    Healthy Choices 7/23/08

    Good morning everyone,

Getting an early start today and leaving for Amish country for the day.  It should be a comfortable day with temps in the 70s and the chance of a scattered shower.  A nice day for a long drive and some shopping and, of course stopping to eat.

    Yesterday's food journal:

B - fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries) ff yogurt

L- Marti's Salmon chowder with crackers

D - Turkey bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwhiches on WW toasted bagle, broccoli, cantalope

    S - 1 Chinese cookie with tea

Had lots of water, cranberry juice and tea

I hope you're feeling better today, Shirley.

Lusi, so glad Leo is safely on his way home.  I'll bet he does notice the new window treatments and the cushion covers, maybe not the clean windows, though.  I think tonight before I make the tea, I'll sing to the water and tell DH his tea has been made with stimulated water and see if he feels the effects.  LOL     animated music notes That's really a new one I've never heard of before.

JoLynn, keeping your Mom in my prayers.  Hope the heart specialist visit goes well.

Marti, I wish you could join us on our trip, too.  PA in October should be just beautiful with all of the fall colors. I'm glad you're still going and hope Joe will be just fine by then.

Maureen, sorry to hear about what a creep DD's x is being.  He's really showing his true colors, now isn't he.  I hope the court system works for her and he gets exactly what he deserves in the end.  Give Kim our best and tell her we're all keeping her  and Ava in our prayers.

Sue, it sounds like your exterminator did a good job in finding the nests.  Hopefully, that will be the end of it, once DH cuts back those tree branches.  Thanks for the information on freezing cake.

Hope everyone has a nice day, today.  God bless. Jo Ann

I copied Maureen's post in here.   She was posting at the sametime as JoAnn.

Good Morning!   I have no idea why I'm up this early, but got up shortly after 6.   Even got to see DH off to work.   So I'm getting ready to take an early walk - love taking it when it's so cool out.

Have a yearly physical today and don't know what else I'm doing after that.    There's plenty to do, I just need to pick something.

Oh, Viny, I do have a cuke that's almost ready to pick.   That was a surprise to see peeking out from under the leaves.   The yellow zucchini is coming fast and furious.

    Have a good day, everyone.

HI .   You can check out that water site at www.H2Omwater.com.   It's good entertainment.

It is actually really warm here today.   I worked up a sweat on my bike today just doing errands.   Car is still being repaired.  I don't even miss it!

I attacked my music cupboard today.  For years I have been saying that I am going to organize it.   At least that is what I say every time I need to find something and dig through it all.   So now I have it all categorized in plastic storage containers and labelled.   I put it in the attic, because it is easier to access there than in the place where I had it.  And now I have an empty cupboard to fill up with something else.   We needed a bit more space for stuff anyway.   In the middle of this project, I started a bit in the attic.   Oh my, that is a real project.   I threw out 2 huge bags of junk today.   I am going to make a promise to myself to work at it little by litte so that I go through one section of it a time.   Need to lighten up our load.

Trying to eat well, but still need more discipline!!!!!   lusi

Good Morning Jo Ann, Maureen & Lusi,  all of you are up ready for a busy day, sure would like to be going with Jo Ann, I know she will enjoy shopping and eating in Amish country.
Maureen, too much on your mind to sleep.  I hope things begin to settle down for Kim, I remember Randy's attorney telling him these things can drag on for years when one partner is such a jerk.  Kim needs to push for some closure so she can get on with her life and get Ava out of this.  I know you enjoyed your early morning walk and good luck with your physical today.
Lusi, thinking about all you've done and I just know Leo will notice how busy you have been.  You have had a busy summer and look what you have accomplished.  When does school start there. Some states in the south start the 31st of July and others will follow in a couple weeks,

    B. SBB cereal, 8 oz milk nectarine
    L. club cracker/cheese. peach
    S. 5 oz steak, seasoned rice,(1/2 cup) large green salad with cheese & egg ( I took tomatos, cucumber and onion and added to mine and also took my ff dressing-I chose to go out rather than the salad supper my SS class had, now I have a huge peach salad to get rid of. lol
Water, watermelon, and another peach.   Verna, did I do better?

Just a quick note this morning.

Laughed about the water stimulated with music.  I can add to that one.

This morning there is a picture in the paper of a new pedicure proceedure.  People soak their feet in water with small fish, carp I think.  Apparently, the carp eat at the cuticle around the toes. I was kind of grossed out  by it so didn't read the whole article.

