    Smaller Pie Tin

I am looking for a small pie tin (or glass).  When you are just two people, it gets difficult to eat the whole pie.

    Thanks.

I personally haven't seen any smaller than usual pie pans...could you make the tart size and/or individual turnovers & freeze the extras?  There probably are smaller pans...check w/a special kitchen ware place...maybe William Sonoma?  Or, look for a commercial suppliers - they usually have a huge selection of items generally not seen in more 'regular' stores.

I did a Google search for small pie pans and found several possibilites.  I also wanted a smaller size for 2 people.   I don't remember where I ordered them from but I have a couple of 6" ceramic pie plates.  I haven't used them yet but they do seem to be a good size for 2 people.    They are available but will cost a little more than the normal Pyrex dish.

You could check the country store on this site.  I know that we get cooking for 2 magazine, and they put sources in for smaller sized bakeware, but I don't recall seeing pie tins....

You could just skip the pie pan altogether.  Make a rustic tart--they're getting very popular.  Place your round of dough on a cookie sheet, mound your filling in the center, then fold the edges of the crust over the edge of the filling, leaving the center showing, if you like, pleating as you go.  You can make them whatever size you like--standard, small, or individual.

    Re: Smaller Pie Tin

A couple of years ago I bought 6" pie tins at a cooking store. It seems to me they had all different sizes. They are aluminum and just the perfect size for "half" a pie. When our apples are ripe I bake pies for people, and some of my elderly friends loved pie, but were intimidated by a whole pie. We are too, just being 2 people, it is hard to eat a whole pie without it getting soggy. The smaller size works perfectly.

Check with your WalMarts. I purchased several of the 6 inch as well as the 4 inch . They also had an assortment of tart shells on the same display. Our store had them hanging on one of the sides of a end cap rather than having them with the other pans.

They are the coated pans and are really great to use. Nothing sticks in them, even fruit pies.

Blessed are those that can give without remembering and take without forgetting.
