milk?  I've had a can on my shelf for a while, and I never heard from anyone if it tastes good or works well in recipes.

Thanks for posting this.  I know DH will eat this up!!!

I think some may have used that.   I don't use any fat free products in anything I bake - but in things you don't - it should work.   Don't they have a "lo fat" condensed milk?  I think I've used that, and it was fine.