I got my hair cut off yesterday.  I just couldn't stand one more day with that long stringy stuff.  Now I look like a 20s Flapper....or the dutch boy on the paint can.  Surprise

Busy- Busy here for my Sis and I.  I took  a picture while we were out and about yesterday that I will send you all.

The county fair starts today so we'll probably go there but may wait until tomorrow which is Seniors day.

Shirley, glad to see your post.  I just skimmed them the last couple days.

Maureen, I know you are worried about Kim.  Hang in there.  This thing has drug out long enough.  I'm glad she has you and ***.

I'll see you when I can.

Good morning everyone.  Running a bit late getting here today.

Marti...that's better...but no cigar!  You did get protein at all three meals...albeit skimpy at noon!  Good for you.  Tell us about this peach salad?  Sounds good.  I make a gelatin salad with peach jello and some spices etc and it tastes like pickled peaches....yum!

I didn't do too bad yesterday...not as bad as I could have...

B..4 mini muffins, 1 pkg lite string cheese

L..butterflied shrimp and cajun fries from Popeye's, biscuit, diet Dr Pepper

D..hamburger steak with grilled onions. steamed zucchini, large salad with tomato, cucumber, onion and radishes with "real" dressing

    Notice...no gingersnaps!  They're all gone!!

So far, so good today...but the day is young.  Just now finished my coffee...I didn't want it earlier.

The washer repair man was just here to replace the broken struts/shock absorber.  The washer is much quiter now and doesn't "walk" around.  Waiting for the carpet guy to come tack it down at the patio door and then the painter should be by sometime this afternoon to prime the wood trim.  Dang...I'll be glad when I don't have to stay home and wait for these guys!  Tomorrow I'm taking a friend for a colonoscopy and will try to get my lab work done on the way home.  Friday is MY day...by golly...I'm not waiting for anyone!

Where's our viny today?  His garden sounds sooo good....love those fresh veggies.  Viny, I'm making the jalapeño veggie corn muffins today.  Love them...and will put in the freezer for continued use.

Jo Ann and Marti...I've never been to the Amish country.  I'm envious!  I'd love to do that.  Maybe someday....

Jo Lynn, hope your mom is doing well.  Keep us posted.  By the way, that baby (NOT) is just precious!  I can't wait to see the little girls Sunday.  I've been toying with the idea of taking lunch so we won't have to go out....but what a pain that would be.  I guess we could just have sandwiches but that's so boring!  Out to lunch it will be!

OK...got to get busy and make a few more phone calls.  Maureen, I didn't sleep well either...maybe I was worrying with you.  Or worrying on my own...DD and DGD had it out on the phone Sunday and both are ticked with each other.  Personally I'm on DGGD's side but can't say that out loud.  My DD has an alcohol problem...please keep her in your prayers.  Also please pray for my friend Donna's DIL...she had lung and liver cancer three years ago and has been in remission since completing chemo and radiation...now she has some new masses in her lungs...biopsy results are pending.

    I'll check in later.

Good morning everyone running late on everything this morning woke up with a bad headache so stupid me took Tylenol PM and went to work. Around 6 o’clock I was falling asleep at my desk so I went for a 2 mile walk just to stay awake. LOL

Sue had a good laugh about the weed killer years ago I thought it would work really well to spray along my chain link fence to keep the weeds down. Well needless to say it killed the weeds and also the grass on both sides of the fence neighbor lady was not too impressed. LOL

Walked 3.2 miles a little short but had to get oil changed in the truck.

B: Toasted onion bagel with LF peanut butter, ¼-cup almonds, coffee mocha.

    S: 1oz. cheese, grapes.

L: 1- jerky stick, 25 cheese it crackers.

S: Banana, chocolate cup cake (GD made this so could not turn it down).

D: Left over breaded pork chop, Roasted beets, Roasted Sweet potatoes, and garden salad with Catalina dressing, 8oz. skim milk.

S:  1-slice banana bread (DW finally realized that I am trying to loose weight) 6oz. skim milk.

Water throughout the day with lemon flavoring.

Have a nice day and God bless everyone prayers going out to all.

    Re: Healthy Choices 7/23/08

Hi - I am running late today, also. And, I didn’t sleep very well last night either - I think I was worrying right along with Maureen & Verna.

