    Chocolate Almond Surprise

    CHOCOLATE ALMOND SURPRISE

    Makes:   18

    Source:   LaDonna

    Effort:  Easy

Comments:   I can’t take the credit for the idea.  We were watching  “Dinner Impossible” the other night on the Food Network Channel.  Michael Simon, the chef, had to cook a meal for people working in a carnival using only carnival food.  One of the idea’s we heard him talking about was using bacon, chocolate and chopped almonds.  So I decided to play around and see what I could come up with.  As weird as it sounds, this is very good.  Your guest will be wondering, what the “surprise” is.

    INGREDIENTS:

1 pkg. (24 oz.) (18 slices) THICK cut bacon

2 (7 oz.) tubs of Bakers Dipping Chocolate (real milk chocolate)

1 (16 oz.) can roasted, salted almonds, finely chopped.

    INSTRUCTIONS:

Bake bacon in oven until crisp.  I like to put a layer of aluminum foil down on a sheet cake pan, spray with non stick cooking spray and lay out bacon.  I like to get my heat up to about 425.  Turn every 8 minutes until done.  Then lay out on paper towel to drain and cool.

When cool, melt chocolate.  Pour the chocolate in a plate.  Gently cover a piece of the bacon with the melted chocolate.  Then gently cover the chocolate with the finely chopped almonds (I put the almonds on wax paper).  Then put, single layer, on parchment paper that is on a cookie sheet.  Repeat until each piece of bacon is covered.  Put parchment paper in between layers.

    Cover and refrigerate.

When chilled through, put in ziplock bag and store in the fridge.

    Enjoy.

Personal Comment:  I cooked my bacon out on the grill as I didn’t want to start the oven.  Just take some heavy duty aluminum foil and fold over.  The kinda roll up the edges.  Spray with non-stick cooking spray.  Place on grill and have on low heat.  Cook until bacon is crisp, turning every 8 minutes.

Personal Comment:  This has to be THICK cut bacon.

I'll give it a try. I love sweet and salty foods so why not bacon and chocolate.

Our daughter, when we asked if she'd like to try it, she's not to sure.  And we both told her that it's sweet and salty.  She said she might try it.  We'll see if we can get her husband and our granddaughters to try it.

It's fun to fix unusual things.

I agree with you about trying unusual foods being fun. I've made chocolate covered garlic and that was fun and good. Very surprising in taste. I think I posted a review of it.