Maureen, since you were mixed up on today’s date, I hope you aren’t mixed up on the date of your doctor’s appointment.

I’m sure JoAnn & Frank are off having a good time and eating some wonderful food.

Barb, thank you for taking time out from your busy week to check in. When do the rest of the relatives come?

Shirley, your dinner last night looked really good. I hope you were able to enjoy it.

Verna, I hope you will be able to take Friday off from waiting for repair people to show up.

Viny, don’t you just love the roasted beets? I’m so glad lusi told us how to do that. I had to LOL about the Tylenol PM story; I did the same thing one time - only I took it at lunch.

lusi, I’m sure it won’t take you long to fill up that empty cupboard. It seems those things have a way of filling themselves up.

Marti, you are doing better about getting some protein in. I know it is a struggle for you.

I just realized something - I have a lot of nerve commenting on the rest of your menus (journals), when I’m not posting my own. I hope I don’t offend anyone. When I start putting my journal on here (probably next week or the week after), please feel free to make comments about mine.

    Until later...

    JoLynn

I feel so good that I passed my nurse this morning that I will work very hard to get that protein eaten today,  That is the very hardest thing for me to do, I see that Joe gets it, I just don't care for meat
I forgot to tell you that I walked 5.76 miles yestersday so I'm making more than the 10000 steps each day, the scales may not move but my clothes feel better.

    Re: Healthy Choices 7/23/08

Ok, finally back. Had to laugh at Barb – I was going to be funny one day and call him Dique – that’s what I saw someone write on some other post (at least I think that’s how they spelled it) Big SmileVerna, I wondered about those gingersnaps – they seemed (seem) to be a favorite. Whether to pack lunch or not – we often think we’re so smart on a long drive and pack – invariably we see places we would love to try. But it is handy if you know you won’t be anywhere close to buy food. If you know there will be food on the way, then I’d go for it too since it’s probably some place new. As I was sitting in the room waiting on the doc, I got to figure out all my worries. He apologized for being late and I told him “no problem, I figured out some problems”. That gave him a chuckle. I got Kim some pretty red daisy type plant at the store, thought she might need some cheering up. Viny, you counted out the cheese-it crackers – hmmmmmmmWink    OMG, Shirley wanted to make the week go by faster too – LOL!!! I keep telling DH that we need to post a new picture of Ava, in fact, she just went to kiddy kandids. Jolynn, I would have been upset if I goofed on the doctor appt. I’m like Barb, it’s hard enough to pick up the phone and make the appt, let alone go to it. They had a recipe for marinated roasted beets in our food section today – I have to study it, was in too big of a hurry earlier. Your little DGS is adorable, what a handsome guy.  Marti, I need to start aiming for an hr walk, I need it to help lower my cholesterol. I don’t get along with meat so good either. Every now and then I taste a chicken breast or good steak that has me wanting more, but usually I would rather eat all the sides. Listen to what Roger says about ending all this – “all he wants is peace and for Kim to agree to his terms”. Then he wrote an email that is so offensive with name calling, etc. He has to be a very angry man and very scary. Jo Ann – tell us what DH says about his tea – that would be a good one. Thanks for the prayers for Kim – I am beginning to get worried, as if I wasn’t before. Lusi, I need to take whatever it is you’re on so I can begin deep cleaning. Just as long as I don’t have to teach.

The doctor visit was interesting – no blood tests for 3 months – he wants me try the fish oil and Omega -3 and see where my cholesterol is. He’s more worried about the tryglicerides than anything else. Zocor is good at getting the LDL down as well as the tryglic… I don’t think I told you, but I tried what he prescribed and on the 4th day, I became dizzy – not spinning dizzy, but to look down or up, I was way out of balance. Straight ahead was somewhat ok but still affected. And I wasn’t dehydrated. I have tried Cholestoff and Bios-Life, both with some problem. He says I could try that red yeast too and I asked him what he would do – he answered so quickly: the statin. Also he notices a heart murmur, but he said 50% of the people have one. My Mom had one and it never really bothered her. It will be watched. It’s just like Barb says, you hate going because you know something will be wrong. BP was a little high, but I told him it’s fine when I check it at home – he wasn’t worried about that. I agreed to a tetanus shot, but as I got in my car, I realized someone goofed. I totally forgot too. It’s hot out there – hmmmm, only 93, but it feels miserable. I think I’ve run out of space but hope to come back later to give you my menu from yesterday.
